Andy,

Never got your "example". It's O.K., I'll contact R.T. Systems...again.

Hmm, my example was embedded into my email and was not an attachment.? If you want, I can try to send it as an attachment?

"A blinking number indicates an empty bank that cannot be selected."

RT systems is saying that no memories have been assigned to that bank.??

?ALL MY BANKS BLINK! So I can't use any of them? I just did a factory reset!

To a point this is correct. You cannot use any of the?banks because you have not initialized any of them. You have to assign one or more memories to a bank for that bank to be selectable (you are saying "use" while RT says "select").? Performing a factory reset clears the contents of all banks.? Therefore, you cannot select any bank until you assign memory(ies) to it.? Actually not being able to select an empty bank is a good thing because, as RT Systems states? "The radio will now operate as if it is programmed with only the channels in that memory bank":?if the radio allowed you to select an empty bank, the radio would not operate.? The radio would operate as if it is programmed with nothing.

How can they be unusable if I just did a factory reset? How can a bank be "empty" and be unusable??

This is a poor analogy but it is the best I can come up with at the moment.? If somebody gives you driving instructions on a sheet of paper but the paper is blank, the instructions are "unuseable".? An empty bank is a blank sheet of instructions. ?

I am guessing, perhaps incorrectly, that you still are thinking you place frequencies and other settings into a bank.??

You assign memories (or channels as RT Systems calls them) into a bank.? Each memory can be placed in zero, one or more banks.? Each memory location can contain the frequency and settings for only transmit and one receive frequency.? On the other hand, a bank can have multiple memories assigned to it. A bank can access dozens of frequency settings if you want. An empty bank is "unusable" by the FT60 because you haven't initialized?it.?

Something else to understand. If you have a memory assigned to a bank(s), if you change the settings in that memory location, you do NOT need to change anything in the banks.? Let me try an example.??

Let's say you set memory 150 as a simplex frequency and you assign memory 150 to both bank 5 and bank 10.? When you select bank?5 or bank 10, you can access the settings in memory 150.? When you select any other bank you cannot see nor access memory location 150.? Turn the selector knob with bank 4 selected, for example, you will never see memory 150.? Turn the knob when bank 5 is selected and you will see memory 150.?

You then realize you should have set that up as a repeater frequency. All you need to do is to modify the contents of memory 150.? Bank 5 and bank 10 now each operate that frequency as a repeater frequency.? Why? Because the repeater settings are not stored in bank 5 or bank 10 but in memory location 150. Just like before you updated memory 150, bank 5 and bank 10 allow you to access memory 150

I hope this helps

Please let me know if you want me to send the previous example as an attachment.
