Welcome to the group and to amateur radio. I’ve been a new ham since 1990 and love my FT60R. I can’t improve on the advice you’ve gotten here.
Since you saved some $$ buying the FT60R used, you might be in a better position to buy a new FNB-83 battery, if charging isn’t the solution to your woes.
A spare was worth the price to me at the same time I bought my radio new. I rotate them so neither one just sits, ageing on the shelf.
