Re: newbie query.........what and why for all the features?

Jardy, you’re quite right. I don’t “need” to put memories into banks (and initially I didn’t), but it makes it convenient to scan only certain frequencies on one occasion (a charitable event using just a few frequencies, somewhat far from my home QTH) and a different list of my local machines most of the time. The manual makes the case for using banks in other ways. The feature is there for those who decide to use it.

I don’t “need” the alphanumeric labeling of memories but it will help me learn my local repeater “landscape,” something I haven’t done enough of yet.

The Set menu tailors many of the radio’s features to suit the user. They certainly can be changed often, but they probably don't “need” to be.

A fun thing about technology is the endless race between capabilities and imagination. The FT-60R is a good example, and it tests my ability to remember a large amount of stuff without going back to some form of instructions.

Remember, nobody says that you have to use ALL the bells and whistles. For example, I have no reason to use the Banks feature. As such, on the FT-60, all the basic features can easily be entered by the keyboard without going into the SET menu. The FT-60 is truly the easiest ht to manually program. Clint”s. Cheat sheet is a marvelous aid in using the basics.?
