I do the same. I lost the retention?ring within a year of buying the radio. I tried two different attach?points for the ring before it disappeared: the base of the antenna and one of the rotary controls. Neither was ideal or permanent. For durability, I use rubber bands from vegetables, such as broccoli. They're tougher than the office product variety.
