Electronic locator transmitters. ?Found on aircraft that send out a beacon when activated by crashes or hard landings. Same as EPIRBS (water) and MLBs. (Mountain locator beacons). All use the same frequencies. SAR is Search and Rescue.?

I use my FT-60 to track down ELTs on 121.5. Even tho the 406 system has come into use, they still use 121.5 on low power for homing in. I am part of Silver Star SAR in Washington State, and we get call on fairly often to track these for WADOT, Aviation Division, who is in charge of these for the state. Last count, we were up to 63 finds.?

The FT-60 is a great radio and the easiest radio in the world to manually program.?

Hi Chris!

It sounds to me like you've already?made up your mind, and that's a good thing!

Do you need another radio? Only you can answer that.
Is the FT-60 a "must-buy" radio? Are any, really?

I have several HT's and love my FT-60 primarily because it is sturdy and reliable. I only use about 50 memories. I don't know anything about its sensitivity or IMD rejection. It just works for what I use it for - listening to Air comms at the local airport and checking into local repeaters.?

i may kick over a hornets net here but for day-to-day i reach for the FT-70 - that's only?because there are several System Fusion repeaters that I use.

If you are a "collector" then you probably should get this radio. If it is discontinued then I suspect you won't find a better price on new ones.

Good luck with your decision!

People are calling it a modern classic, a commercial radio in the
amateur market, etc. etc. "They won't make one like this in a long
time", is typical of what I hear about the FT-60R.

Asuming I can find a new one somewhere, why should I pick it up?? Is
the receiver that much better, the case that much tougher, etc.?

Yes, I'm inviting you to help me spend money on another radio, which,
let's face it, is a fun part of this hobby. :)

If it does better on weak signals than my Kenwood TH-D74A, or rejects
intermod on 2 meters better than my Yaesu FT-70, I'll gladly pick one up.

thanks and 73's,

Chris
