It happened that the difference in voices of the different dispatchers. We had to install a switch to select different audio input levels for everyone to be heard on the air. Just labeled it 'Men' or 'Women'.
I believe that as?scientists and engineers, the solution should address the concern. The concern is low audio input. That could be caused by a number of things, among them being the tone for the person's voice. Soft?intonation occurs in both genders and at different ages or may be the result of a temporary condition, such as an illness or injury.
I suggest a more appropriate label that reflects the solution addressing the concern might simply be "Audio Level"?above the switch and "normal" and "enhanced" below. Or if you want to inject some humor "Decaf" and "Caf" or (this only relates to a certain age group) "Regular" and "Ethyl".
