On the speaker issue; a friend had that problem after mishap. Further inside examination revealed the speaker jack was not making good contact therefore the speaker did not speak. Once he adjusted the contacts his problem was solved.

After further experimentation, I have found that at full squelch the noise does go away on those high 70cm band freqs.? So I have concluded that there is a problem with the squelch; I have to have the squelch turned up almost to the max to get above the noise threshold on some frequencies as I have said.? This could be a propagation phenomenon or some other issue with the RF environment in my area (Tucson, AZ), but just in case, I am sending the unit to Yaesu for a look and warranty repair.? I had a problem with the front speaker being intermittent anyway.

Yes it is new and occurs wherever ?I go and is independent of antenna.

My FT-60r has constant noise on the high end of 70cm band? Squelch doesn't remove it
