FT101EE Mystery cut wire 3
Inspecting my 101EE, I discovered a wire that apparently at some point got snipped. I cannot see anything that looks like where it was originally supposed to go. It's located under the PB-1092 "TRIMMER B BOARD", and the remnant wire is connected to ground. On another note, while looking at PB-1092, I see that there is no associated C107 that the schematic shows parallel with TC9. All the other trimmers on PB1092 have their respective fixed value cap. TC9 is associated with trimming the 15m band. Any idea what may be going on here? Thanks...! Mike KD7VRG

FT-101EE voltage measurements 7
Hello group, I have an FT-101EE and am wanting to measure the various voltages off the main transformer. What type of voltmeter is needed as far as ohms/volt is concerned? I own several. VTVMs, modern DVMs, Simpson 260 etc. Which is needed to get the most accurate reading? I see no annotation on the schematic Thanks Mike

FT-101Z Tuning Issue 6
Hi All, Having trouble with my FT-101Z. It has been on storage for about two years and was working before this. I have forgotten a lot about using it. During the Final Tuning procedure, the PO meter stays at 0 and does not move. The earlier tuning step, the IC meter behaves as expected. Any ideas? Thanks!

FT-101ZD changing the 2.3KHz SSB filter for a 2.7KHz filter?
Would changing the SSB filter to a 2.7KHz filter improve RX audio quality on SSB / AM? Sadly the 101ZD has no switchable filter for AM / SSB and I've got a spare 2.7KHz Yaesu filter 'flying' around. I heard that 2.3.KHz on TX SSB is preferable to 2.7KHz? Thanks for the input

Undoing AM modification to restore CW operation
I am trying to un-modify an FT-101 EE to restore CW operation in a radio that has an AM filter and the mode switch modification installed. Everything seems to be OK from the pictures and directions in the service manual as far as restoring CW operation. I can do everything as far as reconnecting wires and diode except the yellow wire that goes to the heater switch from pin 4 in the AM modification. Does any one have a clue where that wire came from originally and what I should do with it? Does it just hang in the air or did it actually have a connection on the other end from the heater switch? Location of FH2 Ft101ZD MK3 9
I bought this rig at a hamfest and the seller was less than honest, imagine that... Anyway, it loads up good but no receive, checking out what others suggest. Specifically where is the Lamp that is designated as FH2? Can someone describe accurately exactly where this lamp is located, or provide a picture? Please, this is the only thing I'm asking, I'm not looking for any other information, I've read all the online suggestions that I have found so far. All I want to know is where is this Lamp?

FT-101E Signal Generator is off frequency 7
Hi, I'm new to FT-101 world but am really enjoying it. I recently got an FT-101E and have done a lot of work getting it to work properly. I've recapped the entire thing, performed the clarifier and tx/rx adjustment procedures, cleaned all of the internal contacts, etc. It transmits and receives great and sounds good, so in terms of working properly, all seems to be well. I do have a couple of minor things that I'm wondering about though. First thing: part of the tx/rx alignment procedure is to make the voltage match between RX and TX (using Mox) with the Zero Set pot on the high voltage board. When I read the voltages during receive and transmit, they're so far apart that the pot doesn't have enough adjustment to make them match. I have checked TX on a separate radio, and it seems to be aligned with RX fine. I've also made numerous stateside and DX contacts and haven't had any trouble there. Is this a problem? If it is, what can be done to correct it? Second, and more importantly: when I zero beat using the 25KHz or 100KHz signal generator, the frequency that I've corrected to is about 1.4KHz down from the actual frequency. By that I mean: if I zero beat at 14.300MHz using the 100KHz signal generator, I'm actually at 14.2986MHz. The 25KHz and 100KHz generators seem to be off by slightly different amounts too. I have a YC-601 frequency counter so I can account for the discrepancy by calibrating the meter/dial down 1.4KHz to match the actual frequency, but I'm wondering if there's a way to adjust the signal generator to be dead on. I haven't found any YouTube videos explaining this, and I don't see anything referencing it in the service manual. This isn't too big of a hindrance since I know what's going on, but it would be nice to have it "right." My assumption is that something has drifted due to age and it's something that I'll just have to get used to. Thanks in advance. Scott

Possibility of Adding AM to an FT-101ZD MK0
Is it feasible to add AM capability to a MK0? Does anyone have experience with this? Thank you. 73, Michael Smith, N4KZO

No output FT-101E
Dear Mick I'm not sure that I understood the complete problem, but if as you say " ALC/Power/IP still show the same readings if its putting power out or not ", I believe or think that is a relay problem. The relay in the tube cage commute between Tx and Rx mode. I guess to see FT-101e schematic to take a overview it?s a good idea. good luck Emerson, PP6EW Em qui., 16 de jun. de 2022 às 14:31, mick smith <michael.newbury@...> escreveu:

FT-101 No Power Output- RL1?
Hi all, I Have a FT-101B that no longer produces output power. RX was and still is very good and stable It was producing solid power on all bands until a few weeks ago when it went to the bench for alignment and cold neutralization. While on the bench it seemed prudent to remove boards, clean edge connectors and sockets I also changed electros on regulator board and a few others. I started getting a click sound which turned out to be arcing from a loose wire to one of the filter cap terminals. This took over a week to find but quick solder reflow fixed it. After which I could dial up 60 mA bias current but there was no output in tune/CW or SSB The accessories plug is in place, heater filaments are glowing. C13 has been inspected and no sign of cracking - look fine RL1 & RL2 both removed, carefully cleaned and replaced Tried 3 different driver tubes Still no power out. I understand RL1 is the cause of many issues and not convinced there is a problem with it or the socket connections The VFO lamp goes out when PTT is pushed The relay clicks in and out. I did note it had to be wriggled around while in its socket or there was no bias voltage? I don't have another relay handy to just plug in and verify so what checks can I do to check the relays functioning properly I'm reading up, going through old pages - there was a RL1 file somewhere with all known about it but can't locate that. Really stuck for the moment but trying to be logical - something in the PA chain at fault? What else could I measure and check? I''m no expert but keen to learn while fixing

FT-101ZD MK2 poor sensitivity .. 27
I recently bought this boat anchor in very good condition. I have not tested TX but the sensitivity of the RX side is quite weak.. I get the occasional broadcast station or HAM QSO but it's quite tone deaf. The S-meter barely moves on receive. It's not the 'bulb fuse' and I tested RX with the mark signal which gives me s9+20db in the meter reading. Are there any usual culprits? I was thinking of starting by cleaning the switches / dials with an electrical contact cleaner since a couple of them are somewhat scratchy. Thank you 73, M0KCR

FT-101ZD MK2 AM BOARD looks odd / modified??? 8
Hello, I had a look at the AM board and it seems to have been modified ... Is that from factory and what is this for? AM doesn't work that's why I pulled the board. 73

FT101E clarifier working when switched off 3
Hello group (This also posted elsewhere) After almost a 12 month postponement with a number of other more straightforward projects suddenly taking up bench space I'm back onto this elusive problem where the FT101E clarifier is working when it's turned off! The voltage swing at the VFO osc input is not as great as when its on, being about 0.35V. Compared to about 3.0V when clarifier switch is on (I really want to solve this because cosmetically this radio is in great condition and I've replaced the usual final cage suspect caps, the HV electrolytics and those on the regulator board). There remains just this one thing to resolve and I feel (after several hours) I have reached the limit of my knowledge in relation to what may be causing this. Thanks to many folk who have provided useful input to help me so far. Here is what I have tested or tried but with no success - Checked relay grounding is sound Checked the clarifier push button switch is not faulty or intermittent Checked front panel VFO selector switch Swapped out Regulator/Calib module for known working one Swapped out Local Osc module for known working one Checked disc ceramic cap and diode (D13) wired directly onto clarifier switch/potentiometer I don't know what to do next and would certainly appreciate any ideas please :) Thank you Grant

Can someone help me identify the pins on Fig 4-9 in the service manual on page 4-17? Where are MJ 1-6? Pins 1-22 are illustrated on page 6-12 but I can't find them on the unit. Feeling a bit blind. And what does the "E" symbol mean on the table? --Kenoli
