FT-101 Main Tuning Dial Off Frequency

Please advise how to align the main frequency dial with the actual frequency being used.? I'm referring to the top lighted dial.? I recall seeing somewhere that there is an adjustment (pot?) which requires removal of the speech processing board but I can't locate this website again.? :-(? ?

Virus-free.

Mike, the main dial shows I'm at 14.048 when I inject a 14.060 Hz signal from my Elecraft XG2 receiver test oscillator.

Bruce

Thanks Geoffrey but that page speaks to the skirt vernier dial.? My problem lies with the main frequency dial just above.

Bruce

Bruce, is this a FT 101zd? IIRC, I had to net the reference crystal in the counter module in my zd. I think it is accessible through a little hole in the top of the counter case after you lift the processor module. It has been a few years since I did this so the details are foggy.?

Is the radio on AM or SSB? Just thinking that might make a difference. Maybe not 12kc's but...

Sorry Bruce, I just reread your initial post and see that it is the main analog dial that you are talking about.?

Hi everyone.

I'm still looking for guidance on how to adjust the main analog dial on my 101-E to match the received USB frequency.? I recall seeing something about making an adjustment on the VFO unit but I'd appreciate confirmation and what exactly to adjust.? If there is a special method to use to make this adjustment I'd appreciate that info also.
Thanks!
Bruce

Bruce,?

One thing you might check is to make sure the lubberline, or the indica line is square with the center of the dial.?

Sometimes the escutcheon of the front of the radio gets put back on a little askew.?

I know it's a longshot, but might be worth looking at. Just a thought...

Bruce,

I can't find anything listed anywhere but it looks like TC1 adjustment trimmer cap in the VFO should do it. I would note the position of the cap before moving it so if you need to return it back you can. I would tune the main dial to a known freq of a net for instance, and try the adjustment to bring the receiver to it. It shouldn't take much adjustment to do this if it has just aged and shifted over time. You can access TC1 by lifting the processor board that is on top of the VFO box. TC2 is the drift cancellation adjustment. TC1 should be the one you want.?

If you are not an experienced?radio tech, you are asking for serious trouble?if you mess with either of those trimmer caps in the VFO compartment

I am a bit confused?as to what you are trying to do but:

The flat disk behind the VFO dial is not mounted very hard and you?can rotate it with a little pressure to line it back up. It will slip. There?is even a slop ring behind?the VFO know that
can?be used to accomplish a similar thing,
I had one once where the previous owner turned the 500KHz disk thing almost 100KHz out of whack and sold the radio to me for $100?
because?it was "so far off" as to be unusable,'
It took me 15mins to fix it.?

Sorry for the typos,... sausage fingers.?
slop ring was supposed to be SLIP RING and VFO know?as supposed to be VFO KNOB.

You just hold the slip ring while rotating the VFO knob to get the 100KHz trim ring back on line,
The 500KHz (black ink and red ink) disk behind the frequency window is the one you can reach in behind?and gently?turn/rotate to line back up on the vertical window?
line but only after you have the VFO knob set to the frequency you "know" you are actually on.
Transmit and receive frequency matching?is an entirely different?matter and I suggest you look at Buddy's YouTube site for that info

Search YouTube for, The Radio Shop .... and then look through his videos for FT-101?
