Folders, Files and Photos Ownership
2
A note about Photos Ownership: Whoever uploads photos becomes the owner of those items even though he/she may have never actually had anything to do with their creation and original posting. For the original owner to regain control over the items here is my suggestion - Contact the existing photo folder owner or photo owner and ask for ownership to be transferred to you as the original owner. A note about Files Ownership: Whoever uploads folders or files becomes the owner of those items even though he/she may have never actually had anything to do with their creation and original posting. For the Original owner to regain control over the items here is my suggestion - 1 - Create a new folder with the same name but add an asterisk (*) at the end of the folder or files name. For example an existing 6146 folder would have a 6146* folder next to it (if sorting is by Name). 2 - Copy the 6146 folder files back onto your computer. 3 - Load the 6146* folder with the files. Change the comments section as required. 4 - Ask the existing folder owner, group owner or a moderator to delete the original 6146 folder. 5 - After the 6146 folder has been deleted you can delete the * at the end of the name. 73 Roger VE7LB

A new place , same classic radio.
2
Well well well .... here we have a new place to post messages and get information about our much loved Yaesu FRG-7 receiver. While it is true that this isn't Yahoo groups (they have recently closed) what remains is the same subject matter that we had back there. Hopefully this new group will be discovered by other users , and in time the same the same quality resource will be generated once again. Long live the Yaesu FRG-7 !!!! gregW:-) OH2FFY

Hashtags, files, and a wiki

Will the list owner please activate hashtags? Encouraging their use makes postings a lot easier to search. I have a lot of files to upload, but won't get to them until February. Jim, KA6TPR

Usenet and rec.radio.amateur.equipment
A little history; during the wild west of the internet, (1980) the User Network or Usenet was created. It was the first public forum for information exchange and was huge. You can wiki it. The reason I bring this up is that it covered the timespan for the FRG-7 introduction and most of the FRG-7 modification/development. The groups were named in the following format: rec.radio. (something) rec.radio.amateur rec.radio.amatuer.antenna rec.radio.amatuer.equipment rec.radio.amatuer.receivers and so forth. Google kept about 20 years of archives, and if you dig a bit, there is more info about Frogs than you can ever use. Jim, KA6TPR

Hello all, i just picked up my first frg-7 and one of it s problems is the MHZ selection dial is one MHZ higher than the received frequency. in other words to tune in 10.xxx i have to set the MHZ on 11 not 10. does any know what may cause this to happen?

LOCK and Preselector problems ...
4
Hi everyone, after a while I turned on my FRG7 and found two surprises ... the first : the led lock switches off regularly only from 14 MHz to go up, under 14 MHz up to 10 MHz it goes off but not in a defined way, from 7/8 MHz to go down it doesn't go out anymore, even if it is possible to hear the HAM in 40 meters without problems. I have seen in the manual that VR102 can be adjusted for correct alignment, I have to try. Any suggestions from you about this problem? the second : the preselector has no effect, turning the knob no longer has any "DIP" points in any range. Any suggestions from you about this problem? thanks and best 73 Luca IK2NUQ

WTB Good Working FRG-7
My Frog finally gave up the ghost. Does anyone have a good, solid working Frog that they don't think is worth the Moon, or, eBay prices? I'd love to buy a replacement. Please let me know. Thanks, Arthur

Deaf FRG-7, Please help
8
Hi, I have an FRG-7 that has become completely deaf, on all bands. I seem to recall reading somewhere that there is a part of area of the radio that, of pressed on, can wake the set back up. Can someone tell me where that might be? Thank you, Arthur

Counter plug on rear of my FRG-7
7
Hello FRG-7 users, i have one heading my way and on the rear there is a port simply labeled "counter".....According to the prior owner, he said " Gilfer Shortwave and Electronic Equipment Bank were big shortwave radio stores back in the day and they did mods to Frog 7s to take a digital counter." The thing is I cant find much information out there on what kind of digital counter it could take and if its something others here have seen. Thanks, Lou

Link to old FRG-7 mod page.

I'll try to start putting some FRG mods and reviews into the file pages soon. Here is a link from the past that still works, too bad they didn't complete the ambitious start they made. http://www.monitor.co.uk/radio-mods/frg-7/frg-7.htm Jim, KA6TPR

don't know if there is a forum for the FT 757, so will give this forum a try. Question. Does anyone know if the FT-757GX II have a back ground light for the S meter? Since my unit has none I'm wondering if I should take it apart to find a burned out bulb or some such. 73

S & S Engineering Digital Readouts
I previously added some information about the S & S Engineering Digital Readouts to the Files Section "FRG-7 with non GAR-7 Digital Readouts" folder. There is presently an eBay seller with four of these unbuilt kits for sale at $40 each delivered. eBay # 372956780739. The only problem is that they don't come with cases. I mention the case size in the files section. Alternatively the LED section could go in the existing dial window and the circuit board elsewhere in the FRG-7. I have no relation to the seller. 73 Roger VE7LB

FRG-7 Caps
4
Hello my name is Rick new to this group ,I got a FRG-7 from Danny in Quebec that looks and works like new ,I found a website that shows you how to find out when the set was made ,my ser. # is 6M081728 so from what I found out the set was made in November of 1976 ,I opened up the set to look at the chassis and found out that the big electrolytic caps were a very light blue colour and made by Rubycon and the smaller electrolytic caps were a grey colour and made by Elaina ,I had read that some say to change the caps because of their age and some say if they work and look fine just leave them alone ,anyway i just wanted to know if any of the members would know that because the bigger caps are of a different brand than the smaller caps could it be that some of the caps have been change in it,s life ,I really don,t want to change all the caps in this unit it looks too tight in there for me ,I would have thought that Yaesu Musen used all the same brand caps in the set that they built ,any thoughts on this ,thanks for your time all the very best Rick

Filter mod - need help
5
Hello all My FRG 7 had a filter mod done at some stage in its life and I need some help to work out how to wire it up properly. It's a long story, but while recapping the radio the filter, which was wired into the mode switch, came adrift. Completely operator error, but of course now I am having trouble now working out how to wire the filter back in. I have attached two photos showing the filters. Any help appreciated. Radio works well, but is now deaf. cheers, Phil

Replacing T101
I had to replace T101 in my FRG. The small winding (the one closer to the antenna input) turned out to be interrupted, so I couldn't receive any more in the A band. My attempts stopped a long time ago, so at present time I can't recall all the steps I made to set up a home-made replacement for that transformer. For sure I couldn't use the original tiny coil former. The main winding might even have broken off, while I was handling that delicate component. Both windings, in fact, were made of extremely thin enameled wire. I made my deductions concerning a possible value for the parallel inductance in the preselector (the main winding). I considered the frequencies involved for the A band and the maximum and minimum capacity the variable air capacitor may give, considering how it is used for the A band (I inspected the schematic). Signals on A band came back, but I had to face an imperfection: readings on preselector's scale after adjusting are not coherent with the received frequency readings. I asked for a test a friend of mine owns a FRG-7 as well. So I eventually concluded the mentioned behavior is not normal. Has anyone here possibly faced and fixed the same issue? So far I couldn't even find the service manual, but I suppose the alignment procedure for the preselector might be acting on the inductance to tune at the lowest frequency of A band, and acting instead on the trimmer capacitor to align the preselector around 1.6 MHz. I've in mind to get back to work with that receiver. Meanwhile, I tried to ask here, after realizing this is a new place for FRG-7 owners after the Yahoo Groups service was discontinued. Thanks in advance! A.
