I don't want to get involved in all of that, but there are a couple of Yaesu
groups created before the changes for basic groups and I'd just suggest it be
uploaded to one of those groups.

Alternatively, someone can set up a web hosting site and link to the file(s)

in order to keep equipment working service information is a must? so having the files active is a must to help all that want to repair the equipment?
glad to talk about it?

Hello everyone. FYI on Veterans Day we will be operating NJ2BB from the Battleship New Jersey. We will probably be on 20 & 40 SSB depending on conditions between 0900 - 1400 EST. This is not a special event operation but a couple of us doing what we can to honor all Veterans while the ship's crew does their own ceremonies.

Re: my first Yaesu

Hi Donald
Thank you for the return mail

The real subject of this posting is to invite all to give their account of
their first Yaesu

Sorry but from memory most Groups IO started as Groups and a fear few
changed for the enhanced platform and Groups IO helped with the migration
And all was going sweet until Groups decided to call it a day so those that
acted quickly transferred at Zero cost
Then it was cost at $100 and later any new sites would not get the storage
but at present you can up grade for one month at $20 and this will give you
the additional features

Re your line "no per-member charge for groups over 100 members" this is new
to me
but one type of account dues give you 2000 members then charges you ?0.40
per member / year
so I can see in the future that charges could change so each group member
will have to pay $1 per year

Regarding number of posts for a sight I am a member of a few and the
active ones run between 10% to 80 % posts per month compared to the number
of members

Regards Paul

At this point, the group is new so I wouldn't expect a lot of replies, but
let's see if we get replies.

As to whether it's because we have no storage space, I doubt that's the case
personally since there are some groups with plenty of members and posts who
have a basic group created before they started adding a per-member fee for
gorups over 100 members. I created this group for that reason, in case it
would be of some use to others. There are a couple of recent Yaesu groups
that are well-esablished that have a few posts every week.

A few years ago you could create a basic (free) group that had storage, no
per-member charge for groups over 100 members, up to 3 subgroups per group,
and more. There have been a few changes along the way but groups created
before certain dates had their feature sets grandfathered into the group
with no fees or charges. .

I also created a bunch of other groups, some for vintage radio brands no
longer made. Stick around until the beginning of the month and one of the
reminder messages sent out monthly will have the entire list in case you're
interested.

As to the second part of your question, I also doubt that. Plenty of people
have purchased new radios and seek out help on how to use the various
features. Todays radios have features buried under multi-level menus that
are sometiems not intuitive. I don't have a modern Yaesu, but I have been
told by some that their menu system is less intuitive than Icom's. I have a
Yaesu FT-767GX that I bought for $50 late last year at a tailgate hamfest
and got it working for less than an additional $50. Working, but not fully
restored, as the built-in antenna tuner doesn't work yet, but since I don't
use the internal tuner on my Icom 7300, I won't likely use it on the 767,
either. I use an external tuner.

And owners of th enew radios run into simple problems they can't figure out
for themselves, like a high SWR that was traced to a bad coax jumper that
worked just fine the day before, or the radio shutting down when
transmitting due to a bad electrical connection at the fuse, Molex connector
on the back of the radio, etc. Many people don't have good troubleshooting
skills and need the help and support of others. It's a great way to learn
new things when you post a help needed questions.

My 767 doesn't have a touchscreen or a menu system. Everything is
accessible, mostly from the front panel, one or two things require removing
the cover. I prefer this arrangement but love the features of the newer
radios. And I did use some radio forums to get information when I was
figuring out what needed fixes on the radio.

my first Yaesu

Hi all the following is to generate a bit of traffic?

Although I am new to the group but I do not see any activity is this because? we do not have any storage space to store associated literature to any of the articles? ?
or is it??because??most have there equipment and it does every think thy want so no help required?

Personal i fell in love with Yaesu at the age of 19? before that i could only admire the equipment my first encounter was the FT 220 being the first? 2 mt all mode rig?
from then on I moved into a flat so aerials gave me a problem but more recently?

i was sad to have to by my next rig from Icom 9700 because? Yaesu had not developed a multi mode rig for 2mt ,70 cm and 23 cm?
personal the 9700 has good points but icom have missed out a bit? personal i think Yaesu could produce a winier as the market is crying out for
a 4 band rig to do 2 mt to 13 cm as this will then cater for the growing satellite market? but it will require video TX and RX ether included or from an associated computer?
the icing on the cake would be to include 4 mt as this would generate more activity on the band for the VHF operators

Regards Paul??

Was the “A12” indicator always flashing or is it just me? If it’s not supposed to be, what should I check?

aprs.fi shows functioning.

NFM mode selected.?

Welcome new members

Edited

This group may take a while to "gain traction" with enough members to make a difference when someone posts a question. I created it as a general discussion group for all Yaesu radios and ham equipment.

I'll introduce myself as a ham operator licensed back in 7th grade in 1967 or 1968 as a Novice operator. I eventually went for general but didn't pass the code test, so the FCC examiners asked me if I wanted to take the test for Tech, since it was the same written exam back then for general and tech. I went back several months later and had studies for advanced, since if I passed the 13 WPM code test I would at least have general. I passed the code test and the advanced exam and left with an advanced license. The next step was a big hurdle, but I studied and got to almost 25 WPM for the code test (the requirement was 20 WPM), and passed both several months later.

I went for extra partly for the challenge and partly because I was tired of remembering where I wasn't allowed to transmit in a band. :-)?? I did all that except the novice part between 1980-82.

I have a 102 ft doublet fed with 450 Ohm windowline and an MFJ auto tuner that I use with my 7300 and my recently repaired and mostly restored (I have a little more work to do on it to get the tuner and some little things working) Yaesu FT-767GX I bought for $50 and have about $30 in parts in it.

New ham groups added, new groups.io pricing structure on Jan 18, 2021 (long post, intentionally cross-posted)

First, the new pricing structure for NEWLY formed groups on groups.io
beginning January 18, 2021.

Basic (free) groups formed on or after that date stay free *up to 100
members*. After that, it will need to be upgraded to a premium group.
Premium groups ($220/year) are good up to 400 members, after which a
per-member fee ($.05 per month or $0.55 per year) is added to the $220
per year premium group fee. That will bring a burden on some new
groups, so I created some more ham groups that may grow, or flounder,
but I wanted to beat the deadline so those groups will not be charged
extra fees, or any fees, for that matter. If they take off and are
useful, that will be great. If they flounder, I might just delete the
group if members agree, or if there are no co-owners by the time I
review whether the group is worth keeping.

If you were thinking of creating a group for one of your interests,
THIS IS THE TIME TO DO SO before the new pricing structure goes into
effect. If you need help with that, email me *privately* and if I'm
not overwhelmed with requests, I will try to help. You must be willing
to assume group ownership as I will leave the group after creating it
and you've been made a group owner. If you need help getting started
with the group, I can hang around for a short while and direct you to
documentation on how to run a group.

As for the new groups I created last evening, I will list their web
addresses below.

Please contact me *privately* ONLY IF you are interested in joining
one of these groups AND ARE UNABLE to use the join button on the web
site or find the join process confusing. I would like to avoid what
happened when Yahoo closed their groups and I offered to help people
if they were unable to join themselves. I was overwhelmed with
requests to help, and I'm sure not all of those were from people who
had difficulty joining, so please give it a try yourself first. Go to
the site and press the join button on the group(s) you are interested
in. Follow the simple instructions and you will be approved. All new
members will be moderated for a short time so don't expect to post
immediately. There's only one moderator right now (me), and I work for
a living, sleep at night, and take naps because of my health condition
in late afternoons sometimes. I donate some of my time for community
work, am a minister, and have to wisely use my time.

But I don't want anyone to not join one of these groups because they
find it difficult to join.

YOU CAN JOIN ANY OF THESE GROUPS BY EMAIL by sending a message to the
subscribe address. Take the web address name at the end of the URL and
change it by adding [email protected] to it.

For the FT-757 group (as an example):
/g/FT-757GX
Send an email to this address:
[email protected]
no body text is required in the message, just the address, but to make
your email program happy, you can put the word subscribe in the
subject and message fields.

These new lists are email reflectors only with no storage (a change
that was made almost a year ago by GIO's owner). If I had created them
before February 2020, they would have storage. We will work something
out for storage if the groups get large enough and have a need for
that.

I will need moderators for these new groups, and soon after they get
on their feet, a co-owner who has some real interest and hopefully
experience with these different brands of radios.

Contact me off-list if you are interested in volunteering with any of
these groups. I will help you out with anything you need to know about
how to manage a group as a moderator or co-owner.

I will list the NEW groups first, then list the other amateur radio
groups I created.

Note that most of these are not model-specific and are
"general-purpose" groups for a BRAND of radio or a general-purpose
group for a type of equipment. I did not create any group for which
there already was a general-purpose discussion group for that brand of
radio, like Drake and some others. I am not interested in amassing a
lot of groups to manage. My purpose is just to see that interests in
major amateur radio brands are covered by some group for our amateur
radio community.

Let me know *privately* if I missed a MAJOR brand of vintage or
current brand of amateur radio and I will decide if I want to create a
group for that, but I'm not interested in managing lots and lots of
ham groups. My purpose is to get these groups created so they will be
grandfathered under the old pricing structure and won't cost the group
owner (me) money based on how many members there are.

Antennas will be covered by our ham-antennas group, so I didn't think
creating a new group for the major makers of antennas would be useful
and might just splinter the community across more groups. The antenna
tuners group is not approved yet but should be by later today so you
should be able to join in a few hours if you're interested.

The NEW groups are:

New ham groups, also new pricing structure for groups

The next message is about some new groups I created to have a
general-purpose discussion group for some brands of amateur radio
equipment and radios before groups.io's new pricing structure goes
into effect Jan 81, 2021.

It is a long message, so I just wanted to give you a heads-up. I
cross-posted it to all the groups I manage.

I will be looking for moderators for the new groups and even some of
the established groups, so if you're interested in helping, please
email me privately about this.

For the rest, please read my next post. It's a long and detailed one.
