Re: Full Duty Cycle radios

The way I look at it is it is not about specs it is about heat. ?That is why I love the temperature meter on the Ftdx101mp. ?I think most of the recent radios from Yaesu have that as part of the meter. ? Just turn on the temperature meter and watch what happens with the temperature of the final. ?Keep that within specs and you will be fine. ?I do the same with my Flex 6400 although in that case I had to add on some software that puts a meter on the screen that shows the temperature of the finals. ?I don’t think ft8 is exactly 50% duty cycle in that the temperature during receive never goes quite back to normal after transmit. ?Additionally you will see a steady rise in the temperature as you continually use ft8. ?I also am very protective of equipment so I never run more that 50% rated output power of the radio and never use an amp. ?

Yeah, what is the deal with that?? My FT710 says it supports a 50% duty cycle, but then appears to retract that claim when running FT8, which I thought was almost exactly a 50% duty cycle.

Thanks for the reply.? That is good to know.? I did see in the FT950 manual that it was advised to run it at 1/3 to 1/2 power if making long digital mode transmissions.??? My FT450AT handled it like that fine for 2 1/2 years, then it didn't.

I ran my FT-950 almost every day like that for 7 years. Never had a problem. sstv, ezpal, rrty, you name it, I ran it.

Has anyone seen a list, or have knowledge, of which Yaesu transceivers are rated for 100% power out for full duty cycle modes like RTTY and FM?
