Difficulty acquiring locomotives with a Duplex throttle

I have a DR5000 (now a YD7001) connected to a LocoNet with a UR93 on it. I can run locomotives fine with either the DT602D or the UT6D throttles. However I can't seem to acquire the locomotives unless I plug them into the LocoNet directly. Has anyone else encountered this issue and is there something wrong in my setup?

Scott Walton

Yes it does work. For me it happened instantly with no config required.
A few things to check:
  • The green light on the UR93 should flash every second. If you make a change in the DT602D throttle (eg F1) then the green light will flash at a different rate for a moment.
  • The YD7001 LocoNET RX light should flicker whenever it sees data - eg pressing a function key).
  • I have the DT602DE throttle as it uses the European frequencies and not the USA ones. I assume you have checked the use of the UR93 with a Digitrax control unit.

I previously had a Digitrax DCS240 and had no problems. Since I moved to the DR500 and not YD7001 acquiring a locomotive over the Duplex network doesn't seem to work. It acquires fine when plugged in, but not when disconnected. I get the same results with both a DT602D and a UT6D. I will try with a DT500D and see if I get the same results. I have monitored the Loconet transmissions and it seems to be almost comnplete, just missing the last transmission back to the throttle. Heres the JMRI Loconet monitor for the relevant area:

The message about "Query Tetherless Receivers" should be the time when I plugged the throttle in and then acquired the locomotive (address 2004).

I have a YD70001 (upgraded from a DR5000) and two DR5033 boosters, 2 DR5013 reversers, 2 DR5088RC railcom readers, and many RR-CirKits devices (2 TC-64's, 1 TC-64 Mk II, many SignalMan, TowerMan, WatchMan and MotorMan devices).?

I moved the UR93 and throttles over to a mini-layout with a DCS50 (the original Zephyr command station). I had no problem acquiring and running trains with the UT6D or the DT602D (I never even plugged them in). I also tried both a DT402D and a DT502D throttle on the YD7001 with the UR93.? Both come up, recognized the the correct network and both immediately went to "Idle" When I plugged them in, I could acquire the locomotives but could not run them when the throttles were unplugged (bot flashed the light when any communication was attempted). Curiously, the Loconet monitor for JMRI was showing the throttle commands, even though the throttle thought they weren't going out.

So it appears that there is something going on in the Loconet that is causing the issue, but I don't have clue what it is. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Have you tried having the UR93 be the ONLY LocoNET device plugged into the YD7001?
My quick test the other night was the bare minimum - just the YD7001, UR93 and DT602DE
I seem to recall having an intial problem last year when the UR93 wasn't the first LocoNET device in the chain on my DCS240.?

I disconnected everything except the UR93 from the LocoNet T (leaving the two boosters on LocoNet B). I acquired a locomotive ONCE with the UT6D, ran it and then released it. After that I could no longer acquire anything. I powered off both the YD7001 and the UR93 and tried again. It seems to ALMOST acquire a locomotive but can't complete the last step to notify the throttle. When I attempted to acquire a new locomotive which was sitting there on the track, with the sound idling, as soon I got almost to the end of the sequence (pressed the Loco button on the throttle the second time), the sound went off. This was a locomotive with an ESU Version 5 decoder which has the sound off until you turn on F8, so it seems that it sent out a packet with the new settings with F8 off.

I tried a UT4D but couldn't get anywhere with it, even when I plugged it in! Nearly everything else is working fine (I have signals working, detection working, Railcom readers working fine, but Digitrax throttles just aren't working.

Can you confirm that when you use the wired DT602D to acquire and control a loco that it still works when you then unplug the LocoNET cable?

Unfortunately the part of the LocoNet docs do not include the specs for working with the UR92/92 ?

So we could not implement that feature.

I have mine UR93 and ur92's plugged into loconet B and they work fine.? Something to try.

Would it be sooo simple that the UR need th RailSync ??

?

My understanding is that the UR's do need rail sync.

I tried a UR93 on the LocoNet B network and it didn't wokr there. I also tried a UR92 there and got only red/green flashing lights.

So I am clear, the LocoNet B network is the Booster network, correct?? So it DOES have railsync, right?

I ask because I have the UR93 (only) but have observed this same problem with my DR5000 (not yet upgraded) - though it appears to be intermittent.

Yes, correct.

I did find that sometimes I could acquire a locomotive with the DR5000 (though sometimes there was a long wait). Now with the upgrade chip, I have never been able to acquire one.

I just upgraded to the UR93 as the UR92 had difficulties acquiring locos with the YD7001. Actually the main problem wasn't acquiring locos as much as it was consisting them. Now that I have upgraded to the UR93, I too am not able to acquire locos wirelessly, but no problems when plugged into a UP5 panel.

Update: I found firmware updates available for the DT602D and the UR93 and flashed the new firmware. I still can't acquire a loco with either a DT602 or UT6, but have no problems acquiring or consisting with a DT402D.?
