YD7001 LAN Connection
Hi All, real Ludite question. Just upgraded the DR 5000 to YD7001. Went smooth as silk. I own Traincontroller 9 silver but thinking about upgrading to Gold 10. I currently use the TC Gold Demo program before committing., but wavering because cannot connect by LAN. I can connect beautifully by USB. All works a treat. But try and switch to LAN connection and it times out. YD7001 connection changed to LAN. Now here is my Luddite question, I have the YD7001 connected directly to the Computer. All my reading assumes I work through a router. My question is do I need to go through a router or should the connect work fine through a direct connection? I want to free up the USB connection to work with JMRI for points and rosters and Decoder Pro, Lokprogrammer etc. |

I believe that to connect the YD7001 and a computer through a LAN connection you are going to need a router.? When a device connects to a LAN network it needs an ip address.? One of the functions of? a router is to provide this to the device (note: there are several types of ip addresses - dynamic, static, etc. that are beyond what I can answer simply).? So to join a network each device needs a ip address and normally this comes from the router - the YD7001 needs one and so does your computer.? Plugging the YD7001 an the computer together through A LAN cable will not work as far as I know - there may be a way to do this that someone who is a network guru can explain. The router I use on my model railroad network at home is old - at least 15 years and by todays standards very slow - this network is completely isolated from my house network.? You do not need a gigabit router for your train since the data that is moving is very small versus the massive amount of data that moves when you stream video.? Others may be able to suggest a suitable router for your needs that can be purchased today and not cost you lots of $$$$. I have not converted my clubs DR5000s to YD7001s yet - upgrade kit is on its way to me now.? So right now I don't have hands-on with making all this work.? Others have already converted and hopefully someone should be able to help with any network settings on the YD7001 and the software. Jay Lennox - Toronto |
A direct cable link is also possible. You just have to set both YD9401 LAN and PC to have a fixed IP address ( static ) ? Just an example. ? How the PC has to be configured. depends on the windows version.
? IP: 192.168.70.50 Netmask 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.70.1 ? Greets, Karst |

I would expect that you would need to use an Ethernet crossover cable, rather than a standard network cable if you were to connect directly without a switch or a router in the middle. These look like normal cables except that Transmit and Receive wires are reversed (so that one ends Transmit becomes the other ends Receive and vice versa). You can buy these cables in several places, or you buy a small dongle that plugs into the RJ45 socket and reverses the wires (so that you can use a standard cable). You can also make one yourself if you have the proper crimper. It could also be the YD7001 automatically adjusts, if it was designed that way.

Both work Scott. ? The YD9401 has AUTO-MDIX on board, which means it determines by itsself whether a cross or straight cable is connected.? So don't bother buying exotic RJ45 cables, ith night ( and will ... ) kill any s88n module when using a cross cable on s88n !! From my special YD7001 (YD7400 = test & debug version ): Greets, Karst |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýMost network ports are auto-negotiating and will automatically switch the wires around, I haven¡¯t needed a crossover cable in at least 15 years ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Scott Walton

Greetings All, I have returned from my holiday and think I have followed your advice Karst. I have found the ip address of the YD7001. 192.168.0.94, set that in the Track Go/Stop tab, entered the ip, subnet mask, and Default Gateway into Windows 10 Ethernet settings. Ensured the YD LAN settings in the YD are STATIC, connected track and a bright yellow Ethernet cable and bubkiss, zip, naught, nothing. So I loaded the ip address into Traincontroller 10 Gold, it told me to consult a computer expert. Well here I am folks. I will post some pics to show the setup. I humbly ask for assistance please.

Have you set the port for loconet to 5560? No, in TrainController. The DR5000 used 5550 as the Loconet TCP port, YAMORC

uses 5560 by default as the TCP port. If you have TC setup for a DR5000 then you could change the port in the YD7001 to 5550 to regain connectivity - BUT be aware that this could have consequences when upgrades are applied if they change the port back to 5560. Best to change it within TC - though not being a TC user I don't know where that change would be made, I would think somewhere in the interface definition. -----Original Message-----

is there away to use loconet over IP on traincontroller I did not think there is On Mon, Sep 4, 2023 at 9:23?AM Iain Morrison <w.iain.morrison@...> wrote: No, in TrainController. The DR5000 used 5550 as the Loconet TCP port, YAMORC |
Hi Don
Thank you, the YD 7001 is now working a treat with the PC interface by changing the Ethernet Properties to 192.168.0.93. Thanks again. Now to get Traincontroller communicating via LAN. Iain says the Port needs to be changed, but I haven't found where to do that yet. You were a great help Regards Reg |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThanks Ian,?I changed the protocol to Z21 and bingo, all working fine.? With that of course all the addresses in TC had to be changed from Loconet to Z21. Thanks again, very much appreciated.? Regards Reg On 5 Sep 2023, at 3:28 pm, don_chi_orchawa@... wrote:

I am amazed that TC doesn¡¯t have Loconet TCP/IP - staggering omission. Many Thanks Iain Morrison On Tue, 5 Sep 2023 at 23:04, Reg foster <Mgb074@...> wrote:
