Joe and Deb Hurlburt 2
Good morning? I wanted to update you all on Joe and Deb Hurlburt trainings coming up in May at Meadowbrook Ranch in Magalia. For the trailing class May 24-25-26 I have 3 spots open. For the HRD class May30-31- and June 1st. I have 2 spots open. Meadowbrook is a beautiful area with miles of trails/forest and ponds for dog swimming. No poison oak or fox tails. The red barn has a full kitchen/bathrooms and plenty of area for cots etc inside. Dogs are allowed in the building there has been NO poison etc placed in the building for rodent there are no rodents? There is also camping spots for RVs/tents as well. No hookups and cell service can be a little spotty. The charge for camping or using the barn is $20 a night. Charge for each of the classes is $600. The limit per class is 6 people with their dog. Observer is $100 per class. No dog The limit is 3 observers. You will be asked if you can be a trail layer. What better way to learn? If you want to just be a trail layer no charge. I would like to know by the 15th of April if you want a spot. The classes are small but that way you will get a lot more time and individual input from the instructors. Spots are going fast. I have trained with Joe and Deb the last 4 years. They come with a vast amount of knowledge and experience. They don’t use the training methods that “ this is the only way to train your dog”. They work with you and your dog as individuals and what might work the best. They want to hear your input and together come up with plans for success. If you have any questions or need to contact me you can reach me at email. k9searcher319@... Phone 530-520-6167 I’m excited about these trainings!! Madde?

interest in K9 training at spenceville this Friday ? 7
This was one of the possibilities Lt. Jensen suggested, and I got a permit for it. This location is off Hwy 20 on Spenceville/Smartville Rd, to turn south towards Beale AFB and turn left on Waldo rd. Continue until you see the sign for campground (large open field). No cell there, no facilities of any kind. Pretty open territory, maybe cows. RSVP to me please. Carol

Hello K9 Team..........!
There are lots of activities occurring in Yuba county these last few months of the year, notably the SAR Academy in which takes between 9-10 days/ partial days in November. It's a good time to review what the county requirements are for us, as a goal to meet, and that is 8 events/year. These events can be any of the following: * attend the Annual Dinner Fundraiser (this is required)- March 29, 2025 - and birthdays for 4 of our k9 teams (Carol will bring big cake) * general meetings - currently 4 x/yr - next one Wed. Oct. 16 * searches * community events * K9 team trainings as advertised As always, do the best you can, so we see your faces !! Best, Carol Shapiro K9 Magic

It's now available for us to sign up at http://www.k9medic.com/events. Pick the one day you want, either Sat Sept 21 or sun Sept 22. It's listed under CARDA. Give your credit card - and you can choose to wait to pay until 3 weeks before the class. Once you get your ticket for the program, the online classes will open up to you on their website, under "your classes". The first two are Basic Airway and Narcan Administration. Great News ! K9 Medic coming to Yuba County Sheriff's Dept.
Sept. 21 and 22, Sat. and Sun., K9 Medic, a group highly experienced in teaching advanced, hands-on canine emergency treatment, will come to Yuba county, and will teach two, 8-hr stand-alone classes. Check their website, http://www.k9medic.com, or ask me to send you their program. We will be doing the experiential level, which should include sub-cutaneous fluid injection for dehydration, first treatment of bloat by needle puncture of the stomach, rattlesnake bite, wasp/bee stings. We will do canine exertion curves in class. Before this advanced class, Jo-Anne Brenner HIGHLY RECOMMENDS doing the online introductory class prior to this hands-on one. You will take the vital signs of your own dog and do other skills that will prepare you for the advanced class later in the summer. I believe it costs around $125. The cost of the advanced class is somewhere between $250 - $395. I have spoken with Joann and there are several things we are trying to bring down the cost. I will keep you all updated. This is very exciting, as K9 Medic hasn't been up in northern Calif. much. Let's have a good turnout. Best, Carol Shapiro TGL Mid-Sierra

conversation with K9 Medic 11
Team, I had a great talk with K9 Medic today and want to report. Over the years, I have seen, been at, or know of CARDA handlers who have had to do some pretty serious medical stuff for their dogs. Snakebite, bloat, heat dehydration, ground-nesting wasp stings, foreign object stuck in throat, CPR...barbed wire slashes, cut to an artery.... K9 Medic has a great program, both online and in-person. I'm thinking about a Basic online class that everyone would take so that they would be ready for an intensive, experiential one-day session in September, that would be hands-on treatment for some of the things up above. This takes planning and dedication on all of us. I like the fact that in the Experiential class they would do an exertion curve for some, or all of the dogs........... Working with K9 Medic staff, who are going to be in Northern Ca for part of the summer doing other classes, can help with shipping costs for the stuff they use in class, and help decrease cost. Please check into their website http://www.K9medic.com. Cost for online Basic is about $125. The experiential class would be between $250 - $395, but Joann is willing to be flexible on this. Class has a minimum of 8. We have time to do fundraisers too. What is your interest? I'm thinking of Yuba K9 first and foremost. Then, could ask other counties, then could open to Mid-Sierra. If we opened to CARDA I would want help organizing for sure. So far, Sept 14-15 and 20-21 are good for her, and I'm willing to give up Stone Cellar and replace with two 1-days in Yuba Co., but I want to see what kind of interest there is in our growing team FIRST. Please lets discuss. Carol Shapiro

Two important dates for K9 3
April 20 an Oct. 26 - tentative to pencil in for Fill the Pack. We are very appreciative for Yuba Board paying for our DogTEamPro account this year, over $2000, so we want to show up to these as best we can. I'll start organizing the April 20 date...........but I will be out of town. Carol

Take Aways from Group Training 3
I was really proud when I was standing at CP at the end of the day and listening to members of our team say over and over again how well the dogs did at this training. I also heard the horses did well too which was good to because it has irked me in other counties when they were just "parade" ponies. One thing I did see that I was disappointed in (and I'm not going to comment on the rest of the team) was dog team members showing up to what was essentially a Mock Search and not having the map downloaded into their phone or whatever they were going to use to navigate at the search. Our Search Managers sent out links to the maps as well as descriptions/direction as to what our roles were at this Mock Search days before the actual event. If you don't know how to access this information that is okay! Ask someone - this is a learning event! Not a real search. Don't wait until the last minute to find out there is no service or people don't have time to help you. We are a TEAM - we are there to help you. We all pull together and we leave no one behind. Anne

Hello All 8
This is a test message to everyone who has signed up for YCK9TG. I’m still waiting for a couple of people to answer but am hoping to have everyone on board soon. We can decide if we want to keep using messages or use this forum for communication. I know that for me I don’t know who is sending messages at times because it just comes as a phone#. Does it matter? Anne
