conversation with K9 Medic

Team,
I had a great talk with K9 Medic today and want to report.

Over the years, I have seen, been at, or know of CARDA handlers who have had to do some pretty serious medical stuff for their dogs. Snakebite, bloat, heat dehydration, ground-nesting wasp stings, foreign object stuck in throat, CPR...barbed wire slashes, cut to an artery....

K9 Medic has a great program, both online and in-person. I'm thinking about a Basic online class that everyone would take so that they would be ready for an intensive, experiential one-day session in September, that would be hands-on treatment for some of the things up above. This takes planning and dedication on all of us. I like the fact that in the Experiential class they would do an exertion curve for some, or all of the dogs...........

Working with K9 Medic staff, who are going to be in Northern Ca for part of the summer doing other classes, can help with shipping costs for the stuff they use in class, and help decrease cost. Please check into their website

Cost for online Basic is about $125. The experiential class would be between $250 - $395, but Joann is willing to be flexible on this. Class has a minimum of 8. We have time to do fundraisers too.

What is your interest? I'm thinking of Yuba K9 first and foremost. Then, could ask other counties, then could open to Mid-Sierra. If we opened to CARDA I would want help organizing for sure.

So far, Sept 14-15 and 20-21 are good for her, and I'm willing to give up Stone Cellar and replace with two 1-days in Yuba Co., but I want to see what kind of interest there is in our growing team FIRST.

Please lets discuss.

I would be interested. I think it’s very important to have first aid training for our K9 partners. I would rather be prepared.?

I like the idea a lot! ?I actually looked into this after taking her class at HITS. ?Would we have to give up Stone Cellar, or could we just reschedule stone cellar? ?Also, we may consider inviting our YCSO patrol K9 partners as well, if we don’t fill all 8 spots with our team.?

I support this 100%.? ?Jo-Anne is amazing and their classes are first rate....

OK Sept 14 is OUT

Looks like the weekend of Sept 21 Sat and 22 Sun are our best bets. Pencil that in for a one-day class.

I believe so. But like I say, this info is very hard to get and could be lifesaving. We could also try to do fundraisers specifically for this.
