Hi All, Now we know when Gala Day is and therefore the date of the Friday night reunion we can start planning ours. I have confirmed with Bollo that the reunion is at the Soldiers Club in Leeton on Friday 15th March. So I rang the Hydro to make the booking only to be told that St Francis class of 74 have booked out the Hydro that weekend …although we could still do dinner there in the Dining Room on the Saturday night – we just won’t have accommodation there. Peter then suggested the Centre Motel which is at 22 Wade Ave for accommodation which is in walking distance of the Soldiers Club so I have rung them and put aside rooms in our name but Roly (owner) did say to get in quick. Phone numbers below. So…I think we could still aim for Hydro Saturday night for our dinner…in the dining room where we were in 2019 with most everyone staying at the Centre. The only other accommodation we have looked at is out at the Yanco Ag Institute where they have both motel style rooms and Bunkhouse accommodation…details below. Outside of that try the usual motels in town. The Centre at 22 Wade St have put aside rooms in either my name or YAHS 1964-69 Reunion…there are currently 9 Queen rooms and 11 twins. Contact Roly or Angel (daughter) on 02 69559221. The Ag Institute is on 02 69512611 or yai@.... We will get back to you regarding plans for the Beach Carnival/School tour, anything else for Saturday and breakfast Sunday. John & Pete

Hi All, We had a local catch-up over at Leeton on Friday. A great catch up but forgot to get some photos. Good attendance with John Rees, John Irwin, Chris Davis, Neil Crawford, Kel Furner, Don Dyce, Doug Williams, Col Smeeth, Bill Moncrief and me. We had a chat about our next local get together which we decided on 16th November over at Temora so chuck it in your diaries if you are in the area and want to join us. At least part of the day will be a visit to the Temora Aviation Museum but more on that closer to the day. We also had a chat about 2024 60 year reunion – yes, you read that correctly – next year marks 60 years since we fronted up to YAHS for our 1st Year and of course we celebrate that milestone with anyone who joined us along the way. You will be aware I put out an email earlier regarding accommodation and how the class of 74 from St Francis beat us to the punch at the Hydro. Anyway I booked in our Saturday night dinner get together at the Hydro and in the Dining Room where we were last time and I allocated some rooms at the Centre motel in walking distance to both the Hydro and the Soldiers Club. So…the itinerary at this stage is. We will aim for a school visit on Friday morning, BBQ lunch and trip to the Beach Carnival. Friday evening will be the OYU Reunion at the Soldiers Club and we will look to having a get together for partners at one of the local restaurants.. Saturday morning we thought that we should all head over to the Malthouse at Whitton for morning tea and lunch and then back to school for Gala Day. Then as mentioned, Saturday night dinner with partners will be at the Hydro. Sunday morning come join us for a brunch before heading home. Following is a list of people who have told me they are coming: John E Angus Mark & Debbie Briggs Graeme Foley John Fowler for Saturday only Neil Crawford John Catterson Kel Furner Dave Stott Col Semmler Rod Martin John Irwin Col Smeeth Don Dyce Bill Moncrief Chris Davis Doug Williams - Saturday night only Dave Sanderson & wife..both nights Neil Crawford Geoff Fox Chris Davis both nights John Hartnett & wife Al Wetten Graeme Foley - APOLOGY So, 23 plus 3 partners. If you are coming and I have missed you off the list, please get back to me. I think we had around 45 at the last one so hopefully some more of you might put up your hands – it would be great to catch up again as I suspect that the years are going to catch us up and we may not get too many back in 2029. All the best John E

FW: Yanconians' Foundation Update - Peer Year Coordinators
Just received FYI John From: yanco - Online Community [mailto:sender@...] Sent: Thursday, 21 September 2023 13:15 To: John Eyles Subject: Yanconians' Foundation Update - Peer Year Coordinators 21st September 2023 Foundation Update Dear YAHS Peer Coordinators, As you may be aware the OYU Foundation has launched an appeal to raise $10,000. These funds will enable two senior students to receive a Citizenship Scholarship. This is a new initiative and one that we believe will have a lasting benefit not only for the recipients but also for the communities in which they will be working and living. Our world needs good citizens and YAHS is blessed to have had many pass through its gates, as well as, having some amazing young people who have already demonstrated outstanding citizenship qualities. These scholarships will acknowledge and benefit these students. To be brutally honest, thus far donations to the crowd funding appeal have been very slow. In fact, only 6 alumni members have contributed (and notably from only 5 peer groups – 1950, 1958,1959,1962 & 1969). So, we need your help! Can I therefore I please ask that you rally the members of your peer group to donate to this worthwhile appeal? I have also included (see below) some further information which is on our website but feel free to use all or some of it to communicate the worthiness of this appeal to your peer group members. I am also available should you require any further information and/or provide useful feedback regarding the Foundation and OYU activities. Email me on (yanconiansfoundation@...) Thank you for the time and effort that you put into ensuring that your peer group remain connected. 2024 Reunion 7
Hi All, Happy New year and all that. Well who’d have thought that 60 years ago we were all little First Formers turning up for a life changing experience. To celebrate that hopefully many of us can catch up to relive those days on 15/16 March. So far I have…including me: Angus, Mark & Debbie, John Fowler (Sat only), Neil C, John Catterson, Kel Furner, Dave Stott, Col Semmler, Rod Martin, John Irwin, Col Smeeth, Don Dyce, Bill Moncrieff, Doug Williams (sat Night only), Dave Sanderson & wife both nights, Geoff Fox, Chris Davis, John Hartnett & wife, Al Wetten, Grahame Morris and Pete and Pauline Fraser, John & Jo Rees If Bo Jones taught me any maths that’s 28. Are there any more? Plan at this stage is if you are going to both Friday and Saturday nights…then Soldiers Club on the 15th (Beware the Ides of March J ) for the OYU Reunion as per usual and Saturday night at the Hydro. I will talk to Pete and John R in the coming weeks to finalise all that as we should be able to do a school visit on the Friday…hopefully morning tea, tour, lunch and Beach Carnival. Saturday will be usual recovery and Gala Day followed by our dinner at the Hydro on the Saturday night. Sunday we should be able to meet up again for breakfast and then head off on our respective ways. John

Reunion 7
Hi All, HNY. This will be the first of a couple of emails over the next few weeks. We are getting close now to the reunion weekend. Where did that 60 years go? J Hopefully you will have seen an email from the OYU regarding the dinner Friday night and how to go about booking. If you haven’t and wish to attend the Friday night then go here https://yanconians.com.au/?action=showreunion&category=dinner&code=&menuItem=OYU+Dinners+Bookings. Cost for that is $75.00. These are the details I have so far received from everyone who is coming to the Saturday night dinner at the Hydro are: Kel Furner, Dave Stott, Col Semmler, Rod Martin (both nights), John Irwin, Col Smeeth, Don Dyce, Bill Moncrieff & Joyce, Doug Williams (Sat night only), Dave Sanderson & wife (both nights), Geoff Fox, Chris Davis (2 night), John Hartnett & Lyn, Al Wetten, Grahame Morris & Bronwyn, John & Jo Rees, Chris Davey, Mark Briggs & Debbie and myself. Graham Foley is an apology and Neil Crawford can only attend Friday night. So, at this stage I have 25 for the Saturday night. Anymore or any changes to the above? Please get back to me as soon as you can. I am awaiting the Hydro to give me some options for dinner and when I have that I can let you all know. I have a meeting with the Principal – Marnie at the school on Tuesday 22nd Feb at 9.30. We hope to finalise plans for the Friday but hopefully it will be along the following lines. Meet up at School for morning tea. School tour (more recent changes) attend Beach Carnival and BBQ lunch. Then there’s the reunion dinner at the Soldiers Club in Leeton. I anticipate that partners will meet up via Jo & Pauline for a restaurant dinner somewhere in town. Saturday is Gala Day so another wander out to school and then meet up at the Hydro for drinks before dinner. Sunday we’ll try for a breakfast get together before getting on the road. John E

60th anniversary plans 8
Hi All, Just home from a most enjoyable day over at both the school and Leeton. Don accompanied me over to a meeting with the new YAHS Principal, Marni Milne and Pete Fraser who had had set this up for us. What a lovely lady. We were then offered morning tea in the dining room which around 10.30 filled briefly with young Yanconians. Nothing was too much for Marni as far as being hosts to us on Friday 15th March. To help with their catering etc. could you please email/phone me to let me know if you intend coming…thanks. The plan is to meet at the school at 10.30 Friday where there will be morning tea provided for us – most likely in the room we all knew as the Reading Room in McCaughey. That will be followed by a tour of the school at around 11am At 12 noon they will provide a bus to take us down to watch some of the Beach Carnival and where we will also have lunch. They will then bus us back to school and we can head off to our respective accommodation in readiness for Friday night at the Soldiers Memorial Club. Don’t forget that you have to book for this event online. Please go here to complete the booking https://yanconians.com.au/#oyudinnersbookings Jo Rees has also booked a table at Bienventu – an Italian restaurant just over the rise on the left hand side of the main street for partners….for around 6.30-7pm Gala Day kicks off at 9am Saturday morning so anyone interested can head out and wander around school for a few hours to relive old memories and make new ones. Our get together dinner kicks off 6.30 for 7pm Saturday evening in the dining room at the Hydro. Cost is $50 per head payable on the night. This is a two course meal consisting of medium Filet Mignon or Chicken Roulade with veggies followed either cheesecake or sticky date pudding. And we will try for a breakfast catch up on Sunday morning but will advise. If you have any dietary needs for Saturday night please email me back so I can pass it on. Besides myself I have details of the following: Angus Mark & Debbie Briggs John Fowler Saturday only John Catterson Kel Furner Dave Stott & Leonie both nights Col Semmler Rod Martin x 2 nights Col Smeeth & Robyn Don Dyce Bill Moncrieff & Joyce Doug Williams - Saturday night only Dave Sanderson both nights Geoff Fox Chris Davis 2 nights John Hartnett & Lyn Al Wetten Grahame Morris John Rees & Jo Chris Davey Neil Crawford - Friday night only Greg Brain Paul McMahon - Sat night only. Reunion just gone. 3
Hi All, What a great weekend. Started off at School on Friday for morning tea, then a McCaughey walking tour then on the bus and around the school and then down to the Middle Beach for the Beach carnival and lunch and following the Ironman race we returned to school for a walking tour. Many thanks to the YAHS staff who hosted us and made us feel special. Friday night for the OYU Dinner - a great night and good to catch up with some of our older peers. Saturday we had a leisurely coffee catch up and then out to School for Gala Day. Lots of nostalgic walks around the school. The Graffiti in the feed shed adjacent to the silos is still there and viewed some very old names up on the rafters. That's about all that's left now of the farm from our day and I don't think the silos are filled with pea trash anymore . Mid-afternoon it was back to town to get ready for our dinner at the Hydro. A good roll up and a most enjoyable evening that finished for some of us around 11pm. I hope Col Semmler had his pencil in hand jotting down some of the reminisces to add to our memoirs. A most enjoyable round of speeches and reminisces. I believe a couple of others (no names) might have batted on until the wee small hours. Sunday morning we again all met up at Stir (coffee) for breakfast and last farewells. Hopefully everyone had a safe trip back. We did officially agree to doing the 65th in 2029 but there were some later suggestions going around about having something in three years so watch this space. Had apologies from Graeme Foley, John Irwin, Steve Aughey, Col Smeeth, Mark Briggs, Adrian Varcoe, Keith Broomfield. Otherwise between the two events and besides myself, we had Angus, John Fowler, John Catterson, Kel Furner, Dave Stott, Col Semmler, Rod Martin, Don Dyce, Bill Moncrieff, Doug Williams, Dave Sanderson, Geoff Fox, Chris Davis, John Hartnett, Al Wetten, Grahame Morris, John Rees, Chris Davey, Neil Crawford, Greg Brain, Paul McMahon and Pete Fraser. Total of 23…so not too bad and would have been 30 if all the apologies had made it so I think we did pretty well. All the photos sent to me and what I took can now be viewed here /g/YAHS64/album?id=293821 . Note that you will most likely need to login to view. For those not on my main mailing list, please email me and I can send you an invite to join. Otherwise the photos are also up on our Facebook page and if you aren’t a member and wish to be then please request to join as it is a private group. YAHS 1964-1969. John

Strange email supposedly from Mark Briggs 4
Hi All, Hope this finds you all well. This morning I received a strange email from Mark. It suggested an email exchange between us as it said Mark had laryngitis and the flu. I have seen these scams before so I rang him and sure enough he doesnt have any flu symtoms and could speak :0) and he didnt send the email. I also got one from Keith Broomfield an hour or so later asking whether I knew what was going on and indicating he too had received the same email. I have suggested to Mark to reset his passowrd on his email account and set up two factor login. So if you receive something like the above - just delete. Mark also suggested what a few of us were thinking anyway and that was to look at say two year reunions instead of the current five year ones - we may look at something for 2026. And for the riverina locals I will be looking to have a local get together in October some time and will email that out toward the end of September. Gee, the damn year is getting away on us :0) John E.
