Hi John
I wanted to wait until I had my visit with the Urologist to make
sure my prostate was behaving itself. Everything O K.
With regards the Ariah Park visit I have been in contact with the
Pub and they are fine for lunch on Wednesday Thursday and Friday,
Tuesday not as convenient and definitely not on Monday.
Cafe is fine for coffee before lunch at the Pub.
I have some dental work happening on 6th of July so would prefer
our catch up the 3rd or 4th week of July
Great to hear from everyone. I'm sure I was in Dorm 8 in 68 and I
reckon I was next to Geoff Allen. Alan Ruby rings a bell as dorm
prefect.
Looking forward to seeing you in Ariah Park soon
Regards
Chris Davey

Hey John,
?
Good to hear
from you again – I saw you on the news the other night
talking real estate J. OK on the hip and I am sure we all
wish you well with that too.
?
Ariah Park is
only about an hour from Wagga. Or if needs be I am sure I
could find you a bed the night before if you wanted J
?
Still to hear
from the rest of the locals – come on Bill, Doug, Don, Chris
Davey (all important J ) Neil, Bags, Kel …anyway – you know
who you are – get back to me J

Hello
to all my fellow Yanconians,
?
Sorry
I have not been in touch but I have just been recovering
from my 5th hip replacement which has slowed me
down.
My
thoughts go out to Alan Doyle, Chris Davis and others who
have had more series health issues.
I
would like to catch up with you all some time but Ariah Park
is a long way from Albury to travel.
I
am presently selling Real Estate in Albury.
Your
regular e- mails are always of interest. ?
Regards,
John

Ah, the 4th year excursion. Maybe that
was my initiation to the barre- I did get a sway up. There
were at least 3 of us- to fill the car back to the ranch.
There may have been more at the pub- better walkers.?
?
Hello
Alan... yes, 1968 for Falls Creek. I have
included that in memoir and can now add your
name to the list of fellow tourists. But it
was a day trip, so you would not have gone to
the bar (in the drunk sense, not legal).
Unless you went on another snow trip that was
overnight??? On our 1967 Snowy excursion, we
stayed a night or 2 in workmen’s quarters. If
there was a pub nearby, I did not go to it so
can’t help you.

Re: [YAHS64] Couple of things
Alan
Ruby rang a bell for me too, but since it
wasn’t the dinner bell, I scarcely noticed
it. I’m with Johnny.
I
brought my first form English diary along to
a reunion once, that helps with some
memories.
I have
a recollection of a school trip to the snow,
maybe 1968, Falls Creek? We were housed in
some kind of National Park dormitory
accommodation, and after dinner, when no
doubt the teachers opened the bar, a few of
us snuck out and walked to a pub a couple of
miles away. VB on tap, my first taste of
beer. I can still taste it.
Downhill
from there, a bottle of takeaway cream
sherry, and a lift back to the facility,
giggling like a schoolkid all the way.
Chundering against a tree.
Yes,
Chris, agreed in full re Mark
and Howard. Perhaps Mark, you
should have grabbed the chord
and used it around his neck.? He
could have passed off the red
welts as love bites from all his
birds and chicks.
And
to answer John’s question... how
do we remember this stuff? .....
well John, it was only 51 years
ago that we did the HSC. As for
me, I have an innate ability to
remember nonsense, and not the
things that matter. It is good
that JE has “forced” me into
this project as my memory for
names of people, places, music
etc is evaporating at a worrying
pace.

Hi
Colin,
I
think you might be right about
Alan Ruby. Mention of him
rings a bell. Interesting
story by Mark Briggs regarding
his brother. From that
attitude I dont think it
matters that they are not on
speaking terms

Hi Col,
I am sure you are correct as it was
(I think) in that dorm my
wonderful Prefect brother
volunteered
to punish one of my
discretions with a
whipping using an electric
light cord.
He could have left it to any other
prefect !!!
What an excellent chap. What a pity
he repeated that year to
get a better HSC score.
?
He has chosen not to communicate
since a massive family
argument when our mother
died, so I cannot verify.
I was the sole executor,
and that put several noses
out of joint. But
everything was done
absolutely fairly so it
goes to show that? “no
good deed goes
unpunished”. Lol.

Cheers,
M

Hello Alan Doyle; I had heard about
your gammy leg but
did not know you
were now a
wheelchairer. good
on you for being so
positive and
continuing driving
and being social
etc.
Just to fill you (and anybody else
who is interested).
Dorm 7, starting
from the left side
looking in... K
Furner, S. Aughey,
A. Doyle, K.
Broomfied, D. Evans.
From the right side
of the door...? G.
Brain, J. Eyles, R.
Elwin, B. McCormack,
C. Semmler. Howard
Briggs was
prefect... you must
remember the deep
philosophical
discussions about
his never-ending
supply of chicks and
birds.
And yes JE.... I would bet that it
was Alan Ruby who
was prefect of Dorm
8 and in the corner
dagging hole. Chris
Davis, you might
confirm this?? Some
time ago I had Alan
Ruby in my mind but
for? some reason I
dismissed him.

???????????????????
Yep, I am still
in Deni, And
doing fine
really. A bit
limited, but
still drive and
can get around
town with a
wheelchair hoist
on the roof
?????????????????????????????????????
I am lucky to
have a good
group of friends
and we all catch
up regularly,
plus a son and 2
daughters who
are really
supportive.
??????????????????????????????????????????
Now, Dorm 7 - if
you were across
the room, then
maybe Greg Brain
was near you
(??? ), with
Barry McCormack
a little?
further down on
your side. Also,
I dont think
there was more
than 9 of us in
the one dorm ???
??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Hi

Firstly,
sorry to hear
about the leg

good but hope
you are
otherwise OK.
Are you still
in Deniliquin?

Dorm
7 was closest
to the Dining
Room – and
Alan Rub? I
never thought
of him – be
interesting to
see other
reactions to
that.
Interesting
about your

Gardiner 5

see what
others have to
add – I for
one certainly
cannot

think I was in
Dorm 7 as well

Howard was

To answer your
Question
regarding 1968
- ( I thought
That'll be
easy - Ha ) ,
I was in dorm
8 - or was it
7 ???? - the
one closest to
the dining
room anyway
!!!?? and
slept near Kel
and Dino ( so
they can
confirm ) . I
suspect Alan
Ruby may have
been our
prefect - but
am open to
corrections.
????????????????????????????????
Weren't there
other 5th
formers in
dorms? 5 &
6 of Gardiner
House ???
??????????????????????????????
I ran into a
bit of trouble
(not literally
) in 2016 and
had my leg
shortened
again and ( to
cut a long
story short? )
(-sorry about
the pun )
ended up in a
wheelchair.So
although I
wont be able
to make
reunions, Its
still good to
hear how
everyone is
getting along.

Hi
All - again,
hope this
finds you well
and that Chris
Davis and Dave
Stott are all
improving.
They're the
only ones I am
aware of that
have been on
the sick list?
recently.
I have sent
out an email
to see if our
Riverina
locals wanted
to get
together?
somewhere
around the 7th
July and
probably in
Ariah Park.
When I have a
date and
confirmation
of venue I
will put out
another email
in case any of
you outside
the area want
to come?
across. These
get togethers
are always a
good fun day
out.
Secondly, a
bit of a heads
up and a
question for
you all. As
you may be
aware, I have
been on Col
Semmler's back
since 2014 to
get him to
write up some
memoirs as his
memory seems
to be somewhat
better than
many - LOL.
The Covid
shutdown gave
him the
impetus? and
he has been
very
diligent...some
might say that
Messrs
Bladwell and
Thompson would
have been
proud of him
:0). Suffice
to say that
sometime
between now
and our next
reunion in
2022 we should
have something
for you to
read. I
anticipate the
end product?
will be a
collective
effort and if
you are
interested in
contributing
your memories
let me know as
they too can
be added in.
So start
winding back
your memories
50 something
years back and
jot down some
of your
memorable
moments.
Things that
come to mind
are? your 1st
year
experiences,
the streaking
craze, out
bush
adventures,
seances,
dances, gala
days, dorm
raids, dining
room raids,
Muck up day
etc. List
could be
endless. I
have quite a
few photos as
well. I do not
envisage a
published tome
but more
something? to
be printed and
bound and left
for you to
reminisce and
perhaps left
with your
descendants to
read.
And finally,
some questions
- in 1968 who
was the Mutch
Dorm 8
prefect? We
are pretty
sure Howard
Briggs was
Dorm 7 and Mad
Dog Davidson
may have also
had one of the
three dagging
holes out the
back. And
speaking of
those two
dorms - where
was everyone
else? as those
two dorms
would have
housed a max
of 20-24 and
according to
the 1968 class
photo there
were 42 of us
so if you
include Ken,
Bill Sheridan,
Phil Young and
Bruce Adams
who were
Prefects that
year that
still leaves
at least
another dorm's
worth
somewhere.?
So, if you can
remember, can
you let me
know what Dorm
you were in
that year and
the prefect.
John
