¿ªÔÆÌåÓý?
Thanks to everyone who has replied. Interestingly the system used in
Australia is quite different to that in Europe. After a bit of research I found
an image on the German X¡¯air agent? which shows their system? housed
internally:-

I think that system is available from the factory in France so I am
currently making enquiries in that direction.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThats only the rocket, not the complete chute. It's pointing
STRAIGHT at the fuel tanks ????? Something i dont understand. The
idea with the system we use is the distance from the fuel tanks is
more than 1 meter and no chance of an accident.? There are several
ways to mount the chute but the way we use puts it right on the
cofg of the aircraft. In the back like shown on your photo would
need a lot of weight up front. 'Jonathan Webb' avia1or01@...

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý? Yes, I can see advantages and disadvantages in both systems. The idea of detonating a rocket a few cm from a plastic fuel tank is something that doesn't appeal. I believe the theory is that the rocket exhaust is contained within the tube while it is within the airframe, however I can imagine if there is any vapour at all things will end badly. ? re C of G , they don't show where the chute goes, its probably packed in a fabric holder and it may well be mounted between the wings thus balancing the Cof G with the rocket. ? There is also quite a bit of scope for C of G adjustment as currently the battery is mounted in the tail as far back as it will go. If I needed to tip the C of G forward I can simply move the battery along the fuse tube or perhaps replace it with a lithium one. ? The rocket exhaust problem is not so easily solved. Perhaps some sort of fire blanket or at least a metal deflector. Perhaps the trisk is lower than it looks as there are many aircraft with similar installations and so far despite many deployments nobody has ignited a fuel tank. ? ? regards, ? Jon ? ? ? ? Thats only the rocket, not the complete chute.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI recall working on fitting the battery in the xair F tail and getting it load tested and approved in UK. It was the only way we could achieve the C of G when fitting a heavier Verner or Rotax 912. The down side was the length, diameter and weight of battery cables required to reduce the voltage drop on starting the current hungry Verner. Take note when doing C&G calculations. If you need to bring battery forward the I'm sure I still have some keel tube battery boxes in my roof space. ( saddle bag style) Steve Sent from Samsung tablet -------- Original message --------
