HI Bill,
I broke in my Hirth today. I had a few problems with the carbs but it turned
out to be my mistake. I put the needles in after the plastic retainers! The
engine ran too rich and barfed and so on. Once I discovered the mistake and
put the needles first, all was well.
If the wind dies down for tomorrow morning I'll take up for the first time.

p.s. How's your plane working out. Got the kinks figured out yet?

My experience with the Hirth 2706 corroborates yours:
if you assume that a 582 produces 65 true BHP, I would
rate the 2706 at 59-60 only.
