You should find the static port on the instrument has ?just not been ?connected, and the static port vents into the cockpit area.
Just do not breathe too heavily! (Sorry, not one of my better jokes).

I can't find where my static port is - my pitot tube only has one hose and one port so I am guessing my plane does have a static port that is affixed to outside the aircraft?
