?
There was a handbrake kit available at one time made in
uk, it was a UK requirement by the BMAA for versions that had a pull start
rather than electric start.
That is why it is detailed in the UK Section S mod
book??(available to download on my site )
?
It was a fairly?clumsy over centre lever screwed to
the floor that pulled two extras cables fitted to the brake levers, not many
were fitted.

Standard Xair handbrake ?

Hello
Huw,
I
noted in the UK Modification Book (Revised 08/03) that Optional Modification
number 18 is a Parking Brake. In the description of the modification is this
statement:? "If you are fitting an engine with a pull start then a
parking brake kit may be purchased from Xair."
I
therefore wrote to the UK Agent, Wessex Light Aviation Co in August 2010
enquiring the availability of a Modification Kit.? This
is the reply,
"Unfortunately there are no modification kits for the brakes you have asked
about. You can do your own modifications and submit them to the BMAA but this
can be a long and difficult route to take!!!
Sorry I
cannot help further
Best
regards”
I didn't pursue this 'nice to have in
case I go to a hard runway' idea further.
Why write
that a kit was available yet on enquiry, it wasn't?? It was most
unprofessional of a company which must have been holding CAA Authorisations to
be kit providers and UK Engineering Authority.? I was very disappointed
and since that only e-mail exchange, I had nothing further to do with them,
sourcing my parts instead from the European Agent in
France.
So Huw, may I
suggest having a read of Optional Modification 18 which gives one a diagram of
how the additional brake system works and proceed from there?? I don't
remember now where I got the Modification Book as it didn't come with the
aircraft when I bought it.? You could try asking here:?
or Seamus'
site in Ireland:? ? where you
follow every X'air button until you come to a page with 4 columns of links
then in the second column, select Downloads.? The UK Mod book is in
column one there.
I hope that
helps a bit.
John
