¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI have just finished installing my Transponder and was looking for the next
improvement for my 912 X-air F. I quite fancy a BRS parachute, however I have
hit a snag. In the UK the X-air F is only certified to 450 KG, not the usual
472.5 that one finds with a parachute fitted.

It seems the importer never did the certification for a parachute fitted
aircraft.

I asked the BMAA if it was possible for an owner to fit a BRS pointing out
that it was already certified to 472.5 kg in Germany amongst others. I received
the following answer:-

regard to an increase in the maximum take off weight of the X¡¯Air Falcon, it
would require a full technical justification to demonstrate that the aircraft is
still compliant with the CAA Airworthiness Requirements BCAR Section S. Note
that other countries approve aircraft against different airworthiness codes, or
simply accept the manufactures declaration without fully validating the figures,
and therefore we are unable to accept these as a basis for approval. There is
nothing stopping the individual owner from doing this work, however without all
of the original manufacturers design data it would be very difficult. If the
importer was amenable and happy to release the data then it could be done by an
individual, however it is still a big task as it would require a full structural
justification/load testing as well as flight testing.¡±

means ¡°no¡±.

Without an increase in max weight , I would be overweight so basically this
seems to fall into the long list of safety rules that can kill you !

I am now wondering if I can register it as a light aircraft and if that's
worth the bother. I already have a LAPL? so presumably it should not make
much difference, but if its a whole load of trouble I will probably wait until I
win the lottery and then buy a Flight Design CT :o).

What is the maximum design weight of an X-air F ? What is allowed in other
countries?
