X5105 Switch on Problem

Hello All,

I recently acquired a used X5105., and so far have been unable to switch on and access any functions.

-It will not switch on , no normal power up with or without external DC supply.

-No response to hold Menu and On button.

- I have been able to access the firmware update XG Bootloader mode by pressing both up/down buttons and on button, and seems I have successfully uploaded latest 3.0 firmware.
However once loaded it does not go back to charge/standby mode as expected.
This is the only action where I have seen the screen light up.
Strangely accessing the bootloader is only possible with the internal battery, and does not work when an external dc supply is connected?

I have checked the battery charge level directly all seems OK.

So any suggestions about a possible remedy would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Steve,
? did you get in broken or did ?was it working?
? I had one with low power, the circuit boards inside use metal standoffs, which loosen. Had to remove cover screws, one spun as the brass stand-off had come off board. Reached in with hemostats to hold stand-off. ?These provide grounds
to the boards inside. If you disassemble it, be CAREFUL of the end pieces with the stand arms. There is a spring and a brass piece with hoods the leg in detente. I lost one of mine, found brass piece…spring still MIA.?

?Hope the rig is easy to repair like mine was.?

Hi JP
Thanks for the reply.
Was not working when I got it.
I suspect that although I was able to update the firmware, the battery was too low to turn on.However having now recharged it directly, I cannot access the boot loader at all .:-/
I will check the brass posts to see if there are any issues there.

Could this be another "failed firmware flash" case (initially by the previous owner)? Other posters here have advised that the flashing process can be very sensitive to both the Serial-TTL interface and the xmodem software used, flashing often produces no error but has failed in some opaque way and continues not to boot.

Are you using minicom or something on Linux?? Not going back to charge/standby is typical unless you use the Teraterm xmodem application to load firmware.

Good luck!

Hi James

Yes I have heard that some users have tried 10 or more times with apparent successful upload each time before success.

I have tried this with no luck so far.

Try loading an earlier firm wear version.? Make sure you're following the instructions for the version of the firm wear you're installing.? I don't recall all the issues I had, but I think I acquired the instructions from one site & the actual firm wear from another.? When I followed the first instructions, the radio appeared 'dead' & I thought I'd killed the radio.? I re-read & compared the instructions, followed the instructions with the second download & was successful.? I've not attempted any more recent updates.? YMMV, of course.? Good luck!? 73, Dan

Good point, Dan.? There also are two sets of instructions, versions A and B.? If your serial number is?X0300190 or higher use version B.? If lower use version A.

Steve,
?Were you able to the radio working?

Hi JP,

?

No, none of my triage attempts via the menu settings/connectors worked. I will try to tighten the standoffs as you prescribed in detail in your other email, as that path makes sense to me. A faulty ground can wreak all kinds of havoc with transmitting. Thanks.

If the Batterie of the X5105 is fully discharded, the Radio wouldnt turn on aigain. You need to charg the X5105 fully (12Hours) befor you can turn it on again.

It looks like Broken in this status but its only a safty-funktion.
