Re: X5105 Switch on Problem

If the Batterie of the X5105 is fully discharded, the Radio wouldnt turn on aigain. You need to charg the X5105 fully (12Hours) befor you can turn it on again.

It looks like Broken in this status but its only a safty-funktion.

Hi JP,

?

No, none of my triage attempts via the menu settings/connectors worked. I will try to tighten the standoffs as you prescribed in detail in your other email, as that path makes sense to me. A faulty ground can wreak all kinds of havoc with transmitting. Thanks.

Re: X5105 CW Mode Transmit Intermittent

Lou,
? I did not improve per se, I merely tightened the screws
?holding the brass standoffs with screw stick & needle nose pliers. The standoffs are knurled so easy to grip. I did need use a pair of curved hemostats to hold ?two of them still so I could remove the cover, as they were so loose it just spun without loosening. Be gentle with the really small power plugs and one other plug which I cannot recall, take pictures so you get everything oriented properly.?

Hi JP,

?

Great question! Yes, I did change the mode and key down but, quite honestly, thought that the programming of the rig would prevent output in those modes when keying the rig as the primary modulation driver is audio/mic.

?

No, I did not get power out in FM, AM, or SSB but again, thought that was the rig¡¯s logic. I am more interested in understanding how you improved the standoff grounding and may contact you off-line. Thanks for your response.

Lou,
? Have you tried switching mode to FM and keying microphone to see if it¡¯s a CW only issue? I ask only because I had similar issue & it ended up being traced to the loose brass board standoffs depriving grounds to the boards. Mine had similar symptoms and finally dropped output to zero. If you do disassemble the rig, be VERY?
careful when removing the sides with the kickstand legs.
There are tiny springs which can fly and disappear, I placed a small piece of electric tape over the spring slot to keep spring in place for all eternity.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your insights Doug. Yes, I¡¯m afraid at this point it could be internal/hardware. I was trying to eliminate all user/menu/software issues before diving into the innards.

?

I exhausted my ideas empirically for the user variables and appreciate your comment.

It sounds like it could be a temperature-sensitive solder joint on a PC board.? Or, less likely, I think, a temperature-sensitive component (resistor, capacitor, etc.)

Great job of documenting your tests, though!

X5105 CW Mode Transmit Intermittent

I have an X5105, FW Version 3.0. The latest chronic issue that has worsened with use is intermittent transmit in CW Mode. Simply put, when the unit is placed into CW Mode and a key (paddle or SK) is inserted into the jack, the unit will initially transmit fine and eventually stop. The relay does engage and the TR LED illuminates with key down, but no power out. When the unit is shutdown for about 15 minutes, it returns to transmitting for about 10 minutes, than stops. Very annoying issue.

I have checked the following items in an attempt to triage and now stumped. This issue occurs:
  1. with keying contacts measuring infinity ohms (key up) and a solid 0 ohms (key down).
  2. with antenna jack terminated into a dummy load or tuned antenna.
  3. with ATU ON or OFF.
  4. at 0.1 to 5 W output setting (Po).
  5. with internal battery fully charged or low.
  6. with external battery power.
  7. with CHARGING ON or OFF.
  8. with or without ACC jack PTT used.
  9. with or without manual use of PTT button.
  10. with or without microphone connected.
  11. independent of QSK Time delay selected.
  12. independent of key type (MAN, AUTO-L, AUTO-R).
Has anyone seen this issue? Have I missed anything? Any suggestions from the group? Thanks.

Re: X5105 ACC Port issues ?

I used my X5105 on FT8 a couple of years ago.? It worked well enough, but it did take some effort to get the cabling right, and I did have more trouble trying to get it to work with the DigiRig cable set.? Mostly seemed to be problems with drivers.

Re: X5105 ACC Port issues ?

In case anybody in the group is using the x5105 for FT8 here is my ultra portable setup using the FT8CN app for Android phones, in my case a Samsung Note 8. I was able to achieve simultaneous CAT, audio in/out, and phone charging using the usb COM cable, the ACC 8 pin din to trrs cable, trrs to trs splitter to a usb sound card (Sabrent), and two additional splitters ( 1 "Y" usb A female to usb A female) (1 "Y" usb C male to usb A female / usb C female). The phone (or tablet) must have the USB C-PD standard in order to transfer data and simultaneously charge. I'm sure I could have eliminated some of the cables with one of the digi mode units available but I had most of the components laying around except for the last splitter. Yes, it's a cable jungle but it works.

Thanks to DougVL and riushr for the cable trimming advice.? Seems to have done the trick. Took a little patience with a utility knife and a magnifier but it works now.

Yes it is a known issue on the 5105. I trimmed the plastic around the end of the connector and that solved the issue. Im using an XGG.comms interface.

Re: X5105 ACC Port issues ?

That could be the issue. It never did seat very snuggly. Thanks.

Re: X5105 ACC Port issues ?

By the way, welcome to the group!
And, I had the same problem, with the plug not quite fitting far enough into the jack.? Trimming about 1/16 inch, or maybe slightly more, off the plastic around the plug fixed it.

Plus, at one time, someone else posted a similar problem, and its cure.?? If you look through the old messages, you should be able to find one with photos of the fix.

Re: X5105 ACC Port issues ?

The X5105 is known for having slightly non-standard jacks.? The plastic around them is a bit thick, and often the plastic around the mating plug (on the cable) needs to be trimmed back a little so that the plug can seat all the way into the jack.

FM modulation transmit not on target frequency

If I set my X5105 to FM modulation, the transmit frequency is about 6.8 kHz lower as shown in the display.

For example, the Xiegu shows the frequency 29.160 MHz in the display, the real transmit frequency is around 29.1532 MHz.

All other modulations are fine.

Does anyone have the same issue??
