Re: CW Messages.

I just scanned through most of the comments here on this thread so excuse me if this came up but I was able to transmit the message by quick pushing MSG button on the bottom right, then make sure your 1 of 10 messages is listed and not blank. It will display your pre message on the bottom right. Then just push the PTT on the back side of the radio and message will play. After it transmits your message, radio returns to receive and you can PTT to replay the message again. I have not tried this with the hand mic PTT.?

I wonder if it¡¯s possible to play the message over and over with pre set time in receive between the transmits.?

Re: My battery charger for the Xiegu X5105

Thanks Doug,
I actually need to correct my question but I think you understood the question.?

I originally asked ¡°is it ok to operate the X5105 at an external power source¡±
I meant to ask if it was ok to operate the X5105 while using the MFJ3240DMP as an external power source.?

So, I received the X5105 on Saturday, the coax and a new multi band dipole came yesterday, the small 3.2oz CW paddles come on Wednesday but the MFJ power supply, not sure when that will arrive. I placed the order on Friday, called them yesterday to confirm the order and they told me ¡°they have my order, the item is in stock and should be shipped out by the end of the week¡± I was like what, the end of the week? Hi hi, like I needed it last week. Oh well. In the meantime, we are in the a snow storm here in up state New York and it¡¯s a great time to hang an antenna, I think. Lol.?

I don't know who is writing the firmware for the X5105 but I had a G90 and it took them forever to correct some crazy issues with the CW filters.
They eventually got it squared away. Seems to me that more effort is put into digital mode issues.
This particular issue is that that big a
deal to me but it took me awhile to find out what was happening.
I wish this list had more participation.

Hi Larry,?

Didn't want you to go too long without someone acknowledging your question. That is an odd behavior. I don't work CW so I will let those guys respond with something helpful.?

Won't retain some CW Bandwidth settings

Larry Naumann

I have a brand new X5105 with version 3.0 firmware.
There is a strange anomaly with the memory and bandwidth settings.
When I set the tone to 700 Hz and Lower cut off to 600 and upper cutoff to 800 the radio will not recall these settings after
a power cycle. If I set Lower cutoff to 575 and Upper cutoff to 825, the radio will remember the settings.
Kind of strange.

Re: X5105 charger type question

Thanks Brian!
I figured 30 a 30 amp power supply would not matter, the rig will only draw a max current of 3amps. I just wanted to make sure that it would also charge the internal batter too. In other words, a 3 amp or a 30 amp regulated switching power supply should not matter, so long the 13.8 voltage remains steady and constant if that¡¯s correct.?

again, thank you for responding.?

Re: X5105 charger type question

Hi Justin,

?

Yes, as the manual states any 12V, which is actually a 13.8V, source is acceptable to power and charge the X5105.

Re: Soft case for the X5105??

The PL-660 soft case fits -just!
Nothing else -just the radio.
It's what I'm using.

You may pay a bit more on Amazon but can return it if it is not right.
The case I ordered should fit just the radio with maybe a tad room to spare.
I have separate cases for all the other stuff I take on SOTA ops.

Re: Soft case for the X5105??

W0AYE/BEN

I found two cases on ebay specifically sold for the 5105, one big enough for just the radio itself and one big enough for both the radio and mic. I don't remember but I think they both ship from china.

Re: Soft case for the X5105??

I have used a canvas backpack so far.? And being a "collector of stuff that should be handy to have",? I have a small leather purse that the radio will just barely fit into.? But that fills it up - no room for the mic!? Depending on what you actually want and need, the 'principle' might work, though.? Purses made of actual? leather are a lot less common in thrift shops these days, though.? But there are a LOT of used purses in stores like our local Goodwill.

Others have earlier mentioned cases like the Pelicans and the Harbor Freight versions of them, but they're not soft cases.? A good-sized 'fanny pack' seems like it would work well, and be available somewhere.

You can use the radio without the external mike, but what do you plan to use for an antenna?? And how will you carry that, and the lead-in wire or cable?? Of course, maybe you already do portable ops with other equipment and are already set up for the accessories, and just this radio is new, replacing another one.

Has anyone found a nice soft case that fits the X5105. Mine should arrive tomorrow and I plan to use it for SOTA ops.
Any suggestions?

Thanks - I hadn't noticed that.? I haven't used my X5105 for FT8 yet, but have had the many different level adjustments when changing bands on my IC-706MkII.? Saving settings by band might help with 'any' radio.? I was leaving ALC level as the selected meter mode (instead of swr or output power) all the time.? I did, however, find and use the WSJT-X by-band level setting for "Tune" mode.

Re: AF Input Level when operating FT8

Joe K9SZ

Thanks much for the feedback, Brian.

I am wondering if the X5105 doesn¡¯t have much (if any) ALC for the ACC input? I see an AGC setting in the menu options but nothing for ALC.

WSJT-X has a feature to save the AF-Out level per band, so this must not be an uncommon issue. I have been playing with option a bit and find that I just have to tweak the settings a bit when switching bands from day to day. It is a bit touchy but not unreasonable.

For now, I¡¯ll just keep taking some notes per band.

Thanks again :-)

Cerrxian 3.5mm 4 Pole Stereo TRRS Audio Video Male to 4 Screw Terminal
Very Nice.

From experience, that would certainly be helpful for the toolbox when prototyping to ensure the connections before soldering. :-)

This is the cable I purchased and cut in half:

You may need to carve away some plastic to get it to seat all the way in the 5105.

This is exactly right. I did have to remove some of the plastic for it to seat firmly in the X5105 ACC connection. It would be better to but one that has an extended barrel if one could be found, but it wasn¡¯t too difficult.

This is the TRRS connector I purchased:

Here is the pinout for the connections.

TRRS ACC
----- -----

T (Left) <-> AF IN
R (Right) N/C
R (GND) <-> GND
S (Mic) <-> AF OUT

For future reference, and for others who also like your idea, there is also the

Cerrxian 3.5mm 4 Pole Stereo TRRS Audio Video Male to 4 Screw Terminal Female Headphone Replacement Solderless Balum Converter Adapter (2-Pack)

Price: $6.87 & FREE Shipping on orders over $25.00

There is another adapter like this, but with Female TRRS connector instead. And others, with just TRS.

This way I/we can eliminate the soldering (but it will add some bulk). In one of the comments about this connector, the buyer mentioned having trouble soldering the very fine headphone wires to the TRRS plug. Of course, the mini-DIN wires may be larger and easier to handle, but I haven't cut my cable yet, so I don't know.
