Re: Released the magic smoke.

Hi,

I could imagine the problem with switching power on while operating the divice on battery is caused by the voltage difference between the battery and the external power.

x5105 has two power sources the SE external and the SB battery
and there are two power consumer the? CR Radio and the CB battery charger

Mode 1: SB powers CR
putting on a external power supply will switch the device to
Mode 2: SE powers CR and CB

I would assume in race condition the current from SE finds its way via the radio to the SB and damages the radio.
Mmost likely the amplifier, as the old manual told not to transmit while charger is on.

Means the TX is bypassing the current control

Also :

YO3HJV has more info on his website.

It appears the VRs are different. Worth a stab anyway.?

Just a hunch: The G90 has a similar voltage regulation system. The schemos are ¡°out there,¡± maybe in the G90 group files area. You might want to check. There¡¯s a fellow in Romania ¡ªwhose call I can¡¯t remember ¡ªhas replaced the G90 VRs with better devices. So that¡¯s another take.?

Too bad Xiegu has (a) no outside repair facility & (b) a typical Maoist secretive view of providing documentation & help. I figure my two Xiegu boxes die, I¡¯ll still have the cheapo varios clones of the DL2MAN (tr)uSDX boxes toQRP with.?

Re: X5105 Schematics anyone?

Extra bit of info, i've removed the suspect 8 pin device, the high current draw has now gone, nothing gets hot, so it's definately a duff device, still no luck in finding what it is though, i'll email Xiegu support but having had dealings in the past, they were not helpful at all.

Joe, thank you for that, I did suspect they were voltage regulators of some kind as the tracks around the IC were quite thick, suggesting a reasonable current carrying capacity.
I found a photo on the fccid.io page showing the internal pcb's, it looks like a pre-production model but the interesting bit is this

Which shows two regulator sub pcb's one is 8v and the other, which is the one that gets hot in my radio is 3v3.
Just need to find out what the device is now, which is proving to be quite a challange.

Re: parts

Year some ago I bought a spare mic off Radioddity. It came direct from China, no problem?

Tony,?

To my knowledge there are no schematics available, however those square inductors would indicate that chip is a DC to DC converter device.

So, I was out portable today with the X5105, all went well, came back to the car, plugged the radio into the 12v cigar socket (as I have done a thousand times before), this time, though, the in line fuse blew immediately.
I got back home, put the X5105 on the power supply and it shuts down the 3A power supply as soon as it is plugged in.
Taking it apart, it is well out of warranty, I have traced the fault to the middle PCB labeled X5105 base board v2.01, it is dead short across the power supply.
After taking off various likely parts that would draw any kind of current i.e. rf transistors, several electrolytic caps,3 big SMD diodes, i've narrowed it down to one specific part of the pcb.
Below the Lipo battery socket is two seperate circuits, they look very similar, each has a 8 leg SMD device on , the top one of the two, if I feed the PCB with a current limited supply, after several minutes gets really hot, the bottom one does not.
I can not find what the device is, they are labeled 1A JRH, which I cannot seem to find a likely device with that package on the www.

I have circled the device in red above, if anyone can help, i'd be grateful.

Re: X5105 Issues

I have uploaded 3 versions of the X5105 factory instruction manuals - of different ages.
They are in their own directory inside the group "Files" directory or section.
Hopefully there will be the correct firmware update instructions for your radio in one of these versions of the manual.

You could also try this web site page at Radioddity, the dealer where I got my X5105.

Good luck!

X5105 Issues

Im new to the X5105 and QRP. I picked it up the other day a d a radio flea. Seems to work perfectly. Made a contact in Norway, 3349 miles with 5 watts antenna was a dipole. The issue im having is, it seems to have the original firmware. When trying to update, the docs i found says to plug in the power while holding in up/down, DATA light should come on and it does. Then, plug in the serial cable into CIV port and connect with teraterm, set port to 115200 and the hit spacebar and menu should come up. No menu ever comes up. Also when plugging in the usb cable, the display on the radio is supposed to say something about erasing the radio., This does not happen either. So i can't seem to connect to the radio. Tried multiple cables. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.? Thanks

Re: Speaker (old topic)

I knew I had kept a PDF copy of the very original User Manual (FCC copy).
Contains the following information about the speaker;
"3 line, Left and Right, machine linked"
Problem solved? :-)

Re: Speaker (old topic)

Just to be safe - plug in the speaker BEFORE you turn on the rig!

Well, it works for me.

Speaker (old topic)

It's been so long that I've been able to use a speaker , that I've forgotten!
At my daughters, alone during the day, recovering from a heart valve replacement.
Can I use a mono plug in the speaker jack WITHOUT blowing up the rig?
