Re: AM TRANSMIT DISTORTION
Hi Doug, Thank you¡ I¡¯ve tried that and no success. Tried modulation at 60 61 62 and 63 - did not improve distortion. I can see it on my spectrum analyzer and hear it on my monitor receiver - signal is unintelligible! Frustrating¡ Dale Parfitt W4OP? ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDownward modulation is not unusual for solid state? rigs on AM. I inspected the AM envelope on my spectrum analyzer with 2 tone, and it is a mess at any setting I could come up with. A trapezoid pattern? likely would not look good either, but? have not taken the time for that.\\Dale W4OP ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Joel Caulkins/N6ALT ? Re: AM TRANSMIT DISTORTION
Hi Dale,
I just conducted a test transmitting with my X5105 on 10 meter AM and found it was really distorted at the the default AM modulation level of 60, but when turned down to 45 it sounded quite clear on the internal Mic and just slightly distorted on the supplied hand Mic. My Mic gain is set at 25 for external Mic and 30 for the internal Mic. A interesting note, with modulation set at 45 I get 5 watts carrier and with added modulation the power output drops to the 4 watt range, this is the same with both Mics. Odd that. Joel N6ALT |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI have tried all of the settings for TX AM, and nothing makes it better. One would think that the AM mod and demod would all be done in SDR code. Simply multiplying Cos(Wm)t by Cos (Wc)t? yields perfect AM. Who knows how Xiegu chose to? do it though. ? Dale W4OP ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of DougVL ? Well, I have not tried AM, but the 'logical' reason would be overmodulation.
Check the manual (and adjust modulation level)- System parameter configuration ? Personalized settings can be achieved for transceiver in system settings menu to make it fit your using habit in a better way. Operation methods: 1. Press and hold [MENU] key for 1s to enter system settings menu; 2. Press [<] and [>] multi-function keys at the bottom of screen to call out the menu items you want to adjust; 3. Rotate major knob to set parameters you wanted; 4. Press [SAVE] key in a short time to save current settings and exit menu mode after setting. ?? If pressing [QUIT] key in a short key in step 4 mentioned above, new settings will not be saved and the equipment will exit menu mode of the system. ? ? Descriptions of system menu ? Menu items? AM TRANSMIT DISTORTION
Has anyone operated their x5105 on AM? Receive is fine, but Transmit is horribly distorted¡ please let me know. Tnx Howie wa3mck

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThanks Karl,I guess mine is about normal then, it just seemed that is was a bit low for a fully charged LIPo battery. Joel? N6ALT On Oct 24, 2021, at 10:14 PM, Karl Haas via groups.io <iz2222@...> wrote:

I will try harder to get my information across. That will help.? We can only know about what you actually write in your posts. Now, what program were you using when you got the error - WSJT, or something else? Is that the only error you've gotten?? If not, what others, under what conditions (software and hardware)? ? "Hamlib error: Communication bus error while getting current frequency" That might be affected by the communication data rate - try a slower (lower number" BPS setting. It could also be caused by "stray RF" or electronic noise affecting the serial communication cable - try a shorter cable, or re-route your cable to try to keep it away from any electronic noise source (maybe a digital DC power supply, or the computer itself).? If the cable is long enough, coil it up to make an RF Choke, or put snap-on ferrite beads on it.? Since you're using the XGGComms Digimode-4, you might not have much choice about length or shielding, but even wrapping the cable around a piece of steel (like a bolt) would add a little noise choking.? You also might not NEED to use Hamlib - I don't, with my X5105 or my IC-706.? But I have had comm errors, and it was from noise sources. If your error(s) happen while transmitting, that would indicate that your transmitted RF output is getting into your Digimode cable or device. When asking for troubleshooting help, try thinking of it like this - I post a message asking for help because my car won't start. It could be out of gas, but maybe the battery is dead and the starter doesn't even run.? Or I have the wrong car key! ? -? And all with that, we still started out with more information than "things don't work right." I do realize that many, many people have not had the 50 years or so of hobby and professional experience at troubleshooting, diagnosis and repairing things that I've had, so it can take a lot of "prompting" to get the information needed for' remote diagnosis' and repair. And, finally, in my case, I've only had experience so far with WSJT-X, and not other digital comm software, in the 3 years I've been using radio for digital ham radio.? I used the X5105 and FT-8 for about a month early this spring, while in Florida, and made contacts in 36 states, including Alaska and Hawaii, and about 35 countries, with it.? With my IC-706MkII at 20 watts (and 10 watts this year), I've confirmed 131 countries and 50 states with LoTW QSLs. -- Doug, K8RFT |
Re: New member - Hello
Hi Doug,
I finally had time to take a look at things. I have WSJT-T loaded and running. I have the radio hooked up to my digirig mobile interface and configured. I have the Icom-IC7100 selected in the program setup and come up with this error "Hamlib error: Communication bus error while getting current frequency" I know that I am getting close, but any changes I have made to either the radio or settings has not been successful yet. Does this error message look familiar to you?? I look forward to getting this figured out with your help so that I can get on the air. Thanks again for your help and patience. Thoughts, ideas, and information sometimes comes across in ways that I don't expect them to....? I will try harder to get my information across. 73 Jim ke8bho |
Re: how to make PTT
In addition, the old post #92 in this group has a schematic that was reported to be for the mic input circuit, but that's not guaranteed to be correct.? The diagram shows "PC board connections" type if information and does not show the mic jack connections.? It does show the wiring to the PTT switch - presumably the one on the radio.? The diagram appears to be just for a circuit board.? It might not be very helpful for the external wiring that we want to do.
