Re: transmitting ends after 12 seconds. No signal goes out.

Hi Larry!? Have you tried the internal mic to see if the same thing happens?

Re: transmitting ends after 12 seconds. No signal goes out.

And you could try cleaning the mic connector contacts, on cable and rig, with contact cleaner spray.

JP.? Thanks for replying back.? Found out, maybe , when I lift of push down of the mic connection that goes into tx, it works,? Do I need a new microphone or what. The tx light go on even there in power going through the watt meter,This is on all bands. So it has been intermitten.Would you know who sells the mic, if I need one.\?? Thanks? JP , ,

Larry,
? what band or mode? When you say transmitting ends, does the red TX light go out? Do you have a wattmeter/dummy load to view output power?

What could the problem be?? Thanks

Re: Looking for help checking functionality

Listening to that tiny speaker in the X5105 will be difficult in any case, but may be impossible from 10 or more feet away.? Have you tried headphones?

Re: Looking for help checking functionality

Also, try listening on the AM Broadcast band, 560 kHz to 1.6 mHz.? there should be plenty of signals to hear.

And because the radio is battery powered, you can take it outside, or farther away where there may be less noise, and test the radio there.? Maybe at a park, or out in the country, away from city noise.

Re: DE19

The audio settings may be incorrect, and the "transmit audio tone" is not being generated, or not reaching the radio's audio input.

No, it's not.

Do you hear any sound at all from the X5105?? Even static noise?

?"CB radio and from a few feet away it seems like the audio gets through"
What does that even mean?

DE19

I am receiving signals thru a DE19, but my X5105 does not transmit when WSJT-X is in the transmission mode.

Re: Looking for help checking functionality

Hi

Have you tried listening with the PREamp on? That's the button to the lower left of the speaker.
It can also switch on an Attenuator. Try pressing the button a few times and see how the signal changes.

Looking for help checking functionality

I bought a x5105 and it was just delivered. This is my first HF radio and I have yet to get my general.

I've been playing around with it a decent amount and I haven't been able to recieve any signals yet. So I have been trying to figure out how I can check it's functionality. I have tried tuning to some beacon stations, RTTY frequencies, etc., and have not heard anything yet.

I have a 16' random wire dipole center fed strung up on my patio... it's a concrete patio/deck about 10' up from street level and there's another smaller size deck above me. So it's definitely not ideal conditions for an antenna but at least it's outside with some decent sky exposure.

I have a CB radio and from a few feet away it seems like the audio gets through when I monitor that, although the audio quality is sketchy, and AM from 10' away is way different from USB so I'm not really convinced this means anything.

When I have the radio tune the antenna it is usually able to make an SWR around 1.2 or lower.

I'm hoping this is just because I'm around a lot of QRM but I'm a little nervous it might be busted. So I'm hoping there's something I can do to check relatively foolproofly that it's working?

Thanks

Hello
thank you to all of you for having shared your experience for this topic. In the meantime I've performed some test:

1) I utilized the X5105? few hundreds meters far? from a friend of mine who had another TRX (FT-857)? , who confirmed that my? modulation was low (meaning that the cause of low modulation noticed during QSO with others? was not a low? signal )

2) in order? to avoid boring my friend I started to make some test on my own at home using the X5105 as TX? at extremely low power? and using another TRX (FT-710)? as receiver ( 2 antennas? , positioned at opposite side of the house) and listening to myself in the headphones.? Here under the best setting I was able to obtain to have a good? modulation:

MIC/VOX menu? :? G-EXT? 40? ? ? ?G-INT 50
COMP:? ON? ?1:4? ?( I do confirm that exceeding 1:6? distorsion is detected)
EQ :? ON? ? 4db? BASS? ? ? 2 dB? MED? ? 6 b? TREB

but? most important is the position of the mike in the hand:
45¡ã? ( not vertical )? and? not too? close to the mouth? (10 cm? or more)

I did also some test with internal mike. Surprisingly is not bad at all.? ?20 cm far from mouth? is? ok

Hope the above could be of some interest.
Thanks.

Re: Any suggestion to improve modulation in SSB ?

Hi,?
when use more than 1:4 compression I got complaints too. So try to use not more than 1:4.
I opened the Mic hole a bit and filled the Mic housing with foam.?
No complaints anymore.
BTW EQ is for RX only ?

Re: Any suggestion to improve modulation in SSB ?

Maybe your audio is just too weak (quiet) and they can't hear you well.? Try increasing the mic gain.
