THE X-FILES: Cold Cases
It was sure GREAT hearing the voices of ALL of the characters from the old show again! They made this series of stories a real treat to listen to. All of the Good Guys and the Bad Guys. Even those that we had thought were dead and gone forever. --- How? = Well, THAT would be a real spoiler!
My only real complaint = The first episode was very lacking in describing what was taking place in the scene. It was like listening to a tv show without the added advantage of the picture in a very visually driven drama. = You miss a lot, and can only guess at more. -- That did seem to improve a bit as the book progressed, but I think more should have been done to carry the full story for a purely LISTENING audience.?
I will certainly be looking for more X-Files done with the original cast members!!! ? Keep It FUN! Dan G |
Re: Missing the boat- were did a great power squander a decisive technological edge?
Wow. There was a LOT of developments that got shelved over the years that could fill that list. Most purely for political (including interservice rivalry) and greed on the part of those holding the checkbooks. --- Add to this the fear of the Cold War (which still goes on) getting Very Hot over the most minor thing WITHOUT being guaranteed to be able to completely obliterate your opponent in the first round. (or coming off looking like the Bad Guy to the rest of the world, which was probably a bigger deterrent. LOL) --- Then there were also those "Gems" that were probably better off for all of us that got shelved. Like The Flying Crowbar! LOL

Re: Aliens controlling governments
Terry, I think that would depend entirely upon the goals of the Aliens themselves. = How sophisticated and powerful was the government that built those giant pyramid shaped landing pads/transmitters in ancient Egypt??? The Nazca Lines??? Etc??? --- How sophisticated and powerful the governments that helped kick off the industrial revolution to start their Xenoforming of our planet? --- How much the string of wars that brought us the nuclear age and furthered that goal? --- How much to keep the world clinging to outmoded fossil fuels, a planet locked overpopulation, a lazier violence prone drug addicted and dumbed downed but higher tech level society??? = It all depends on THEIR goals. . . . At least I HOPE it's Their's. I would Really Hate to think that WE have done this all to ourselves without someone else to blame. LOL

Re: Aliens controlling governments
LOL! Ron.
I would like to think that it is because there are more than one group of aliens trying to take control and so they tend to work at odds to each other. --- Or that's their plan. Sow utter confusion and prevent us from getting our stuff together to defend our planet from their future mass invasion. --- Or they are just getting their jollies watching the monkeys jump through their hoops while they Xenoform our planet and steal all of our guacamole. A good thing MJ-13 is still here trying to stop them! LOL Keep It FUN! Dan G |
Re: Missile Arsenal, Monogram PD40 (1958)
At least a couple that I remember. I know my uncle had and built a set (he got me interested in models LONG BEFORE I could actually build anything.) but I can't seem to find his. But here's another Monogram set. -- And, of course, there was the (and still are) the single missile/launcher kits.

Re: A great looking ship
Looks like something out of ROBOTECH. --- Went hunting and found a link to YF-35 Warthog VGF (for Poser). The gallery looks FANTASTIC! --- But I'm confused???? = They talk about "Over 75 Points of Articulation on the main figure!" and "Comes in 3 fully rigged variants", etc, etc, like its an (Old School) plastic Model. But for "$20.00" and everything else I'm seeing, it sounds more like just a CGI program addon for a computer game or something. ??? Or is this a 3D printer program??? = Sometimes I really hate being from the Stone Age! LOL

Right off hand I would say Korea and Viet Nam ... we squandered the ability to stop and win?either war and got countless people killed because of "Political correctness" ... Ron On Wed, Oct 10, 2018 at 9:58 PM Terry Sofian via Groups.Io <tsofian=[email protected]> wrote:

Missing the boat- were did a great power squander a decisive technological edge?
I'm wondering at what times since 1914 has a nation had a chance to field a weapon system or systems and an effective set of doctrine to produce a situation in which they gain or maintain a decisive technological edge leading to an operational or strategic one. Three instances come to mind. The first was the rapid abandonment of mass offensive torpedo strikes by royal navy carrier aircraft. True they were never able to actually perform such a mission in the war but they were po pretty darned close with the Sopwith Cookoo The second is the death of effective armored warfare by the British army in the 1930s. Finally is the ability of the USAF to deploy unmanned aircraft to penetrate as nd disable soviet air defense systems in the mid to late 1970s. Any other examples? |
