Re: travel'in
IMO, One of the greatest problems with ALL of the branches of "science" are their overwhelming propensity for "Rut Thinking". -- Example = For how many decades did everyone insist that dinosaurs must be slow, cold blooded and could only move around if half buoyed up by water? WHY? Simply because ~ someone ~ who became The Authority on the subject said THAT was the way it was. And the Sheeple went Baaaa-YES SIR!?
Dare to think Outside Of The Box and you get ostracized and stuffed into the Nutter Corner with the UFOlogy, perpetual motion, eternal battery, alternative fuels, etc, etc, etc (It's a Very Crowded Corner!) with no access to research funding because the Sheeple are sure to get you blacklisted with all of their deep pocket, checkbook wielding sugar daddies. And contrary to all of the Tekno-Geek myths and fairytales the likelihood of your Very Real groundbreaking original invention or innovation actually gaining notoriety by a wealthy patron through a GoFundMe site are pretty much just that. Myths and Fairytales. = So, ya want to eat? Ya go join the rest of the flock in The Rut. (While secretly joining the millions of other Tekno-Geeks who have sent off resumes to Musk for a crack at working at SpaceX. = Yeah, better off counting on winning the next Powerball Lotto!) Think about this = Within THREE DECADES we went from the first Jet Planes to a man actually WALKING ON THE MOON!!! and we did it with very primitive equipment that was basically cobbled together using blackboards and slide-rules.? So then why is it that in the decades since we have been reduced to hitching rides from the Russians just like the rest of the space programless world??? = IMO = Because we have substituted THE QUEST FOR KNOWLEDGE & HIGHER GOALS for The Quest For The Almighty Buck. --- And The Buck locks everything very firmly into The Rut. = No Profit -- No Motivation To Change -- No Progress.? If you or I want to see better, more practical, less wasteful energy systems, . . . Then we better have a way for Big Money to make even more profits than they currently do with the junk they keep shoving off on us. If you or I want to see an FTL so that Man can reach the stars . . . Then we better make damn sure that there are aliens on the other end with plenty of ready cash and who are even bigger suckers than we are. Keep It FUN! Dan G |

I just got through watching a TV show about space and travel and other civilizations and it hit me ... what the real problem with figuring out how to travel the universe is the way the so called experts think. Everything they seem to work at comes out of a "can" at the local college. It's the same old stuff pumped out by the same old teachers year after year after year. For instance ... in the show they talked about how much energy the sun put out and how we used so little of it and showed one of those great big solar array setups and talked about how me need hundreds more or even more than that. Was anything said about a better way to collect solar energy - no.?Ironic when even a not very educated person like me knows how the solar panels we have are very?ineffective. Nuclear energy ... man it doesn't take a college graduate to know that most of the energy produced by nuclear reaction is still wasted as heat ... look at the cooling towers at any energy plant and tell me there isn't a ton of wasted heat being vented to the atmosphere without it being used. They talked about us finding other civilizations by the "waste energy - heat" that is produced by them?... but I have to wonder if there are more advanced civilizations out there way would they have wasted energy in the form of heat. We do, but our civilization isn't anywhere near as advanced as the so called experts seem to think it is in my book. Am I really all that wrong or am I just taking the whole?of the idea's the?"experts" are pushing?to serious? Ron |

I know you'll find this weird but the truth is when it comes to traveling though the universe and beyond I don't believe we have found or are even working on a real solution to a propulsion system yet that will really get the job done. Were still taking baby steps and have a whole lot of growing up to do. Ron |
Re: Braking A Nuclear Thrust Driven Spacecraft
This might not be an issue. There will be very little for a ship to fly though. In an Orion yes a bomb detonates in your path but the shield is still there. I got a headache trying to do all that reading ... LOL? Honestly kind of interesting but way past anything I would really understand. Get past a Boss 429 engine with 2/4bbl carbs and/or a blower and I'm lost. :-) Ron On Sun, Oct 21, 2018 at 11:59 AM Dan G via Groups.Io <Grauwulf=[email protected]> wrote: LOL Ron! -- Yeah, I've also looked into various forms of "Spacesails" over the years. Oh you kids, just want to hot rod all over the universe ... Mylar sail, that's the way to go ... cryogenic sleep while traveling ... you'll get where your going in a blink or two of the eye and do it so the universal greenie huggers?won't complain a bit.? When you get where your going just pop the chute in the tail and by the time your thawed out your sitting pretty -?right where you wanted to be. I lernt that in college ... :-) Ron |
Braking A Nuclear Thrust Driven Spacecraft
Since the dawn of the Atomic Age writers and scientists have been tinkering around with the idea of using nuclear reactions in some form or another to push spaceships far beyond the bounds of conventional rocket motors. Even NASA is kicking this idea around again (all while still trying to keep on the good side of the "No Nukes, Is The ONLY Good Nukes" crowd. = Good Luck with THAT! LOL)?That's all well and good by me. Even some of the very earliest and scariest ideas were still workable. . . . But (yeah. I've always got a "but".) . . . They would all work great on the Outbound Flight --- But, what happens when you've reached maximum speed at or near the halfway point and you flip the ship to begin deceleration to keep from zipping pass your target??? Wouldn't your ship then have to travel through its own radioactive thrust??? --- Yeah, I know a lot of it would be expanding away from your ship at the speed of light, but it just seems to me that there would be a heck of a lot of charged particles still present (no matter what system you employ) for your ship to have to go racing through. Far more than found in "normal" space or that your ship and crew would have to endure on the journey out. = That would seem to require a lot of additional shielding of some form or another. = I can't seem to find anything from any of those scientists or s-f writers about this. Now or from the past. = ??? Thoughts???
One idea I had was a large water "balloon" or two. --- Yeah, go ahead and laugh! --- But a shield of water or ice contained within a collapsible bag held at the rear while decelerating and at the bow while accelerating would both protect your ship from your own exhaust but also larger particles in your flight path. The water/ice could even be used as part of your fuel. And since water is fairly easy to come by in planetary systems, ~ easy ~ to replace. . . . Yeah, I know. It wouldn't look Star Wars COOL, (more like an Interplanetary/stellar Flying Dumbbell.) but it ~ could ~ work! What Do YOU ALL Think??? Keep It FUN! Dan G |
Re: US airman who claimed he saw top secret NASA photos of alien structures on the moon dies in horror bike crash
Considering our current "News" media. = The SUN is about as reliable as any other IMO. = Agent "K" Recommended & Approved! LOL
? But I do gotta agree with this =??"How can you tell a UFO insider is telling the truth? They die unexpectedly."? --- But I would have expected something like that to have happened some seventeen years ago. = Sorta leads one to suspect that he was actually another MJ-12 Disinformation Pedler. --- OR, that he was about to release some new more damning proof??? = Conspiracies within conspiracies??? === TRUST NO ONE! ;-)? Keep It FUN! Dan G |
Re: Very clever fusion of Space 1999 and OTL
Now THAT'S my idea of Atompunk!!!
I like his Gemini Saturn Probe and Dynasoar as well!!! VERY NICE! But wish that they were 1/72 scale. (not that I have much time for that nowadays, but winter is coming!) Nice to see someone else remembers some of the amazing potential programs thought up for Gemini. (my favorites!) --- Yeah, okay, ~ maybe ~ the Panel Fighter is a bit out there.(LOL) But a heavily armed BLUE GEMINI (or even one with his interplanetary upgrades) would not go remiss from that lineup! Or some of the X-15 Variants. Or ORION. Wouldn't mind seeing what the Soviets would have up there as well. . . . Yeah, I'm just NEVER satisfied. LOL Some details on these craft would sure be nice! So, What Is this NASC??? An Atomic Age space wargame??? --- A Google search yields nothing much of interest. = ???? (Just in case you missed the Blue Gemini) ? Keep It FUN! Dan G |
