I’ve inherited a W&W D9 from my mother-in-law. ?This is the treadle version still in the original tiger oak seven drawer table. It’s pretty beat, but it is still VERY cool.
?
i just downloaded the manual and need to learn how to take the bobbin out. ?Some of the accessories and one needle were left in the drawers. ?The belt for the treadle drive is just shot, in pieces due to age and non-use. ?Won’t be able to play with it right away because we are trying to move, but I cleaned surface crud and packed/wrapped it to stay safe in the meantime.?
Does anyone know of a good place to buy replacement treadle belts?
?
I’m currently in Texas, but moving back to Florida. ?Here are some pictures:

If you enter Singer leather treadle belt on the web you will find there are many sites available to choose from. ?They are cut to fit for length and the belt ends are connected together with a small metal clip included with the belt. It is an easy process to complete.
I attached pictures of my Singer 9W which has one of those new belts installed. ?The D9 became the 9W after Singer bought the Wheeler and Wilson company. ?Note how similar both of the 7 drawer cabinets are in your pictures. ? Though they most likely came from different cabinet manufacturers they are very similar but, the treadles are very different.

Thank you very much! I appreciate it. I did notice the difference in tables, I also saw a W&W that had its name in the wrought iron base, which mine does not. I can’t wait to get it set up in my new sewing room, whenever we can finally get out of here! ??

You may also want to try out a rubber treadle belt, I found a supplier on Etsy.? Also, if you’ve not yet found a source for needles… I use size MY1014 needles in my WW9 and WW8. You can get these in batches of 100 from a couple sources. I’ve used Diamond Needle Supply and also ordered directly from Schmetz. Thread Exchange sells in smaller quantities, or you may find some on eBay.
Happy sewing, the WW’s are great little machines!

Thank you very much! ?I’ll check those all out!

What is the serial number on your machine, ?mine is 3146417. ?It seems so ironic we have such similar tiger oak 7 drawer cabinets yet they are supposedly from two different manufacturers. Even the drawer front decorations are the same. ? I see both of our machines have the same cast iron side frames and metal wheels, another anomaly.

Here’s another photo of the throat plate:
It definitely says that it is a Wheeler & Wilson, last patent date listed appears to be Aug 2nd 92. ?It also clearly stated that is is a D9.?

I actually thought the wheels on my table were some kind of porcelain or enamel covered or something. ???♀?

The wheels as they appear in your picture are metal. ?If you look closely, you will see each wheel is connected to the vertical side frames by a riveted head pin if they are the same as on my machine. ?They do roll or revolve but not very well, my guess is they are also cast iron like so much of the machine parts were back then.
BTW what is the serial number on your machine…

I sent a message previous to the one about the wheels with the serial, a copy of the picture of the throat plate and a note that the last patent date listed on the throat plate is Aug 2nd 92.

I haven't had a chance to look at your pictures, but they could be porcelain. I had a New Family MOP treadle with porcelain wheels.

It is likely that your machine was built in 1902 plus or minus 1 year.

Some information I collected over the years is that Serial numbers 3,000,000 and above were manufactured by Singer.
as Singer purchased W&W in 1905, they continued to sell the machines marked as W&W for a couple of years prior to
modifying the bed to fit Singer cabinets. Machines made by Singer usually have Singer part numbers on some or most of the parts
while the W&W machines do not have part numbers.

Mine is really similar to this, same type of cabinet. I don't have pictures of the whole thing yet, but one of the throat piece. It looks like the number is 2998657
|
Looks like yours is about 25000 newer than mine. ?

The plastic tubing can be purchased at hardware stores, by the foot,?and?even at pet stores. ??In the Fish tank section you will find aquarium pump air hose material. That’s what you need. You just need to make sure to measure the treadle belt groove?to make sure you purchase the correct diameter.??If you’re interested in trying the tubing,?do a search here in the messages for further information. Or do a Google search.?
