belt removal on W&W no.3

So, I recently got a W&W no.3 (1872), and it has a brand new
leather belt on it. Which is awesome. But I'd like to pull
the machine head out, to do some cleaning. Is there a way
to remove the head without cutting the belt?

Paul, don¡¯t believe there¡¯s a way to get the head out of the cabinet without cutting the belt. Can you just cut the stitching at the joint of the belt?

Regards,
John

Is it stitched or stapled??

Certainly. But that's what I was hoping to avoid -- it was so neatly
stitched, and I'm sure I won't do such a good job restitching. :-)
I wanted to be sure I wasn't missing something obvious.

I'll do some other projects in the meantime, and get to know the
machine, before cutting it. It occurs to me that I also want to be
absolutely sure it doesn't need tightening -- it'd be a shame to
re-attach it only to find I should have removed a bit first!

Don't worry about cutting the stitching. Usually when you put a new belt you cut it at least a half a inch short because the belt is going to stretch and you need that room.? So much of the #3 can be cleaned by just removing parts. Pretty straight forward. The only time I have removed a head was to clean and care for the cabinet.??
