Excelsior Supply Company

Bill Wells

Some time ago I saw the images posted by someone of D9 parts in an Excelsior Supply Company catalog.? Does anyone know who owns this catalog?? I would like to contact the owner. Thanks

I have the Excelsior catalog.? In Photos the schemmatics are under "Wheeler & Wilson schematics 8, 9, D9, D12".?

Jon

Thanks Jon.? After I posted I located a copy at a university and they are providing high resolution scans of all the pages referencing W&W machines.? The Catalog No. 35 is dated about 1905.? The president of the company, who's name is on the catalog as "manager" died in 1909.? There are other references to patents from 1905.? So, the best guess is circa 1905.?

I? have also received the 120-page 1905 W&W catalog from the Smithsonian.? The people I have been working with have been super in their assistance.? Once I get the 120-page catalog cleaned up I will post it online.?

Many thanks to Bill and others in regard to sharing the digital files, when available. I look forward to seeing what I can learn about my bare little model 8 that I got cheap from a charity shop. I know very little but I think it's just wonderful anyway, missing parts and all.?

The 120-page catalog does not have individual machine parts. It is a product catalog with some attachments and such.? I bet the Smithsonian will publish the W&W catalog with their other copies.?? I would still be interested in finding original W&W parts lists.

I recommend using the Singer 9w parts catalog for the present.? It is a difficult document because it appears to have poorly photocopied and did not make a good digital representation.? I am in the process of transcribing the Singer 9w parts list with some improvements.? I am photographing the parts and exchanging them for the 19th Century illustrations. The document will also be searchable.?? To make things worse, or better, I am adding appendix sheets that show the same parts of a different design.? I am using the same Singer numbers to make searching these parts easier.? One appendix will show the same screws and other parts on different assemblies.? I have not gone into other machines to see if the same parts were used in them but I have seen some.? Why make new parts when the older ones worked?

So far, the work has been tedious but I am enjoying the accomplishment.? I am hoping the work will make parts identification easier for everyone.?

Bill, I have a physical copy of Excelsior General Supplies Company catalog No. 40 I can't find a date.

I also have Brewer 51st Edition
Free Sweing Machine Master Catalog 2-B with price list 1949 and 1950 price slip.

The copies I have are from Catalog No. 35.? I calculated it to be about 1905 because that is the last date mentioned and I checked and the President of Excelsior died in July 1909 (fairly early in his fifties).

Catalogue No. 40 may have had the Singer 9w1 and 9w7 machines.? Could you check and see if the embroidery attachment, by Singer, is illustrated?? This attachment was patented in 1915.? The Singer Parts List for the 9w1, Form No. 1034 dated February 10, 1915, was revised in 1921.?

I am not certain what the Brewer Edition would show.? I've not seen it.

Wow! Thank you, Bill. That¡¯s great. And, a lot of work. I have most of a 12W100 and would contribute any useful information for that to you for the database you are compiling. I¡¯ve acquired?almost?all the parts now. ?
