Re: New Singer 9w1 and 9w7 Book
Mary,? I suppose you mean the variations of the W&W machines, No. 9, D9, 9w1 and 9w7.? In short, no, I did not include photos of the machines because outwardly they are nearly identical.?
What I did do is include variants of parts and I do show images of determining the differences of the No. 9 and D9 machines as well as the few differences of the 9w7.? The 9w1 is identical to the D9. The base document is a rehabilitation of the 1919 Singer Parts List.? If you have ever seen the copy circulating on the internet you will see why I did this. It is nearly illegible in text and imagery.? I included parts lists in numerical and alphabetical forms - something not in the original.? The original book was some 30+ pages.? Mine is 153 pages with some color images. I hope this answers your questions. Have a good day.

I have improved the illustrations by photographing original parts or computer reworking other images.? I also added more information at appropriate places including variants of attachments and other part. Added also are previously non-existent numerical and alphabetical listing of the parts. I believe the 153-page book will be helpful of all? people interested in the Singer and W&W versions.? It is on Amazon and available on Kindle and in paperback. ?

New Singer 9w1 and 9w7 Book
I would like to announce that I self-published a reworking of the 1919 Singer 9w1 and 9w7 Parts List. These parts are nearly all compatible with the W&W 9 and D9 machines from which Singer cloned.

Interested in those W&W #12 bobbins. PM sent!?
|
I am a vintage Singer collector/hoarder and in a recent acquisition?found two unusual bobbins. My research led me here and looking at the helpful bobbin comparison document on this forum? I think they are for a Wheeler and Wilson 12 machine.
I would like to get them to a good home(s).?
I am in central Illinois and looking for a Singer 301 at the moment. So working out a deal that would re-home a 301 with me or a contribution to my 301 fund, while helping out someone with a W&W 12 would be ideal.

I'd love an English one! If nothing else because it'd be different. I don't want 3 exact versions of the same machine, so knowing this I'll look more at the English ones that are available. Thank you!?
A D8 would be wonderful, but the bobbin prices are insane.?
The 1908 Singer 66k on the dining table MUST be a factory refurbish The condition is fantastic
A friend of mine is a mechanical engineer. When my husband and I married he presented with a wedding gift of a completely restored a rusted and heavily water damaged 1927 White in a Martha Washington table. It's mint. He took every piece back to bare metal. Repainted. Replated. All new electrical. He's also a carpenter, so he restored the table, too. Nothing was done halfway. I wouldn't do this to a rare machine, but a White FR is pretty common. So maybe yours was once in the hands of someone like that??
TIP some of the oil holes under the bed took oil BUT there were clogged with vanish so no lubrication, I always poke in them with a copper wire or a paperclip a soft metal to make sure oil get to the moving parts.
Excellent tip. I pop a toothpick into each oil hole both to check for clogs and to keep any products I'm using from clogging them.?
Thank you for sharing your collection - it's beautiful! I'm trying to keep my machines in 2 rooms of our home. I currently have 4 treadles (3 with machines), 6 electrics in tables, 3 that need treadles, 1 handcrank, and 3 electrics in cases. The treadle without machine will be (gently) converted into a universal table for a variety of machines. That's the only way I can bring in more treadle machines without adding tables.?
At least, that's what I keep telling myself. ??
Btw, I have a friend who is trying to recreate the D9 bagel bobbin with her 3D printer. I know attempts have been made before, but results seem to be mediocre. I'm not a fan of non-metal bobbins, but as this bobbin case is fairly forgiving, I'll give it a workout to test it. If successful, she'll give away the 3D printer file.?
And if this all works, I'll invest in a D8 bobbin and see if she can take a crack at it.?

I brought to Iowa a Singer 9W with a special needlebar that has an adapter for Low Shank presser feet.
I have heard of this adapter, and that it's rare. Saw a guy on YouTube with one. I was planning on find a local machinist to see if they're up to a trying to make something different. I have one for my 66 (replacement boot for the needle bar, so not so much an adapter) and it works perfectly.?
But, I have feet for my 9W, so it's not a pressing issue atm (pun wasn't intended, but it can stay). ??
?hand wheel moving counter clockwise which the machine does not like and makes a loud clicking sound. I remind them to treadle so the hand wheel turns clockwise.
I've noticed (of course) that my 9W treadles with the fly wheel going clockwise. I assumed that was a W&W thing, too.? Since not all 9Ws have the same percentage of W&W in them, I'm curious if any of them that are "more Singer" internally go anti-clockwise??

The Singer 9Ws are Wheeler & Wilson sewing machines with a domestic Singer sized bed. I own at least five of them plus several 9s and D9s, three 8s, 3 curved needle machines. Two of my D9s are hand cranks. Singer used W&W parts to build machines until the "in stock" parts ran out. I admit to being envious of W&W8 hand cranks.
Additionally, I have a 10W (I don't remember the sub model) that must have been dropped as the take up bar has a replacement? tip welded onto the original lever. I do not know whether the hand crank is original.?
I also have a 12W102 that I use in a Singer 31-15 treadle. The machine base is a bit to narrow, but it does work.?
I brought to Iowa a Singer 9W with a special needlebar that has an adapter for Low Shank presser feet. This adapter does not fit on my any of my other W&W machines. This machine was found in Upstate NY by Ray Slow Sew Waganka from WeFixIt. Treadlers who see the low shank presser foot try to treadle with the hand wheel moving counter clockwise which the machine does not like and makes a loud clicking sound. I remind them to treadle so the hand wheel turns clockwise.
Several years ago, I obtained an 1890 Jones Spool treadle in a lovely walnut case. The decals are lovely. This machine uses different needles from the W&Ws. It resembles a W&WD9 with a "fat pony" shoulder. Also, the band wheel is fastened in place with a cotter pin.?
?It was not the house size. It was the economy. Research has shown that European hand cranks were popular in poorer countries as they cost less. The Germans and the Americans had more money available and purchased treadles. Perhaps I read this on the Needlebar site.?
