Help identifying mystery bolts after carb rebuild
2
Hi everyone, I was hoping someone could help me two mystery bolts that I have leftover from a recent carb rebuild. I was very diligent last time I did this and had no problem but for some reason this time I might have been in a rush so probably didn¡¯t label the little bag that I store my parts during taking them off during the rebuilt. Here is what I was left over with. Pretty sure the ones on the left are the bolts for the electrical panel after replacing the battery. Now the ones on the right, I am struggling to find their home. They are 10mm just like the ones on the left so I don¡¯t think they are the ones to attach the air cleaner housing show as A in the pic below as they are 8mm if I am not mistaken. The bag that I put them in was labeled Air Cleaner Housing Bolts (A), but that didn¡¯t help me since I originally thought they were the right bolts for the bolts show as A in the service manual below. So unless I switched the bags and added the bolts for ¡°A¡± in the pic from the service manual into a bag labeled ¡° Air Holder Bolts¡± when they should have been in the bag that these darker ones ended up in called ¡°Air Cleaner Housing Bolts (A)¡±. I am open to any suggestions as needles to say I am ready to ride again and this is driving me nuts (and bolts!) Thanks in advance for helping my old brain figure this out! Cheers Paul

Carb rebuild again?
8
My carbs were rebuilt around two years ago. Oil or gas residue seems to be seeping out of somewhere and is on the boot and some surrounding hardware. Can't imagine the carbs needing another rebuild as fuel hasn't sat in it for more than a couple of weeks at a time (year-round commuter). Ideas?

Possibly damage repaired swingarm
4
Hi everyone, I've been trying to find a swingarm for my W and came across one which looks to have had some sort of repair as there is an odd horizontal weld line. It has come off of a w800 but an early one with the drum rear so should fit. Can anyone shed some light on what is highlighted in the below images? Thanks in advance, J

Found! Re: Where are the ¡°Files?¡±
OK, the first three times I hit ¡°Menu¡± nothing showed but I see the Files in a sidebar popup now. Along with a bunch of things of which I know naught, e.g., ¡°hashtags.¡± What is a hashtag and how would we use one? Ruari Victoria BC

Where are the ¡°Files?¡±
The many informative ¡°How to¡± files, folders with all kinds of info on the W650, sound clips and results of dyno tests, patterns for stickers, that used to be called, ¡°Files?¡± I don¡¯t see them and can¡¯t find any of it. They used to be here on groups.io. Where are they? Ruari Victoria BC

Header rattle?
8
Hi crew, So...I am fairly certain my left front header rattles? It could have been amplified based on my parking in an empty, wide loading dock but def heard something from that area. Not motor, tranny, valvetrain noise. Bike still rides like a champ but any experience with this? I am simply guessing a worn out gasket/damper or worst case, the inner pipe of the double -walled header de-tatched somehow? Ugh. Does this happen in your experience? Makes sense to me, age, vibration, heat. Thanks! Will double check all fasteners later. Have a trusted shop down the street in easy accessible, safe route area so if it needs a weld....

Low idle, uuah?
11
Hi all, My Dub continues running like a champ (knock on wood) but the last day or two I noticed a change. After adhering to the usual starting protocol, once reaching operating temp and fully moving the enrichner slide back in my idle RPMs are uncomfortably low; 600-800 area. Didn't know it could idle that low! So, no struggles at highway speeds nor stalling or any 'hunting' for idle but the correct idle on mine was always 900-1,000 like clockwork. I know about the magic black idle speed knob but gently turning it clockwise to raise idle RPM has yielded nothing and it only turns very little. I did not see anything binding it and sprayed with lubricant. I don't wanna force it for fear of breaking it. Bike easily kicks over and runs well and a 'quick fix' is simply leaving the enrichment slide out slightly to ensure no low RPM at idle, but we all know this solves nothing. Thoughts? We know not plugged pilot jets because of easy starts and it does idle and no stalling. Not main jets because it does it's normal routine in 3rd gear 4800rpm at 65mph I believe, no odd noises. Thanks everyone! Disclaimer; ridden daily but due to new area it has to hop right on the highway after a block, this not reaching full operating temp until I basically reach the destination of a mere 7+ miles one way!

Leaking fuel after storage. Stuck Floats?
9
I pulled the (new to me last season) 2000 W650 out of storage. I had drained the bowls before I put it away. -- I know this hadn't been done for years, and the bike needs the choke on warm-up, which (given other threads) seems to be a common issue perhaps related to carbs overdue for a cleaning. Pulled it out, left the petcock on prime for a minute (or two) while checking other things. Carbs overfilled and gas started spilling from the overflow tube connected to the plastic T that runs between them. I turned the petcock to "run," drained the bowls, gave them a tap with a screwdriver handle, but when I crank the engine they continue to overfill and spill gas from the overflow tube. A: The bike is new to me and I'm not familiar with the "prime" function on the carbs. Did I bring this on myself? B: Is there anything else I can/should try before I resort to pull/clean the carbs hoping that the floats/seats were just hung up on a bit of sediment? I know it hasn't been done in years, but. . . this bike is half the age of the rest of the stable and it's a discouraging start to the season.

Have you changed front Springs on the W?
28
It's too soft up front. So annoying that it drops each time I shift or brake. I have found these: https://japan.webike.net/products/2071519.html Is it a matter of removing the old springs and dropping these in or is there more to it? People are talking about emulators, is it necessary?

Low idle, uuah? How to remove idle mixture adjustment screw caps
11
There is the black idle speed knob; and then there are the idle mixture adjustment screws underneath each carb which come sealed with a glued-in aluminum round cap from the factory. If you search the ¡°Files¡± at this group¡¯s website you¡¯ll find a detailed explanation I uploaded years ago of how I removed the caps without having to take the carbs off. Ruari

high pipes

Hey Pat, both those bikes look amazing! Have been considering those high pipe's for a while. How's the sound? I'm looking for louder without being obnoxious. Right now I have obnoxious ? Apart from fitment, no adjustments or Re jetting?

Scored some OEM mufflers
5
So...always smart to be proactive with bike parts because we all know, it's never a case of 'if' but 'when'. Noted my nice condition mounted mufflers had a very small 'trouble spot ' on the balance pipe/connection. Before anyone makes me panic further, the running conditions have not changed a bit! Nor has the exhaust note. Been keeping things extra clean and ACF50 anti corrision spray continues working wonders. A pal in the FB W crew offered the pictured mufflers to me for....$200!? Yes, please! So, the attached is my efforts cleaning up with Simple Green(properly diluted etc), kerosene(I'm so late to learning about its cleaning powers) fine and extra fine steel wool, Simichrome and ACF50. I'd like to think they look pretty good. I know mufflers can be sourced from Webbike Japan but some buyers said they got hit with expensive customs fees. They said Posh is a good brand with nice construction but we all know nothing beats the fitment of OEM. Anyone wanna comment about the quality of any aftermarket mufflers and their fitment experiences? Thanks!
