Re: LH Exhaust pipe crack

Re: Speaking of forks...

My 2001 had only 8k miles. I used 10w fork oil , added 7-16th flat washers to each fork compressing stock springs about 3/4". Rides fine...I wieght 200 lbs.

Also "Death Wobble" is really tyre/pressure sensitive - I also added a fork Brace - spendy but worth every penny.

Before - OEM tyres needing pressure - I'm going to die!
After frork brace and valve spring - weird scrambler tyres - 160k (indicated) bloody great this!!
Also added fairing - unusual japanese (webike one made of canvas) - looks OK, increases top end super impressed for about $100

I have progressive springs :-/? My friends pushed down on my front end and it just went down with no work. Just bouncy. Also not able to ride over 65mph, otherwise death wobble comes on fast. The forks were rebuilt by a shop, progressive springs added.. and still no improvement.

The side stand should not come into contact with the exhaust.? ?However the attached? hoop wire that provides a foot connection lever may well have been bent.?

Allan - yes it does swing up and meets the pipe. ?I wonder if it is bent somehow? ?

Re: Speaking of forks...

I upped the oil as you have and applied an old trick of placing valve springs from a car on top of the existing fork spring - instant progressive springs for the princely sum of $0?
If you want to get fancy you can swap out springs from different cars high or lower engine performance to make it bespoke lol. Course they may be stuffed if you get them from a scrap yard but for this application its not a biggie - checking they are the same height with a steel rule on top and bina ny shorter?ones will do.

Switched to heavier because there was almost no resistance compressing forks ahead of oil change. They just bounce. I swear my last W was much more firm. Trying anything I can

Re: LH Exhaust pipe crack

Your sidestand?should?not be contacting the pipe.? If it is, that's a problem.

Is this with the springs not installed?? The OEM damper rod will slow movement, particularly rebound—that’s what the damper rod is for. Now if you’ve put the springs back in and there’s no resistance to compression . . . . well, that would be a problem!?

Speaking of forks...

Forks drained and filled with the right amount of fluid, but while expanding and contacting the fork to get the air bubbles out, I found there is almost no resistance when compressing the fork and there is plenty when expanding it. Is this normal?? 15w Motul fork oil and the forks were rebuilt only a couple of years ago.

Corns for drinking, not internal combustion engines

Hi Vince -

Thanks for the reply! ?I do recall your other thread - I referenced it in my first post above. ?The “jostling” bits are at the bottom of the fork tube, not the top. ?92093 is the dust seal that covers the transition point between the fork tube and slider - it hides beneath the fork gaiter. ?This is not the same part at all. ?Look back at my first post above, there’s two photos and a link to a short youtube video I posted to demonstrate the parts and how they move about inside the tube… they aren’t shown on any parts diagram that I’ve found, which makes me assume that they’re not serviceable…

Hi Matthew,
you may recall my previous post ?fork oil stink‘. ?My fork bushings were in very good shape and didn’t need replacement. ?However, I’ll bet dollars to doughnuts that a previous owner did and subsequently didn’t ride the bike much after that, so the bike sat unused. ?

regarding the concentric ring jostling around at the top of the fork tube… that is likely a ‘dust cover’. ?

If you have the Kawasaki parts catalog (free digital copy on the advrider W650 thread), look at section F6, page 44. ?You’ll see a diagram of the forks taken apart and parts labeled. ?The part you are referencing appears to be 92093 92093-1510 SEAL,FORKOUTER TUBE. It should be snug and not move around. ?I’ll try to post a picture if I can remember how.
