Re: kick start return spring
Judd,
?
Parts 290, 92081, 600 and possibly 9209 is what your kicker is missing.? It's a ball bearing that is held tight against the spindle the kicker rotates on.? When you turn the kicker into the bike the ball bearing gets pushed into a little hole and that holds the kicker in place.? The screw (290) probably came loose on yours so there is no pressure against the spindle.? Hope this is helpful to you.

kick start return spring
Hey everyone,?
so ive had my 99 for almost 10 years, and while everything works great, the kickstart mechanism seems to be missing the return spring. by that, i dont mean the internal return spring, i mean, the return spring which would snap the kickstart arm back into position tucked in close to the engine. if i lean the bike over to the right, the kickstart arm just flops out into the kicking position, and it otherwise while riding just stays more or less where its supposed to be by the grace of god.?
its always been this way, and ive had oodles of other bikes with kickstarts which? return the kicker to its little snug place tucked in by the engine where its supposed to live. its not a huge problem, but i cant even seem to find in the spare parts catalogue the bit im looking for. also, theres no obvious place where such a return spring would be mounted, its possible something was sheared off or i dont know.
can someone post a real good close up of what i am talking about? i cant find any detailed pics online.
thanks in advance!?

Re: Speaking of forks...
My 2001 had only 8k miles. I used 10w fork oil , added 7-16th flat washers to each fork compressing stock springs about 3/4". Rides fine...I wieght 200 lbs. On Wed, May 7, 2025, 10:04?PM Ding via <vocationalassessment=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Speaking of forks...
Also "Death Wobble" is really tyre/pressure sensitive - I also added a fork Brace - spendy but worth every penny. Before - OEM tyres needing pressure - I'm going to die! After frork brace and valve spring - weird scrambler tyres - 160k (indicated) bloody great this!! Also added fairing - unusual japanese (webike one made of canvas) - looks OK, increases top end super impressed for about $100 Ding On Thu, 8 May 2025 at 13:43, drewwils via <drewwils=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Speaking of forks...
I have progressive springs :-/? My friends pushed down on my front end and it just went down with no work. Just bouncy. Also not able to ride over 65mph, otherwise death wobble comes on fast. The forks were rebuilt by a shop, progressive springs added.. and still no improvement. |
Re: Speaking of forks...
I upped the oil as you have and applied an old trick of placing valve springs from a car on top of the existing fork spring - instant progressive springs for the princely sum of $0? If you want to get fancy you can swap out springs from different cars high or lower engine performance to make it bespoke lol. Course they may be stuffed if you get them from a scrap yard but for this application its not a biggie - checking they are the same height with a steel rule on top and bina ny shorter?ones will do.
