W800 OEM rack

Hi all - I assume the W800 rear rack also fits the W650?
Part 99994-1224

Re: Has this W650 been lowered?

Yes. Check your chain tension any time you change anything on the rear end like that. Slipping or snapping a chain generally leads to expensive mayhem.

Be sure to give us the low-down on your modified ride!

There are also many shock absorbers that are shorter than stock¡ªremember that you¡¯ll need to find a shorter side stand and/or center stand, or modify a stock one to accommodate your new stance.

Re: Has this W650 been lowered?

Where can I find the lowering kit?

Do I need to adjust the chain tension if I lower the bike?

Better the bike than you, mate! Take care.

If nobody bites, I¡¯ll consider parting it out but again I¡¯d strongly prefer local pickup cuz I deeply hate the whole shipping hassle. I could also possibly deliver parts in the LA / SoCal area.

Luckily I have two more, but this was the jewel of the collection. I guess I just have to rebuild the next one¡

I¡¯m with Bob on this¡ Webike¡¯s shipping to the US certainly is quick - I don¡¯t know if I¡¯d call the cost ¡°reasonable¡± exactly, but it¡¯s not too terrible for shipping from overseas, and the prices for the actual parts that I¡¯ve purchased from them (both OEM and aftermarket) are so dramatically lower than anywhere else I¡¯ve found, they¡¯re just about always the cheapest option for me¡

Replacement fork bushings

Neighbor backed into my 650 and bent the forks. I've tracked down some parts but not bushings. Anyone found decent aftermarket? OEM?92028-1940

Re: In 2023 what is the best tire for our W650?

After the originals wore out, I've always had Bridgestone Spitfires on my W650. I can't recall how often I've replaced them. They seem to work pretty well and the price is reasonable.

Re: Varnish

After stripping off the clear coat, I started with a mouse sander loaded with 220, then used progressively lighter grits by hand; 400, 600, 1000, etc., to get the oxidation off.??I used a Dremel tool with wire brushes to get into the tiny spaces like the screw holes.?Once I got all the oxidation off and had a relatively smooth surface I used aluminum polish, there's a kit from Harbor Freight that includes enough different wheels and other shapes and several grades of polish.?I used those with my old Rotozip plugged into a speed controller (also from Harbor Freight) to gradually polish it to a shine. (An electric drill would work just as well.) I cleaned the surfaces with a rag dipped in mineral spirits to get each grade of polish off before using the next lighter grade.?

Re: Varnish

I used to ride upstate New York roads where they salted them heavily in the winter. I don't think the salt ever got washed off until well into summer, so over the years the clear coat on my engine casings got pitted and oxidized.?

Over the last year I finally got around to using paint stripper and sandpaper to get all the old clear coat off and then polished the cases.?

They don't use salt in Oregon, though now the problem is the wildfire ash which gets everywhere and creates a caustic solution when it gets wet.

Dear ¡°Ton Up Dan,¡±

¡°Slow class? ¡°...saw the ton every lap???¡±¡± On a Dub?!?!

The Sport Demons sound good! Thanks! And for more reassurance on the rough tire pressure debate...

Hi to you too and I hope to see you & R. this summer!

I totally agree with the Sport Demons. I¡¯ve had BT45¡¯s on my W650 and they were completely adequate, but replaced them with the Pirelli¡¯s at my last tire change. The Sport Demons weren¡¯t particularly hard to mount or balance, but the best thing for me is their handling. I took my Dub to the track last summer (slow class, for sure!) so they saw ¡°the ton¡± every lap. They felt great! No issues at lean or transitions, I just felt confident with them.

I run 33F 36R psi normally, though lower for the track as tires get really hot and gain pressure at sustained higher speeds. No need for tire warmers, the Sport Demons are a street tire and while they don¡¯t have the ultimate traction of track tires, they also aren¡¯t finicky about tire warmth.

My 2 cents. And: Hi Ruari!!
