Wriders - We now have a themed monthly photo contest, the themes being holidays appropriate to the month or season. Winner's pic would be used as the YAHOO group homepage picture for that month (or maybe just that holiday). Contest is open to all.

Here's the rules:
There will be a new folder under the Temp Photos photo section (Not the Main homepage!) called _Photo Contest_ into which contest submissions will be placed.

The list of holidays for the year will be sent out at the beginning of each month.

You, the contestants, will peruse the list of holidays, and select the one(s) you want to try to capture the spirit of. The aim of the game is to have a bike in the pic, obviously the Dub is preferred but if you take an outstanding pic that matches the theme and has some other bike it will be considered. Please, pix must be ORIGINAL, and if copyrighted, permission must be granted by you for the moderators to use it. Also, you must name the pic in such a way that I'll know which holiday you're trying to represent. Last, bear in mind that smaller is better -- 600x400 or thereabouts is a good resolution.

During the month, I will look for pictures that seem to fit the coming month's holiday theme, and by the end of the month I will have selected one. I will then notify the moderators who will insert it in the homepage, to be the first thing anyone sees when they log on.

Stay in topic! The Subject Line should be a clue what you are talking about.
If in a reply you are changing the subject consider;
(a) starting a new thread. This means DON'T reply to this thread, start a NEW one.
(b) adding a prefix to the existing subject, then the word "Was" to the original subject. As in...
(original) RE: Selling my low bar kit
(change to) Wussed out. Was RE: Selling my low bar kit

Note: the "Re:" that prefixes a subject is added by Yahoo when a new subject (thread) is replied to.
Please do not start a new thread with "Re:", it's confusing.

SUBJECT CODES:

To help those who do not want to wade through subjects NOT related to W650s,
please start your subject line with "NWC" (for No W Content). As in...

REPLYING TO POSTS:

When replying to posts, judicious cropping of Yahoo generated advertisements and lengthy threads
will be appreciated by all. There is no need to have every previous reply contained in your reply.
However, leaving the most recent reply or pertinent parts of it will create some continuity in the thread,
especially for those that read the posts with email.

ATTACHING PHOTOS OR FILES:
Note that Yahoo Groups no longer saves attachments to messages viewed at the Yahoo Group site.
Only "Individual Email" subscribers will see an attached photo or file.

Please be sensitive to other member's time spent downloading and reading the posts.
Most people do not have a high-speed connection. Some members access is charged per minute
or by size of download. If you need to attach a photo, please keep it small. Use Windows Paint, your
digital camera picture editor or download a picture editor/viewer such as IrfanView to re-size your photo
before you send it. 300kb photos take a while to download at 56k. Re-sized to about 64kb will probably get
your point across. If you have multiple photo's, consider uploading them to the group Photo Sections (see below).

Alternatives to attaching photos:
(a) upload them to the group Photo sections (see below re: W650RIDERS' PHOTOS).
(b) get a free Yahoo Photos account. You get 5mb of storage at no charge.
Set the access to "Everyone" in "Edit Settings". Then if you want to show a photo, just
paste the URL of your Yahoo Photos page in your message. To get a Yahoo Photo's account, go to...

(c) if you have a web page of your own, you can link to your photo on that page.

W650RIDERS' PHOTOS: Now (2) Photo Sections available;

W650RIDERS Photo Section; permanent storage (as long as there is room).Please limit these pictures
to W650 specific items. We have a voluntary limit of 3 photos per member, to give those who want
to show them space to do so.

W650RIDERS-PHOTOS Photo Section; temporary storage. This is a supplementary and separate
Yahoo Group to W650Riders. Go ahead and upload as many as you want, W650 and general motorcycle
interest (artsy shots, ride photos, that new Guzzi, your cat sitting on the bike, etc.) These photos will be
deleted by the moderators in 30 days (or more), so the space will never fill up. You may want to upload
pictures here that you would normally "attach" to message posts, because;
Only subscribers with "individual email delivery" see an attachment.
No one will grouse at you for attaching a 500kb (huge) picture that takes a long time to download.
Upload as many as you want.
Not everyone wants to see all the attached photos. Give them a choice.

Note that a couple of short cut links are now printing at the bottom of message posts; they will
open your browser and take you directly to W650Riders-Photos Uploader and List Mode Viewing.

PHOTO SECTIONS IN GENERAL
Yahoo stores your photo 2 ways; a maximum 400 pixel "shared" version that any member can view,
and your original uploaded version that only you, the owner, can view (this is a Yahoo thing, they
want you to order prints from this larger photo). The shared photo is probably sized at 100kb or less.
The original version is whatever resolution and file size you happened to upload, which can be 10 times
the size of the shared version. Please delete this larger version as it takes up a lot of space (no need
to do this at the temporary Photo Section of W650Riders-Photos). The moderators will periodically review
the photo section and remove any larger versions.
Note that uploading a large version only wastes bandwidth and increases the time it takes you
to make the upload. Don't send a 1.3 megabyte photo as it will never be seen in that resolution anyway.
Downsize it first and your uploads will go faster.

3 WAYS TO READ THE MESSAGES:

(a) Individual Emails: This can be the quickest way to read posts. The messages are delivered to your inbox
one at a time. This is the best option if you want to keep up on the latest posts immediately.
Email attachments will be sent directly to you. Note that if you use Individual Emails you won't be looking at
Yahoo packaged advertisement screens every 4th message as on the Group Site Message Section.
If you haven't checked your mail in a while, there may be a flood of it. You may want to chose another
method of reading the messages, if you prefer, or if you will not be checking the email for a while (like out of town).

(b) Daily Digest: Messages are delivered in batches of 25 or daily, whichever comes sooner.
This is the best option if you want to receive fewer individual email messages and don't need up-to-the minute
posts in your inbox. Email attachments (pictures, etc.) are not available in digests.

(c) No Email: With this option, you can only read messages at the Yahoo Groups web site.
Use this option if you don't want any email while you are on vacation, or just flat don't want any emails.
Email attachments (pictures, etc.) are not available in with this option.

There are advantages and disadvantages to each method. Choose the one that fits your needs.
Regardless of which method you chose, you can post messages at the Group web site, or with your email program.

One other tip if you elect "Individual Emails"; the quantity of emails may seem overwhelming, but most email programs
allow you to filter the incoming mail into separate mailboxes. You may set up one especially for W650riders,
that way the Group messages won't be mixed in with your personal or business email. From there you may
sort the messages, if you like, usually by "from", "subject", "date received" and others. There are instructions for doing
this in the W650Riders Files Section.

TO CHANGE YOUR PREFERENCES, from the Group home page...
(or any of your Yahoo Groups)

Select "My Groups" at the upper right of the page. From there you can select "Email Preferences" to change the
way you recieve posts.

YAHOO GENERATED SPAM;

It's a good idea to periodically check your Yahoo account to see if they have your permission to contact you through
email, ground address and phone, and give your contact information to 3rd parties. When you sign up with Yahoo,
the default is in Yahoo's favor.

To fix this, from any Groups home page, select "Account Info" at the upper right. Part way down your account information
screen, pick "Edit Your Marketing Preferences". Then look at all the "Include Me" options and set them
they way YOU want them. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the screen and watch for "fine print" options too.
Then be sure to hit the "Save Changes" button.

SPAM:

Will get you immediately banned.

SELLING STUFF:

We welcome members who have a need to give away, trade or sell W650 related parts, accessories, manuals, etc.
This is not to say a retail or wholesale business can set up shop here. W650 owners seem to be the sort that
like to modify their bikes and try new things, which often results in extra stuff lying around your garage.
If you think another member might appreciate the use of it, go ahead and post it. Please work out the details
of your deals off line.

I have been a W owner for 5 years now, And ready to move on to diff.
toy. I'm not sure how much to ask for my bike. It is a 2000 with 3k
miles, blue and silver, no modifications, almost new condition. I live

I've done so much custom work on my W650 that I need to look at a
stock one to see if I've made any mistakes when I resassembled the
bike. Just want to come by and take a peek if you're within a 100
miles or so of New York City. (Long Island, NJ or CT).

They are not the same size. The rear tyre is 30 mm wider.

There are two issues here. The height issue is to do with handling, the width issue to do with matching radii. The 120/90 is slightly taller than the 130, which is good for high speed stability and secure handling. The 120 is also not as wide as the 'picked for fashion looks' 130 and so is nearer to the 100 front. The front is also a 90 profile so has a similar curve to the 120/90. The 80's are a shallower side to side radius.

So with a 14mm sidewall height difference x 2 as there are two

and the stock 130/80 18 fully assembled and inflated are actually the
same size. If this is true then why go to a 120/90 rear and upset the
balance?

Good point. I am still experimenting, but 30/34 seems to work better for me at 200 lbs., not 28/32.
