Re: :WAS goodwood breakfast club NOW MDS STRIKES AGAIN
I tend to just lift all four fingers off the bar on the throttle side for bikes....Most who are looking tend to look to the hands and see that. For cars who have let me past I use the continental dangling leg...very chic.
When I don't get a wave it's generally a newer machine....or a very old shabby commuter...which may or may not be significant.

As to waving bit have you tried using more than 2 fingers :) have a look for a HD rider he/she might just return to your wave ----- Original Message ----- From: "nige_1959" <nigel.denton1@...> To: <W650riders@...> Sent: Friday, June 29, 2007 9:07 AM Subject: [W650riders] Re: :WAS goodwood breakfast club NOW MDS STRIKES AGAIN
LOL...didn't realise it was that expensive.
There you thinking about a new bike and it was only a few weeks ago you were thinking about packing in biking and just getting a little commuter. What was the 800 like, I actually like the one with the half fairing, rather than the full fairing, although that is based only on looks as I have never ridden one...hence my question before about trying them.
As to a GS, its back to the being intimidated by a big bike syndrome again I'm afraid. In terms of what the bike can do I reckon it would be the perfect bike for me but size is scary...cue Jake with Bishop and actress jokes :>)
Still at least if you get a Beemer maybe there will one on the road that will wave to me; at present, on my commute, I see a big RT, a Honda Hornet, Triumph Bonnie (really nice colour scheme) and none of them will wave, whether this is because I am on my little stroker or whether they are just miserable s*ds I have no idea.

Re: Rear tire width question
?
The 120 is taller actually. The 120/90 is 12cms
wide and 10.8 cms tall. The 4.00/18 is 4 inches ( 10.2cms) wide and 4 inches (
10.2cms) tall. I traded height for fast turning. It's also ?10 cheaper!
Is the 120/90 as close to the 4.00/!* you use

Re: Rear tire width question
No...the '80' is a percentage of the other figure so a 120/80 is 80% of 120 mm which is 96 mm...Or 9.6 cms tall. The 120/90 is 108mm or 10.8 cms tall and the 130/80 is 10.5 cms. The 120/90 is 1.2 cms, or half an inch taller...And when we are talking about the weave occurring somewhere within the 4" of rear end travel, half an inch is significant...even that 3mm between the 120/90 and the 130/80 seems to make a difference!
It's not the '90' bit that is the rolling radius, but the 120. The rear tyre is 120mm wide, the front is 100mm wide so the 120 is 20mm, or 2cms wider than the front whereas the 130 is, yup, you guessed it, 30mm wider. Getting the tyre widths similar helps the bike roll smoothly over

Re: Rear tire width question
Thanks for that info Dennis. Stock 130/80 sidewall height = 104mm 100/90 sidewall height = 90mm So with a 14mm sidewall height difference x 2 as there are two sidewalls in the diameter) the rear has 28mm or one inch taller overall sidewall height than the front tire. So the stock 100/90 19 and the stock 130/80 18 fully assembled and inflated are actually the same size. If this is true then why go to a 120/90 rear and upset the balance? --- In W650riders@..., "Dennis J. Guggemos" <djguggms@...> wrote: Ed

The "80" part is the percentage of the width (the 120 or 130
part). So, 80% of 120 is less than 80% of 130, so you get a less tall tire with
a 120/80.

I have been trying to understand it all. At a TT (circuit)
there's MotoGP which is racing on bikes of between 500cc and 800cc (?) all
over europe (or other parts of world as well).
Then there's racing on
smaller machines.
And there's WSB and so on.
What is sort of
'the' event? I don't really watch it (yet) but do the Pedrosas and the Rossis
do both? WSB and MotoGP. Suppose GP is well the GP so that must be the main
racing event then? Pfff complicated.
