Scored some OEM mufflers
So...always smart to be proactive with bike parts because we all know, it's never a case of 'if' but 'when'. Noted my nice condition mounted mufflers had a very small 'trouble spot ' on the balance pipe/connection. Before anyone makes me panic further, the running conditions have not changed a bit! Nor has the exhaust note. Been keeping things extra clean and ACF50 anti corrision spray continues working wonders.
A pal in the FB W crew offered the pictured mufflers to me for....$200!? Yes, please! So, the attached is my efforts cleaning up with Simple Green(properly diluted etc), kerosene(I'm so late to learning about its cleaning powers) fine and extra fine steel wool, Simichrome and ACF50. I'd like to think they look pretty good. I know mufflers can be sourced from Webbike Japan but some buyers said they got hit with expensive customs fees. They said Posh is a good brand with nice construction but we all know nothing beats the fitment of OEM. Anyone wanna comment about the quality of any aftermarket mufflers and their fitment experiences? Thanks! |

Let’s hope we can meet up again this spring/summer! Ruari On Jan 30, 2024, at 8:48 PM, Dan Muir via groups.io <djmuir22152@...> wrote:
?Hello back, Ruari! We ought to get together again sometime . . . probably my turn to come north! Those Sport Demons are 100/90-19 front and 120/90-18 rear. Almost but not quite stock. Excellent post. Many of those rides, I would imagine, are on the bucket lists of riders all over the world. Thanks for stirring the imagination. Re: In 2023 what is the best tire for our W650?
开云体育I have three W650's 2 x 1999 models and one 2003 model one for me to ride and the other two ridden by my sons.? The oldest bike has been in the family since 1999. All three bikes have been tweaked for maximum stability including: ?
? The above changes have greatly improved the stability of our W650s on our Scottish country roads, trips to the Isle of Man, to watch the Manx, and Holidays in Switzerland to ride the Alpine passes (Furka, Grimsel and Sustain passes). I use Avons on all my bikes and would recommend them for W650s, excellent grip in the wet and stable on rough surfaces. Other tyres may deliver similar results! ? Happy riding in 2024! |

Yes, the Sport Demons can handle well but many owners report they don't last long. I feel I did better than avg when I had them mounted but I'm more about longevity and where I live now does not need a very sporty tire. I'm working diligently to get the most miles out of my Michelin Road Classics.

Re: In 2023 what is the best tire for our W650?
开云体育After wearing out the original rear Classic, I went to the group’s more-or-less consensus tire, Bridgestone BT45’s front and rear.? I used them until Bridgestone stopped making them.? My last set is the replacement BT46.? Ok, but I think I preferred the BT45’s ride. ? 28,000 miles in 22 years.? New tires about every 4-6k miles.? I guess I am hard on them, especially about keeping the pressure up.? I am ready for a new front tire as soon as it is warm enough. ? Mike E |
Re: In 2023 what is the best tire for our W650?
Instead of progressive springs in the front forks, one can take a piece?of pipe with an external diameter just slightly smaller than the internal diameter of the forks.? Saw 2 pcs of 1 inch in length and pre-compress the standard fork springs with them. Then you now have poor man's progressive springs. On tires, I use 110 / 90 x 19 front and 140 / 80 x 18 rear, the bike looks better and gives a slight up gearing. I have fitted grease nipples to the swing arm at the center and foot brake through-shaft at the frame. Enriched the carbs, replaced the airbox with pods, and the standard exhaust with Posh aftermarkets. The bike is more lively and sounds better, probably been given a coupla more HP, along with improved torque? Den s?n. 28. jan. 2024 kl. 10.41 skrev Tom Marckese <tmarckesejr@...>:

Re: In 2023 what is the best tire for our W650?
In my experience riding a 1999 W650 since 2007 the ride and tracking is very much effected by a combination of yes the tyre type/tread but also the pretension of the rear suspension in relation to the rider and luggage weight. I have tried Avons and Metzeler but have always reverted to the original BT45 but I have also changed the rear tyre size to 120/90. Now? over 60000 miles in UK and Europe.
