Re: kickstart

Well - the usual suspects. The Dub is notoriously cold-blooded and something out of whack may make it worse.

Easy stuff:?
  1. Try to find a fuel station that sells ethanol-free gas. It won't harm the W since it was designed for the European market which has been using ethanol longer than us. But it doesn't burn like the real stuff. In US and Canada, this site can help:??
  2. If not, if you're using corn fuel, it's isn't worth a s**t after about two weeks, so that's also something to?consider
  3. Prime before you kick since you don't run it every day to get some fuel into the bowls
  4. Pull the 'choke' before kicking. If memory serves, what do they really call it - the enrichener or some such thing??
  5. Replace vacuum hoses with polyester. The stock rubber ones are likely very leaky, even if they look OK and that starves the bike of fuel.
  6. Do the overnight Techron trick (fill the bowls with pure Chevron Techron and leave them overnight to loosen any gunk buildup in the carbs. Put the rest of the bottle in the tank.
  7. Consider new spark plug wires, coil wires and plugs?if yours have a lot of miles on them
  8. Check primary electrical connections on the coil(s) - can't remember if the Dub has one or two.
  9. Sync the carbs.
More difficult stuff
  1. Is the enriching lever working? I don't know how to diagnose, but that's a suspect.
  2. Are the carbs working the way they should??
  3. Is the petcock working? - these are also known to go bad.?
  4. Dump the fresh air injection system if you haven't already
  5. Is the igniter working correctly? Again, I would not know how to diagnose, but it's the heart of the ignition system.
That's all I can think of but it's a start.

Good luck.
