New Zealand? There's a country I would really like to go hang out in for a while. I've seen some pictures and it looks stunning.
How high are your Alps? Also, you must be heading into summer there right?

Yesterday (Friday) I had to have the morning off to look after three
of
the kids (School holidays), while Jen took the little one to the
optomitrist. Had a good morning, went and got the boat trailer road
legal ready for Monday, opening day for the trout fishing season.
Just before lunchtime I was reading the paper and having a coffee
when
my boss phoned to say she had dealt with the urgent jobs I was going
to
do in the afternoon. She asked, seeing as it was a lovely day, if I'd
like to have the afternoon off as well and make a 4 day weekend. No
second thoughts needed there.
So within about 2 minutes I had the bike out and the gear ready. Jen
came home about 5 minutes later and was quite happy for me to
disappear
for the afternoon.
I decided to go to the Bealey Hotel which is on the Eastern side of
Arthurs Pass from here. This is an Alpine pass through the Southern
Alps. The ride was brillent. I live on the coast so we are going from
sea level to the mountains. The roads are all good with everyting
from
open farmland to bush right down to the edge of the road, tight
twisty
stuff and enjoyable sweeping bends as well. The ride there took just
over an hour and was about 100km's. I had a relax at the pub and
enjoyed the scenery for an hour and headed home. I turned off at
Jacksons to come home around Lake Brunner to have some different
scenery. All up it was a 230Km trip.
A great day. I learnt that my bike will do 200km's before hitting
reserve. I struck a patch of rain grooves on a bend in the mountains
and know what you mean when you say the front tyre will follow the
grooves! A guy in the car park came over for a chat and was very
impressed with the W650.
I should have taken my camera, I took some photo's with my phone but
they are pretty small when put on the computer, next time.
Cheers
Murray
