Yeah - we have been warned about the lower ring-gear.? I am really happy that we found a local dealer.? And especially they give a 15% military discount.? He couldn¡¯t give us that much off on the bikes, but every other accessory has been 15% or even 20% discounted.
They had several bike racks there, and of course the cheaper ones weren¡¯t rated for the duty we want.? I think you know we are a JEEP and 4X4 family, with 3 Jeeps, two Tacoma 4X4s and a 4-Runner between us and the kids.? Turns out the best carrier rack recommended for our needs was about $1k.? We¡¯ll get some discount on that¡¡.. but we were warned about going cheap on this.? Well, it is what it is.
When I was young I raced off-road motorcycles.? About 5 years ago we got rid of our last dirt bikes.? So I am ¡°experienced¡±, but I am not ¡°current¡±.? And there is a difference.? We¡¯ll start off slow around the neighborhood in the pavement first.? Then graduate to the irrigation canals, and the Rio Grande Levy.? My first SOTA with the Adventure-2 might be Mt Cristo Rey.? On Good Friday and Easter Sunday people crawl up the 2.5-miles on their hands and knees.? So it might be a good place to try the bikes out once we feel confident about flat-lands.? BTW ¨C this is the SOTA summit where the kids ran when they saw Andrew with his pistol on his hip and we later heard gunfire down below in Juarez.
A couple of years ago I could roll out on my regular bike and run an average of 15-MPH for a whole hour.? So far this year the best I have been able to do is 12.3-MPH average.? But the sad fact is this¡.. as bad as I am getting, I¡¯m still in better shape than most of the people I know.? Except for FRED!? I think Fred is in better shape now than I was at 40 when I just retired from the Army.
Hey, you have a SUPER day.? We will report back when the bikes arrive and we have a chance to play with them.? BTW and as you probably know, they come limited to 20-MPH max speed, but can be reprogrammed for 30-MPH +++.? I am researching if this mod has any affect on battery life.? What I mean is, if I run 20 MPH without the mod, then 20-MPH with the mod, is there any difference in battery consumption?? Trying to find that out now.

The bikes are very heavy and I remove the battery packs before putting them on the rack to make it lighter.? It helps to have two people pick up the bike when putting them on the rack! I was hoping to be able to take the bikes on trails a bit more difficult than a gravel or dirt road.? However, they don't have much clearance to the bottom bracket and pedals -- like a more expensive mountain bike version would have.? I've already replaced the front chain ring and crank arms after hitting them hard on a rock and bending them!? Other than that, I like the bike for general pupose use and riding with my wife. Have fun with your new toys!
