Good Ol' Fashion Antenna Building Party
Another Email from me, I know... Huntsville is a small town not much to do.... As mentioned after the Signal net maybe we should have a get together and build some simple antennas. I'm open to anything and members of the group would be interested in what YOU the member and participant of the Signal net wants to do (and when) if we were to have a get together. Nothing is set in stone at this time, just asking for suggestions and input from all. -Jon K5DVT

147.315 "Alternative" Input & other 315 updates (& a new net)
Good evening all: There is a NEW way to access the 147.315 Repeater. This is to help out those of us on the fringe of HT/mobile coverage. This won't let you hear the repeater better, but it will help you get in. That is, if you can hear the repeater fine, but are weak into it, try this. If you can't hear the repeater, this won't help,as the repeater still transmits the signal from Kessler Mtn. This is a work in progress. Please be patient and this may not be a permanent addition. In order to use this, simply program a channel to the repeater as you would, but use a 110.9 PL instead of 97.4 PL. This receiver is located in Huntsville so it may not help you Benton Co guys. Also with our neighbor to the north, George, KJ6TQ Branson, we have become "Internet link partners" Don't let that scare you, it's a low use system during the week, much like the 147.315 is. They would be really glad to make your acquaintance and rag chew away into the night. A number of you probably heard the internet linked checkin's on the last Signal Net. George has a net that we will be linked up for. It is a regular net on Sunday Nights at 7:30 PM Central. He connects his system to the BIG 145.490 SW MO Skywarn repeater system. I highly encourage everyone to check in regardless of age and/or Skywarn affiliation! It lasts 45 mins- 1 hour, then he will disconnect and we will be back to just George and us linked. Let me know you question/comments/concerns about all the above or none of it. 73 - Jon

KI5CXH Susan's antenna project completed and some notes from W5ZQI
Hey Group, sincerely hope everyone reading this is well and in the best of spirits, ( Jeff, that means like mental spirits, not moonshine ) Anyways group, Susan's antenna went up nicely, she will have improved signal reports and some good audio on VHF / UHF, so listen for her and always encourage participation with new Hams like Susan. Now some notes : If you want to help radio friends know your limitations and do your homework. Stay in the margins of your skills, knowledge and physical limitations. Take pride in your work or your advice. Do work and provide equipment that is above your own standards, you always provide better meals for your guests than you normally do for yourself. Don't buy a man Hot Pocket if you demand a real pizza. It is best to stand aside on a radio or antenna installation if you are completely inexperienced, failure is only acceptable if it's your own gear. Now why the hell has Shane posted this ? Because he learned by experience and everything he says on this is fair warning to the friends he loves and appreciates.... 73

Volunteers and Donations to get Susan KI5CXH a "Solid Signal"
8
Hey Group, Susan is getting a new Tram 1480 antenna. The Signal Net group is going to handle her installation. Besides on site assistance with tools and ladders. We will need : ground rod w/ clamp, some LMR 400 or RG8/u coax, lightning arrest fitting, any donations in that area are appreciated. A sure footed roof man and a participant with a truck for ladders would be nice. No obligation pressure here, this is all good fun, being done in the spirit of Ham traditions.

allstar link node for the 2m kessler machine?
4
Hello, friends! I've yet to assemble a station that can work the new 2m repeater you're using but it occurred to me that maybe it might have an allstar node set up. My node is down for repairs as the URI had a... deceleration event... but I'm in the process of getting it all fixed. Would be interesting to connect it up that way. I'd like to hop back on the net sometime. I miss y'all! Thanks! 72 DE KD5RYO

Attention all participants, Notice for Saturday night Ragchew......
9
All Stations : The 700 Saturday Night Ragchew is temporarily suspended. We will soon be relocating to another repeater and if all goes as planned, we may have a different format. Please do not assume this is the demise of our endeavors. There are repeater related logistics and other quite simple concerns to attend to. We will look forward to better days. We have maintained priceless "on air friendships" for more than a year, we will strive to continue... Sincerely, Shane W5ZQI ( self appointed Ayatollah )

radios compatible with a DMK URIx?
4
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA256 Greetings, list! Does anyone have recommendations for a 2m or 70cm radio that'll work with a DMK URIx *easily*? I currently have my URIx fed into a Baofeng UV-82 which I've hacked apart and modified and it's finally given up the ghost. Ideally I'd just like to maybe make a simple cable to plug into a data port. Low cost would be a major bonus. I've heard that there are several commercial Motorola rigs that would work in this manner but it seems to me that programming them would be a real pain in the rear. Thanks in advance for any advice! 72 DE KD5RYO - -- Happy Hacking! http://manor.space/~cmhobbs GPG: 1200 0808 F968 47AB F489 91A3 FE26 6FFB 1A77 0868 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAEBCAAdFiEEEgAICPloR6v0iZGj/iZv+xp3CGgFAl1MvhoACgkQ/iZv+xp3 CGiX+A/+PPkbQR3IUyAR6tQiNoiPrO+t0MNlh9A+Kwz3CiAd5CBh6YyBAdztHw9s s7ClNJC10uiRHa594os4zjdyWolwTEZg0e8a7xzwkivKDz8rnnDjnVt8vn33N704 DThkTDXdHpZZ1QxAU0s1Flutdfq9zOm4UucDnH4IVhujVV/Hyxk8QlH67On4mJgR XWOW6sdcIMkgS0IuKdTp/x+9fkPC5vOGRnuStq1XYgaWaw52WytnbWhvlil61nKB rRmGpeOVsG7p/s9DWx2HQT0IXuzURpY/23+GojxjDtNMHkwLENYtNVQ8t3uGMaaa AbjNwlS++1jGN69yOvOreKiKpWDCmjvzChYE0+P1cwBOpnHWL9tgRRxhn6Fy8qm6 tCteyruB84V+nCivMMXh55/+GiQLd2JJkbhw9aUqriTMzv1zmgM6kUhoQ18AU+M+ CdLM9kQLn0aesm1DGpJd74OCK0kA320eM/I0Jf5Mnq9PJDT3cTiNL6S9ziC9AtSP WSMeEMLD0JzOpNwT91LS3Sbpc3gu2y5SVKlIWOBDyWULX4KBCnxhxEdRYbyIZnvD 8EBcYatAt+vVjKR9s1ZSz5jbltuW2HRMzrDigOhLqxrhtQDxLD+mu9T48YqWHI0+ Gtg+FeABuWhA5MimEwm7mqvHs+LH0xwliLX1CiVRFNnZYHBkWb8= =lFdA -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Attention all participants, Saturday Net Time change....
For the summer until fall daylight savings time change the Saturday Net will be 9 pm CST.
|
Attention all participants ! Let's talk about some things....
2
Respond to this with ideas for Saturday Rag Chew time change. Shane, Sam, and Scotty B. think maybe 9 pm is too late for some of our busier, younger friends to visit the Rag Chew. Lets throw in some Saturday time ideas. ( 6 7 8 ) ? Also we absolutely must have a name for the Rag Chew. Based on the established history, a name related to meat cooked outdoors is the foundation. Shane's idea is " Saturday Smokehouse Rag Chew ". Everyone must email in some ideas for meat related name and we will vote. The current name is not good. True that our 700 machine is our family birthplace, frequencies are not exclusive or original, as a name it does not reflect our greatness as friends. Please respond with ideas, and not " Meaty McMeatface Net", or such type joyous names. Smoked, BBQ, and many others will be accepted as possibility. Keep in mind this is not a Club Net, not a net with agenda, Just friends, sharing the fun of radio.... Your input is valued. 73

Clayton, "The Net that was not to be" (appreciation in order)
3
Clayton had Net Control duty for Saturday February 2nd. He fired up his rig, put forth the intro, called for check ins, and behold, silence.... Certainly we all know that is the nature of things, life is magic that way and it happens, not a big deal. Let's as a collective give Clayton a hearty, Thanks for being there ! I will throw my humble excuse out in the public forum. I mismanaged a length of coax at our 700 field day, it found it's way to Huntsville with Jon. It was the main conduit of RF from my radio to antenna. I am too lazy to drive to Huntsville so I ordered a chunk of coax from Ohio. Well the mail was delayed for Arctic Vortex, I am KG5ZBQ / Alpha Silent... To Clayton, many Thanks for your dedication to the 700.

winter field day interest?
19
Greetings, all! I may have brought this up on the net but I've been given approval to set up on the lawn of the Masonic Lodge in Siloam Springs during Winter Field Day (https://www.winterfieldday.com/) on January 26-27. I have never done WFD, myself, but I have participated in the "normal" Field Day in the past. This seemed like a fun thing to do that might give some exposure to the hobby (and if it's too cold, we can warm up in the Lodge or need a restroom/kitchen). The only confusing thing for me is the points system and how operating might be done under what stations but there's time to figure that all out. The only radios I have for this are my Yaesu FT-60R HT and my LNR Precision 5 band Mountain Topper (QRP CW). I might be able to get my bitx40 up and running in time with some luck (QRP SSB). I'd need to work out some kind of HF antenna setup. I also have a portable awning that's probably 10x10 that I could set up as well. If we get permission, I don't see why we couldn't even drag my fire pit up to the lodge and have a nice toasty fire while we operate though that would require some tending. I'm working hard to get my CW up to 15wpm to be useful for this event. I plan to set up and operate somewhere anyway. If I don't end up at the Lodge, I'll probably try to make it up to the Twin Mountains you all hear me blathering about on the radio all the time out at the Wedington area since it's the tallest area I have access to nearby. If there's enough interest, I'd love to park at the Lodge with some of you for a while. Let me know what you think and I'll try to bring it up again on the net. cmh - KD5RYO
