Good Ol' Fashion Antenna Building Party
Another Email from me, I know... Huntsville is a small town not much to do....
As mentioned after the Signal net maybe we should have a get together and build some simple antennas. I'm open to anything and members of the group would be interested in what YOU the member and participant of the Signal net wants to do (and when) if we were to have a get together. Nothing is set in stone at this time, just asking for suggestions and input from all. -Jon K5DVT |
147.315 "Alternative" Input & other 315 updates (& a new net)
Good evening all:
There is a NEW way to access the 147.315 Repeater. This is to help out those of us on the fringe of HT/mobile coverage. This won't let you hear the repeater better, but it will help you get in. That is, if you can hear the repeater fine, but are weak into it, try this. If you can't hear the repeater, this won't help,as the repeater still transmits the signal from Kessler Mtn. This is a work in progress. Please be patient and this may not be a permanent?addition. In order to use this, simply program a channel to the repeater as you would, but use a 110.9 PL instead of 97.4 PL. This receiver is located in Huntsville so it may not help you Benton Co guys.? Also with our neighbor to the north, George, KJ6TQ Branson, we have become "Internet link partners" Don't let that scare you, it's a low use system during the week, much like the 147.315 is. They would be really glad to make your acquaintance and rag chew away into the night. A number of you probably heard the internet linked checkin's on the last Signal Net. George has a net that we will be linked up for. It is a regular net on Sunday Nights at 7:30 PM Central. He connects his system to the BIG 145.490 SW MO Skywarn repeater system. I highly encourage everyone to check in regardless of age and/or Skywarn affiliation! It lasts 45 mins- 1 hour, then he will disconnect and we will be back to just George and us linked. Let me know you question/comments/concerns about all the above or none of it. 73 - Jon |
KI5CXH Susan's antenna project completed and some notes from W5ZQI
Hey Group, sincerely hope everyone reading this is well and in the best of spirits, ( Jeff, that means like mental spirits, not moonshine ) Anyways group, Susan's antenna went up nicely, she will have improved signal reports and some good audio on VHF / UHF, so listen for her and always encourage participation with new Hams like Susan. Now some notes : If you want to help radio friends know your limitations and do your homework. Stay in the margins of your skills, knowledge and physical limitations. Take pride in your work or your advice. Do work and provide equipment that is above your own standards, you always provide better meals for your guests than you normally do for yourself. Don't buy a man Hot Pocket if you demand a real pizza. It is best to stand aside on a radio or antenna installation if you are completely inexperienced, failure is only acceptable if it's your own gear. Now why the hell has Shane posted this ? Because he learned by experience and everything he says on this is fair warning to the friends he loves and appreciates.... 73?

Re: Volunteers and Donations to get Susan KI5CXH a "Solid Signal"
After an onsite look at the possible antenna positions for Susan's house, a gable mount may be the best, most simple and aesthetically pleasing option. Here is the problem at hand : We will need a healthy able bodied roof / ladder / get in the attic man. ( attic is tall and large ) Roof is a high peaked single story.? A real long safe extension ladder may be the order of the day. Not a technical installation at any stretch, physical fitness and ladder skills will bring home the gold medal.?

Re: Volunteers and Donations to get Susan KI5CXH a "Solid Signal"
The only detail at present is that Susan has ordered her antenna. So, I believe it will be a week before we consider a work detail. We will no doubt try to do a Saturday or Sunday install of Susan's choice ( yet to be decided ). I may consider getting a look at her house and the actual antenna mounting position before a work crew is assembled. I will update everyone as information arrives.?

Yeah it's on Allstar, Node 40010. It only just came on the internet yesterday, and we still have some network ports to open and bugs to squash. It won't be till mid afternoon Friday till I can get to it. -Jon? On Wed, Sep 18, 2019, 6:29 AM Christopher M. Hobbs <cmhobbs@...> wrote: Hello, friends! |

Hello, friends!
I've yet to assemble a station that can work the new 2m repeater you're using but it occurred to me that maybe it might have an allstar node set up.? My node is down for repairs as the URI had a... deceleration event... but I'm in the process of getting it all fixed.? Would be interesting to connect it up that way.? I'd like to hop back on the net sometime.? I miss y'all! Thanks! 72 DE KD5RYO |
