NEW PROGRAM - W4ELP's Master Keys v1.0
Announcing a new program ¨C ¡°Master Keys¡± by W4ELP. It¡¯s actually the same program as W4ELP Lookup, but it is ONLY for HRD V6.8 or later. Support for older HRD versions has been removed to simplify the code and allow more efficient operation. ? Since its inception 14 years ago, ?the Lookup program has evolved so much that doing callsign lookups is now just a small part of the whole picture, therefore it seemed that the name ¡°Lookup¡± was somewhat misleading. Master Keys retains all of the features of Lookup and operation is the same. And it is still compatible with N3FJP, SKCC and NAQCC logging programs. Upon installation of Master Keys, the original configuration file will be copied into a new one and the old C:\W4ELP\Hotkeys folder will be automatically deleted. Master Keys has actually been ready for over a year. I was holdng off releasing it so that I could make any changes necessary for HRD V6.9. But since HRD v6.9 keeps being delayed, I¡¯m going ahead. ? If you're using the W4ELP Lookup program with HRD v6.8, please upgrade to Master Keys. ? The original W4ELP Lookup program will remain available on this site for a short time before being deleted. If you have HRD v5.X, I would encourage you to upgrade to the current Ham Radio Deluxe version. If you prefer to stay with HRD 5.X and are using the Lookup program, it will continue to work as it does now, but no further development of W4ELP Lookup is planned. All future development effort will be toward W4ELP¡¯s Master Keys. NOTE: Some virus or malware programs may flag Master Keys as a threat. IT DOES NOT CONTAIN A VIRUS. You may need to set an exception for Master Keys.exe. ? Please report any bugs, problems or questions. 73, Ed - W4ELP |

That's what these groups are for, to get help. Sometimes that just means stating
the obvious, sometimes just helping us think a problem through, etc. Donald KX8K On Sat, 29 Mar 2025 17:27:50 -0700, "Michael Kramer via groups.io" <n5xth@...> wrote: Sorry to have been a pain. ---------------------------------------------------- Some ham radio groups you may be interested in: /g/ICOM /g/Ham-Antennas /g/HamRadioHelp /g/Baofeng /g/CHIRP |

Re: Move to Windows 11
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThanks for the update Michael. I don¡¯t think your computer¡¯s speed is the problem. ?Nor would it be the USB cable, as long as everything else is working. I¡¯ve been testing everything I can think of but so far can¡¯t get it to do what yours is doing. Did you try running Lookup ¡°As Administrator¡±? That SHOULDN¡¯t make a difference, but might provide a clue. Another thing to try ¨C With Lookup running, put a callsign into DM780 and let it populate the SKCC Logger but instead of telling DM780 to log it, click anywhere in the SKCC Logger window then send ALT-S on the keyboard and make sure it¡¯s logged in SKCC. ? ? Re: Move to Windows 11
Michael-
I have a theory. Since the SKCC Add Log Entry is getting populated with data ok, then when you give the Log command, it clears but doesn't log the QSO in the SKCC log, I suspect the Add Log Entry is receiving a "Clear" command from somewhere. That could be {Escape} or Alt-C or Alt-W.? That's the only way I can think of where the SKCC ALE would clear without logging the QSO.
?
Lookup sends Alt-S to the SKCC logger to log the QSO.
?
Is this a new, extremely fast computer? Perhaps there's a timing issue I haven't seen before. I think Lookup sends a CLEAR command to the SKCC Logger after a QSO is logged. Or is there any other program running that has an Alt-S shortcut key, where the ALT-S keystroke might get "trapped" and not sent on for other programs??

Don¡¯t forget to turn it back on, though! Some anti-malware has a convenient temporary turn-off switch that disables the program for 5 minutes or maybe longer, then automatically turns it back on for you. What I use now doesn't, but since I have a rare lifetime license for my PC (and another license for one other PC), I use it. But I think Avast or AVG had the time-out feature. Be aware that when you buy a lifetime license, that may only be for the lifetime of the company until they sell out. Or go out of existence. That happened to me with one AV product, and a good one, too, that sold out to Kaspersky. The buyer didn't choose to honor the lifetime licence but gave another year or two extension to the license. Another company just went belly up. But the Malwarebytes lifetime has been a good investment. I should have bought more licenses at the time. They don't offer them anymore. Re: Move to Windows 11
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHad the previous message box been cleared, waiting for an OK? There¡¯s nothing special about my call that would cause it to not populate. Or maybe it was missing the time or other key piece of data. Michael, I¡¯m sorry I don¡¯t have a solution for you. I¡¯ll go through the code this evening and see if I can find any clue. Re: Move to Windows 11
Michael,
Thanks for the screen shot. It looks ok. I'm curious about the "Read VFO" button. Are you using a virtual com port so that both SKCC Logger and HRD can read the VFO? Or are you running DM780 without HRD Rig Control? I thught that might be a problem but I just tried it and it still works.?
I've tried everything I can think of to make it fail to log and it works every time.
?
One more thing I'd like to check - With Lookup running, put a callsign into the SKCC Logger so that the "Log It" button is "lit up". Then click anywhere in the SKCC ALE window. Then put the mouse curcor over the "Log It" button and do a CTL-ALT-Left Click. That should open a small message box like this:
?
Make sure that the button number is 19.
I can't think of anything you're doing or any setting that might cause this, and I can't think of anything in Windows that would either.

Ed - W4ELP

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýOK. Can you do a screen shot or snip of the SKCC Add Log Entry window with a QSO filled in by DM780, before it¡¯s saved to the log file? You can email it direct to me at W4ELP.Ed@.... ? ? From: [email protected]
