ARRL approves new HF band plan pending FCC approval...
The FCC approval for those not following Technician-Novice HF enhancement proposals.. This will go in effect IF the FCC approves RM-11755... Most noteable is: TECHNICIAN privileges on 80,40,15 meters including VOICE, CW and DATA such as WSPR and FT8, JT8CALL. NOVICE privileges on 80,40,15 meters including CW and DATA such as WSPR and FT8, JT8CALL. http://www.arrl.org/files/file/ODV/Second%20Board%20Meeting%20July%202020/Doc%2025A%20Band%20Plan%20Final-1b.pdf RM-11766 pushed by the ARRL, virtually destroys their ARRL 1965 push for incentive licensing.

Joe, I have taken the liberty to send your message along to the rest of the club, as I alone do not make this possible. Regarding installation of an antenna on your truck. I am great a making holes. I once waited till I had 7 miles on my truck then drilled the hole in the middle of the roof for the antenna. I do have the hole punch for NMO mounts. We can talk via email, as there are many options can be had and likewise price. Congratulations on returning to the hobby. Larry W8LM "You see, wire telegraph is a kind of a very, very long cat. You pull his tail in New York and his head is meowing in Los Angeles. Do you understand this? And radio operates exactly the same way: You send signals here, they receive them there. NO CODE is spelt KNOW CODE
I received this email from a "back east" ham club member. It might spur a bit of interest. Like Pete, I started in 1966 as WN8TBV, in Michigan. He has 10 years on me. It is surprising just how many hams run CW only and especially overseas run QRP with less than $150 invested in their entire station.-de W8LM From July 1-7 I was one of the ops signing K2D representing Connecticut in the annual 13 colonies event. After the dust settled, I had worked more than 2300 CW contacts and was exposed to an incredible breadth of CW skills. It was clear to me that while there are a lot of guys and gals operating CW, there are a good number who could improve their skills. To that end, I asked one of our members who is a skilled coder if they could write a script to extract email addresses from QRZ given the call. Out of the 2300 contacts, we got a list of 1600+ email addresses. I then created an account with one of the broadcast emailers and sent out this: I'm Pete, W1RM and you worked me on CW as K2D in the recent 13 Colonies event. Thanks for the QSO. During the 2,000+ QSOs I made, I observed a wide range of CW skills. For those of you who would like to improve your CW proficiency, both sending and receiving, I recommend you look at enrolling in the CW Academy (CWA), sponsored by CWops. CWA is open to any and all and is a service provided by members of CWops at absolutely no charge or obligation other than a desire to learn and improve your CW receiving and sending. CWA has beginner-to-25 wpm classes that are run classroom style online. Check it out at https://cwops.org/cw-academy/cw-academy-options. If you are a proficient CW operator, please pass this email on to anyone you know who wants to learn or get better with CW. By way of background, I've been a CW operator since 1956 when I started as KN2UTV in New York. I am a founding member of CWops (my number is 8) and its first president. CW forever! 73, Pete, W1RM CWops Past President

If you are the winner and already have a GD77, if you don't need one, please have the courtesy to pass the win on to someone else and ask that another number be drawn. We will continue drawing until we have a winner. Once chosen, the winner will need to provide their name and address to Chris Smart, VE3RWJ, so it can be forwarded along to someone at Radioddity and the radio can be shipped to them. W8LM Note- GD77 is a DMR/analog radio. witha 2.8" color display. The demand for this radio has increased with hams re-writing the firmware, so the radio speaks and can be operated by sightless amateurs. This makes it especially desirable as you do not have to look at the display especially when driving.

Raspberry Pi (RPI) and Ham radio
4
Many do not know that I was into low cost computers and ham radio. In the1980's I developed a Morse code send receive program for the COMMODORE VIC-20 and sold it worldwide in 73 magazine, as Peripheral Products. Worked very well and even received a letter from a coast guard station in Florida they were using it on military frequencies. Even had an offer to license it in Europe.. I think for everyone I sold, 5 were copied. Anyhow fast forward to the last 5 years and the RASPBERRY PI (RPI) series of computers from England. A week ago they introduced a new more powerful one with 8GM of RAM memory. Got an email from NEWARK -USA (https://www.newark.com) this morning. #1 the new 8Gb RPI 4 is $75 #2 shipping 2 lb. or less is flat $7.95 #3. 4,614 more will be available on 7/16/20 #4..They are no longer optioning a 1Gb RPI4. (Adafruit has them) #5. A 2Gb RPI4 is $35 (price drop) 4GB RPI4 $55 As a side note, I was at Micro Center (KC) while out of town Saturday and they had new in box widescreen HDMI monitors for $69. I also picked up a few RPI3B's for $29 for ham radio work and a PI ZERO W for $10. The 400 mile R/T was worth it as I had other business nearby. Ham operators use RPI's for many many things. I use RPI2's, 3's and 3+'s for ALLSTAR and MMDVM (ways to connect Ham radio's to the internet) as well as weak signal decoding for moon bounce. If you are interested in Raspberry Pi's, Linux and Ham radio we can get together perhaps even get a group going like Harold did..Both the W?VFW repeaters are running on Raspberry Pi 2s. There are over 3 million RPI's in use today.. email me if interested. am_fm_radio (at) yahoo.com

Fw: (from NERDS) QSO Today Virtual Ham Expo this Summer
NERDS - New England Radio Discussion Society Press Release LOS ANGELES - QSO Today host Eric Guth, 4Z1UG, announced that the first QSO Today Virtual Ham Expo will commence on August 8th and 9th, 2020, over a period of 48 hours. This virtual Expo is built on a live virtual reality platform commonly used by Fortune 500 companies and major universities. Attendance is free, and anyone can attend from their home or office. Eric and his team, including George Zafiropoulos, KJ6VU, have assembled 50+ of the best ham radio mentors in multiple tracks to address this conference from the virtual Expo’s auditorium. Icom has taken the lead as the Expo’s Platinum Sponsor, along with Gold Sponsors RT Systems, FlexRadio, RFinder, DX Engineering, Elecraft, and GigaParts. At the Expo, amateur radio operators will be able to: · Learn from a packed line-up of renowned ham radio speakers such as Ward Silver, N0AX, on Grounding and Bonding; Glen Johnson, W0GJ, on DXpeditions, and John Portune, W6NBC, on building slot antennas for HOA. · See demos of the latest ham radio equipment from the world’s top equipment companies. Attendees can easily ask questions and engage with Exhibitors through video, audio, or chat. · Share ideas and network with their fellow ham radio operators at any time throughout the Expo. This platform simulates a full convention experience with an exhibit hall and exhibit booths staffed by live attendants, speaker auditorium, lobby, and lounges. “I was planning on my own trip to Dayton this year when I heard of its cancellation, followed by Friedrichschaffen, and now Huntsville. With the encouragement of my listeners and guests of the QSO Today Podcast, I spent months looking at alternatives before deciding on a platform to create this virtual event to share with the amateur radio community. Our virtual Expo also means that the hundreds of thousands of ham radio operators that have never to a ‘physical” event can now also participate. Admission is free, and door prizes will be posted to the event’s website as they are added. Since the Expo is completely funded by exhibitor booth sales, I’m encouraged by the great response from Icom and other sponsors” said Eric, 4Z1UG. The QSO Today Virtual Ham Expo will commence on Saturday August 8th, run for 48 hours as a live event, then will be available as an on-demand event for another 30 days. “How many conventions have I gone to, especially large ones, where I had no time to visit all of the exhibitor booths? Now I can attend every lecture, and engage as many exhibitors as I want since everything is available for 30 days after the Expo” said Eric, 4Z1UG. June VHF contest- This weekend plus Field Days info regarding logging.
from :http://www.arrl.org/contests/update/?issue=2020-06-10 This upcoming weekend is the ARRL June VHF Contest. The magic band has been hopping as of late. Don't get stuck only on FTx modes -- give CW and SSB a try if the band is open for potential higher rates. The ARRL Field Day operating event is the June 27 weekend and for 2020 there are some rule waivers. Important changes include that "D" stations can work other "D" stations for points, and that individual stations using their individual call signs submit their scores separately; entries using the same club name (make sure everyone agrees on the same exact spelling) will be aggregated under that club's name in the results. To help address questions that might come up with the rules waiver, ARRL has published an additional FAQ for this year's Field Day event. Scott, N3FJP, reminds that users of N3FJP's Field Day Log should upgrade to version 6.3 in preparation for the 2020 rule changes. Scott has published a FAQ on using his popular software for Field Day, including how to operate to adapt to the 2020 rule waivers.

June 27 and 28, 2020 - FIELD DAY!
Greetings to everyone – Field Day is June 27th and 28th of this month, so, since it’s just 3 weeks away, it’s time to start planning the annual event as best we can. You are all aware how the coronavirus has really put a kink in all plans and preparations of activities this year. I realize some of you may not want to participate in any type of social gathering at this time. Some of you may want to come for a short time to say high and grab a bite to eat. And, some may want to hang out for a while and make Field Day contacts. Speaking for the club, I want to say whatever you decide to do on Field Day this year is your decision and it will be received with understanding and respect. We don’t expect everyone to be interested in making Field Day contacts. Please feel free to come and observe and/or just visit. In the W0VFW monthly meeting held on May 26th, it was decided to have Field Day at my house this year. I have enough yard area to spread radio stations around the yard under shade trees. If it is extremely hot or rains, we can spread out in either the basement or the shop. Field Day Location: Patrick Schneweis / KC0ZRY 13218 Southwest Blvd Clearwater, KS This is how I tell individuals to get to my house if they are coming from Wichita - From the Hwy 235 and Hwy 42 Interchange, go southwest on Southwest Blvd (Hwy 42) past Cessna and Schulte. Continue on through the MacArthur and Hwy 42 intersection stop light. Continue heading southwest and go almost one 1 mile past 119th street west. There is an F&F Satellite Sales sign along the right-hand (north) side of the road. Be ready to turn into the first driveway a short distance after passing the sign. You will see the antenna tower and a gray trim house and a cement block building next to the house. If you would like to operate your own equipment and use one of the antennas available, here is some helpful information: The available antennas are – 40 meter vertical Hustler 6BTV trapped vertical A screwdriver antenna with ground radials – if I can get it repaired before Field Day Other items to consider bringing other than the basic station equipment – Table and chair Power supply or generator Extension cords Coaxial barrel connectors and Coaxial Cable – whatever length you have available Laptop – The W0VFW logging database will be on the network and users will be connected via Wi-Fi. If you want to operate under your own call sign, you will need to provide your own logging system. Bring ropes, pulleys, insulators and any antenna you would like to use. We will figure out how to get it up. Equipment/Supplies I have available – Icom 718 and 706Mk2G - Both available to set up stations in the yard. Kenwood TS-480HX - It will stay in the ham shack. Dipole antenna will stay attached to the Kenwood. Extension cords Small generator Three 12-volt automotive batteries Antenna support poles, ropes, stakes, pulleys, insulators …etc. An empty 25 ft fold-over pole will be erected. We will decide its best use Saturday morning. Equipment/Supplies I don’t have but we will probably need – Band-pass filters to help eliminate intrastation interference. Two HF antenna tuners. Coaxial patch cables The current plan is to operate on a couple bands if possible. If the intrastation interference is an issue for multi-band operation, we will figure out what to do. Food and drinks provided – Smoked ribs Pulled pork Buns BBQ sauce Bottled water and tea Cups, Paper plates and plastic ware Please bring a side dish or dessert, and soft drinks or beer of your choice. Bring anything you would like to share or cook on site. A gas grill and a gas infrared oven will be available Agenda for Field Day – June 27, 2020 - Arrive around 9:00 to help set up antennas. Lunch at 12 noon. Bring your own sandwiches or whatever you want to share. Start working Field Day at 1:00 PM Evening meal at 6:30 PM. Ribs, pulled pork sandwiches with various side dishes and desserts. June 28, 2020 – No set agenda - will play it as it goes. Please help clean up when we decide to shut down the event. Field Day activity ends Sunday, 1:00 PM
