Locked Meeting Improvement Suggestion

Greetings Ham Family

Last night's meeting felt pretty business heavy and it felt to me like folks didn't really enjoy it. This isn't the first meeting where folks felt a bit frustrated with an all business type meeting. And rather than complain I would like to offer a solution. Of course I can't fix this problem on my own and so I am writing this to get your input.

What if all major discussions and decisions were made by the Board? Then the monthly meeting could host a demonstration or perhaps a discussion like what we do on a net. We would need to line up demonstrators or guest speakers, however, then meetings with members would be less business and more hobby oriented. Your thoughts? How could we write up a bylaws fix to do this? Do you have other such suggestions in order to improve the monthly meeting? Let's work on this here as a team and make VFWARC great again. We can do this. Please share your thoughts.

Blessings

Pat, KE0TGA

PS. I really feel like if we want more regular attendance by members we need to make meetings interesting, informative, and fun. Please help make this happen. Your opinions matter.

Note: Thus monthly meeting agenda would look something like this.
1. Open meeting
2. Pledge
3. Role call of officers
4. New members?
5. Reading of Board meeting minutes or just read last month's meeting minutes.
5. Treasurer's report
6. Announcements based upon what the board decided we would do.
7. Demonstration or talk
8. New Business, if something absolutely needs group attention
9. Good of the order
10. Close

I am sorry I didn't make the meeting.. Recovering from Pneunomia and was warned that breathing toxins can scar my lungs... I am not the 1st person to complain about the smoke at VFW3115.... I had all ready made plans when Patricia called me and said the meeting would be held in the patio.

I was president of the Port City Amateur Radio Club in New Hampshire during 2005... I was President 2014-2015 two terms and we had a number of activities. Other clubs I am in contact with have many activities both during meetings and at other times.

There are all kinds of suggestions out there to have some sort of "event" other than a dry business meeting.

I could make suggestions but I'm instead going to listen to others.. All though I'm thinking some sort of kit group buy...

Past 2 weeks I bought a pair of the new Baofeng AR-5RM triband HT's.. paid $53 for the pair.. Now before you click on the next message,

Let me tell you I am quite impressed with theses.. and maybe this is something worth a group participation....
#1 8 watts then medium and low power
#2. they cover 2 meters plus 222mhz plus 440.
#3 they go beyond the ham band
#4 then receive AM aircraft band
#5 they have 999 channel memory..
#6. come with a standup charger and also a USB-C port on the back of the battery for charging..
Reviews are quite good...

What I'm thinking is even just getting a group of us together to set up a common file of Wichita area frequencies- GMRS, Airport and other such would be fun.. then everyone can get the same programming as 999 channels is a bit of programming..
The 999 channels are not in banks or groups, but We could start with 000 for 2 meter ham, 100 for 440 ham, 200 for 222 ham, 300 for GMRS-FRS, 400 for Aircraft, 500 for commercial, 600 for Railroad, could even do 700 Kansas city, 800 Tulsa, 900 Oklahoma city..

If the group did a buy of those HT's - as mine came with 146/440 antenna but not a 220 antenna we could even design and build a triband antenna for home use..as a follow up project..

Another project - I'd even be interested in is a crystal radio and Gaylen has experience with that.. There are a number of inexpensive kits we could look into as well..

Just suggestions..

Greetings Ham Family

Well thank you Larry for these great suggestions. I for one appreciate good group activities and want to see this club thrive. Since you didn't make it we met inside. We missed you brother.

Friends if this is going to work we all need to pull together. All suggestions are welcome. I started this thread in order to facilitate improvement in our club. Let's make it worth attending our gatherings.

Blessings

I would be more than happy to conduct a presentation on crystal radios.
